Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2019 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée Roussanne Vieilles Vignes 95 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Definitely a wine we prefer youngish and it felt on point at this age. We would suggest one decants as we did Leve a glass or too for the end of the dinner and the wine for sure developed more. We often do serve this with cheese as this is beyond the usual dry whites.
Intense and dense with a proper old vine feel, layered and with an intensity of flavour, concentrated and focussed. Soft lemon, candied lemon almost, rich, floral and tropical finish with a soft waxy edge. An impressive 94-95 wine.

  • 2009 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Clos St. Denis 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru

Frankly we expected so much more especially given the terroir and vintage. The wine felt muted, closed and giving very little and in a way a bit dull. Hopefully with time this will develop but for now not really much more to talk about. 89-90

  • 1990 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 97 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

A magical wine and an arbitrage of a wine vs price ;and still so “young”.
We recently had the the joy of trying the beautiful 1990 Margaux ( Papies 99) and that too had this youthfulness and we feel this is a result of the austerity of their terroirs at a young age vs the more juicy St Julian’s which now feel like they are getting on the old side from this glorious vintage.
This is a spectacular bottle and frankly we should have decanted longer as the wine is indeed youthful still, bright fruit, still just turning secondary and a joy. This is the second bottle we try in the last 3 months from different batches ( Papies 98) and indeed one of those great experiences that remind us why we love the classical clarets so much. 97-98 and buy on sight wine.
