Introduction

Daniel and my diaries didn't work for supper whilst he was up from Melbourne so he popped over to say hi and we had a look at a few vintages of Lunch Bags whilst catching up. Bracket one was the 2013, Bracket two the 04 and 14, Bracket three the 10 & 16

Flight 1 - Lightweight (1 Note)

  • 2013 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

From Coravin. Cool wet red over black fruits show currants and brambles, earthy and savoury notes here as well. Juicy, savoury, earthy, brambly fruit and a little red berry underpin, tannins are woody but don't impart oaky flavours, a little Indian spice joining on the finish. Pleasant…charming in fact, considering the vintage.

Flight 2 - Classic (2 Notes)

  • 2014 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

From Coravin. Riper than the 2013 (obviously), showing blackcurrant, sweet spice, a little toasted oak, touch of brambles, plums in support. Juicy, fleshy black fruit and polished oak integrated, long, a little minty note here as well. Time but yum.

  • 2004 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

From Coravin. Brambly, leathery, a little fruit tea and red liquorice, cigar box. Juicy, fleshy, very slightly sour brambly fruit, plentiful grippy and woody tannins are aa little coarse, tertiary notes joins on the finish. Hmm, not sure where this is going. It's nice but the tannins are a little bit on the big side for the flavours.

Flight 3 - Vintage(s) of the Century (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

From Coravin. Cassis, plum, blackcurrant, sweet spice, controlled alcohol prickle, tiny touch of mint, polished oak, touch of meaty underpin. Medium plus intensity acidity, woody tannins but fruit is king here; persists very long indeed, still quite primary. Woof.

  • 2016 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

From Coravin. Sweet spice, almost a touch of carbo crush; plummy, cherry, blackcurrant. Juicy, fleshy, plenty of chewy drying tannins are woody, fruit as per the nose, beautifully balanced, ridiculously long. Lovely.
