Knew what this was from the bottle shape and since I just had it last week, but thought it was '08. Surprised that everyone else thought this was a young grower - felt this was a quintessential house with reductive, toasty notes and a broad sweetness.
Brought for a friend. Didn't transcend the region unlike the Coteau de Vernons that I've had; a more typical northern Rhone white with floral, honeysuckle notes. Still very youthful and fresh that most pegged it to be from around 2016.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Brought for a friend. No brett, clean and lifted nose. Cloudy in appearance, resolved and tertiary on the palate with some remnants of sweet fruit. Not sure if this was advanced or just past peak.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Clearly a traditional CDP with very good restraint, guessed it to be another Pegau. Silky and elegant, some maraschino cherries. Superb backbone from the fine vintage. Excellent.
So quintessentially Côte-Rôtie that a few of us nailed the region. Similar to the previous experience with this bottle, smoky but elegant dark red fruit. Very balanced and complete with the leather of northern rhone and silkiness from a good producer. Drinking at peak.
Everyone guessed CDP for this. Think this was a crowd favourite with an attractive, lifted nose in the new-school Grenache mould. Some unintegrated oak with vanilla notes on the nose. Fruit was too candied in an artificial sense for me so wasn't a fan, but I was in the minority.
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert
Guessed 10 year old Bandol. Surprisingly clean and international in style for this wine with sweet black fruit, but as a result was also a little anonymous.
My contribution. Everyone guessed northern Rhone for this, but not sure if I understood why. Didn’t have any Loire greenness despite the weaker vintage, but was built more like a traditional Bordeaux from a more classic vintage with some leafy herbal notes. Pleasurable and drinking at peak now.
My contribution. Everyone guessed northern Rhone for this as well which I could understand better. More structured with dense purple fruit compared to the Joguet alongside, still very youthful as most guessed early ‘10s for the vintage. Good Bandol reds can take some time to come around.
Clearly a Riesling with petroleum notes on the nose. Waxy, nutty texture but not too heavy or plodding. Excellent length and balance. One of my favourite Alsatian wines.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Even split between Puligny and Meursault among others but thought this was neither so guessed ‘17 Chassagne. Much better than the last time I tried this, definitely wasn’t in new-world here. Even though the fruit still felt fat, at least it wasn't too tropical.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Guessed 2015 Gevrey from a not very good maker, agreed with another taster who said that he would peg this as a new-world if completely blind. Over-ripe and rustic red fruit that came across as disjointed.
Guessed early '90s left-bank like Gruaud Larose. Old-school claret with good ripeness of fruit despite a little pyrazine on the nose. Feels like it's at its plateau now.

Round with breadth and latitude. Hedonistic and pleasurable as usual.

2006 André Robert Champagne Grand Cru Collection d'Auteur Blanc de Blancs 88 Points
France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Rather vinous and oxidative compared to the Piper alongside. Had green apple fruit that was a little too austere and thin for me.

France, Jura, Arbois
Brought for a friend. Slightly natty and not as Burgundian as my previous bottle, but still had the serious mid-palate weight and finish.

Quite bretty on the nose, reminded me of a Baudry. Dark, chocholatey fruit. Compact, dense structure. Youthful and tannins are still astringent.
