Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Garnet, perhaps slightly browning on rim. Surprisingly developed. Not the cleanest nose. Really grippy tannins. A bit simple; struggling with much beyond primary fruit/cherries. Perhaps suggests a long life ahead? Or the opposite!
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Super youthful looking; healthy ruby. Nose is almost burgundian; sweet red and perfumed fruits (cranberries?). Really really good. Tannins are ~medium and super supple. The purity of the fruit is what stands out here.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark ruby. Not a lot of fruit on the nose; tar/rubber. Medium tannins and lower acidity than a lot of the other 2013s. Slightly muted on palate. Perfectly good, just a bit dull?
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Mid-ruby, tending towards garnet. More muted on nose, with some vanilla/oak-y notes. Super supple; no hard edges at all despite a real core of tannins.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Darkish ruby. Super generous nose; really juicy, some vanilla and dried flowers. Less acidic than some other 2013s. Chalky tannins but these are smoothed out by the oak influence. Outstanding red and black fruits; tastes quite ripe. All in brilliant balance. Pretty primary at this stage! I'd be v pleased to have a lot of this.

Ruby/Garnet. Classic and very pronounced cherry, and a little balsamic-y on the nose. Little less generous on the palate though. I'd hold off opening another bottle of this for a while if I had any.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Darker ruby/garnet than many other 2013s tried. Tar/liquorice/garrigue on the nose; not a tonne of fruit. Notably high acidity, with pretty fine, dusty tannins. Pretty pronounced, pure cherries on the palate, unlike the nose. Just a little bit of tar too.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Crikey! Medium/dark ruby. Odd nose; dark fruits and almost something carbonic (though of course none of that went on). I really wouldn't have guessed that this was a Brunello if given it blind. Almost reminiscent of a pretty old and grand LB bordeaux from a cool year: there's so much oak and sweetness, and a much darker fruit profile than I associate with sangiovese. It's good through despite it's atypicality - I suspect I'd rate it higher if I was given this blind.
