Decanted only a short time (1 hr.). Loads of sweet red fruits (cherries, raspberries, strawberries), vanilla, and milk chocolate. Soft tannins and punchy acidity. Great by itself, but I'm guessing great with food, too (braised lamb shanks over pasta, later).

Completely ready to drink (although we did give it a decant anyway), and with the insistent, grippy acidity of the vintage attractively prominent. Strawberry and cherry fruit with a plummy, leathery undertone, impactful and energetic on the velvety midpalate and a very dry (not drying) finish. Probably even better with some food, but most enjoyable on its own.

2013 Brunello 'ten years on' masterclass at 67 pall mall (67PM): Garnet, perhaps slightly browning on rim. Surprisingly developed. Not the cleanest nose. Really grippy tannins. A bit simple; struggling with much beyond primary fruit/cherries. Perhaps suggests a long life ahead? Or the opposite!

Dark ruby with brown-ish rim. Red cherries, raspberry, herbs, spices, pepper, Marcipan. Earth, leather, forest floor. Medium+ body, medium tannins, high minus acidity. 10 years of age when drinking. Still plenty of fruit, but not sure if it will benefit from more time in bottle. Great wine, but not worth the price for my taste (~47€). If you are in to brunello, it is probably a fair price for a wine with some age.

aging red color, mature nose with plums, cherry and spice, palate of cuddly ripe fruit, cherries, a hint of wild strawberry, savory tea leaves, relaxed, it seems a bit simple at first but it really grows on you as the subtle and magnificent harmony of its elements become evident, forest notes with time, most attractive.

One off ($42) from big box wine store #2 5 years ago. Light to medium on the nose and palate with red and black cherries, red currants, plums, tomato leaf, earth, smoke, tobacco, tomato and a bit of mixed spice. Medium garnet, medium bodied, medium to thick legs. Robust acidity off the pour which integrated quickly, medium+ tannins, no heat. VG+ intensity of the pour, VG persistence and complexity. The first Argiano I’ve purchased, although I’ve had this and the Solengo at numerous tastings. This came out of the bottle surprisingly good to go, at least for my tastes, with impressively energetic lift, matched by vibrant tannins and fruit. After about half an hour of air in the glass, this fully integrated, gaining a bit of elegance, but losing some of its freshness. This trend, alas, picked up steam on the second night, with all elements of the wine flattening out and losing definition. Probably a 93+ for me on opening, 92-ish thereafter on the first night, scraping 90 on night 2. Since this vintage has been marked by fairly intense structure and has been slow to gain accessibility, I was surprised at the quick falloff, and I’d counsel others to drink this sooner than later with minimal to no prior aeration. At its best, this was what I’d call a mid-spectrum BdM, a nice mix of fruit, structure and secondary notes, with enough richness to work well on its own, but to perhaps be slightly better as a complement to mixed grill. A bit hard to score because of drop off, but about 91-92 seems about right.

Paling rim with a strong ruby core, translucent and light. Delicate nose, hinting of flowers 🌸 with a touch of darker fruits. Fresh with a savoury edge the palate is smooth with really subtle grippyness to give a nice bite, and a solid medium finish. Nicely made wine. Classy probably sums this up. Drinking nicely, yet can keep too.

Shy nose and not much fruit upfront. The mouth has dry tannins. The flavors come alive after swallowing: juicy red plum and strong blood orange with a little fennel. The finish is long and makes me think the wine will get better with time.

In reviewing the tasting notes of my colleagues, they seem to be all over the place. Drunk over three days, I'm rating this wine on the lower end of the scale. Very dark color for a Brunello, yes it has a large frame with serious structure. But despite a decant, even the second day the fruit struggles to show through. Mostly dried cherries, earth, dried floral and spices and chewy tannins. Maybe this wine is simply not ready. This is my frustration with the three B's. They seem to take forever. Trying again in two years. And forgetting the '15's that I have.

Solidly Very Good+, but disappointing for a BdM. No notes - drank a couple of days prior to making this TN. Nice dark cherry, some dusty earth, but a bit heavy. Again, a really good wine, but not enough complexity or nuance to make it something I'd call truly excellent.
It did show better with some air. Paired really nicely with an eggplant-based vegetarian (inc. egg & pecorino) meatball dish with pasta.
For the other bottle, I think I'll try a decant for several hours and see how it goes.

Amazing Brunello. Cherry and strawberry on the nose. Marcipan ? Menthol taste that stays for a long time. Oaky. The Sangiovese has blended beautiful withe the barrels. Still lots of tannins. Did not decant at all, but still a fantastic glass straight from the bottle. Is great now and in the next 7-8 years (2028).

2/6. Slightly pale in appearance. Cherry menthol, mint, tobacco and spice on the nose. Fruity on the palate, a little tart, with a touch of spice. This continues to be incredibly smooth in texture and put on weight as time went by, with good tannic grip on the back end. Lovely balance, medium finish. This has lots of time ahead of it if you can keep your hands off it. Drunk with chicken and bacon pie and then by itself. Delicious.

Great nose, medium body great finish. Delightful wine with good QPR. Added by edit. I should note that this rating is after 2 hours and based on the last glass of a PNP. As to be expected, the wine improved with air, the fruit became brighter and the whole package knitted together.

Cherry menthol, mint and spice on the nose. Lovely fruity palate with a touch of spice. Incredibly smooth texture followed by some serious puckering from the tannins. Great balance with a medium finish. This was our first bottle from a six pack and we were unsure if it would be too early to try but it wasn't. It will certainly develop over the next decade but is fantastic drinking now. Drunk with spaghetti Bolognese on day one and lasagne on day two.

1585 the estate was built. Over the last five years they've come back to a very traditional style - large cask, longer fermentation. And now a single vineyard. And Tachis convinced them to plant international varieties a while ago on a particular soil type. But two different winemaking teams.
Dark cherry fruit on the nose in a classic Sangiovese way. Leaner and more elegant than I remember it being, which I guess is the whole idea of the new wine making team.

Starting to brick, color wise. Plump cherry aromas, with leather and earth. SW quadrant of Montalcino, higher impact of climate. Warmer temps. Light on its feet. Aged in large Slovenian oak casks - longer maceration. Est 1855. Easy drinking at this time, and this was just opened. Prettier than I remember their wines being.

Tuscan Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Typical aging: "The 1st year is spent in FR oak barriques & tonneaux with different capacities, to strengthen the innate structure of the wine, while the 2nd is spent in larger Slavonian oak barrels which allow the wine to achieve balance. After completing the maturing process in wood, the wine is transferred into concrete tanks." 9,166 cs made in 2013
N: Closed; Cherries, some notes of oranges; Intensity lurking?
P: Med body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, almost swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which only slightly resolves by the LONG, very, VERY slightly puckerish finish with an enticing, burgeoning swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '22, I'd imagine, then making its 15th. 14% ABV; My EXC/EXC+. 96 pts Suckling, 93 ea WA, WS, & WE @ $65, 90 Decanter (Morris), 88 Vinous (D'Agata), and 16/20 Jancis Robinson (Speller). [This vendor's $45.95 now puts it in the top 20% of wine-searcher's listings.]
Note: As I had on 11/3/2018, today I also found this more structured (& more classical) than I had on 8/4/2018.

Deep, dark garnet in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, leather, some spices, dried herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries & plums with spices, dried herbs, some minerals & a touch of toasted oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but needs additional aging to fully resolve and develop.

A dusty, savoury, tobacco nose with plums - fresh and dried - and hints of field mushroom. Earthy and pleasantly lean on palate. Nice acidity. Red currant, some plum and a touch of raspberry, leather and cigar. Also funky, slightly feral fallen leaves and fruit, with a touch of sous bois. That's the Sangiovese, not any secondary development or oxidation. It paired well with my lamb dish. Ideally, I would guess, it could use another 2-3+ years in the cellar.

Good>Good+ (today), with a fair likelihood for improvement; tasted twice. Impressive/exotic/bright perfumes on the nose; soil, sap, cherry, raspberry, avg+ complexity. Med>Med+ body, with avg>vg length. At the moment, there's a small hole in the mid-palate, but I suspect that's a fault of youth, and should fill in with more bottle rest. 14,0% abv., should drink for a decade or more. recommended, but not something I would look to add to my own cellar.

Note from 9/2019: "Medium red color. Great nose - savory, orange peel, sweet cherry & rose petals. On palate, sweet & sour cherry, herbs (rosemary/lavender) and touch of minerality. Palate was less developed than the nose. Full body, medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins with a very long finish. 92+ today but should move up a point or two with a few more years of age. "

Dark cherry fruit on the nose in a classic Sangiovese way. Leaner and more elegant than I remember it being, which I guess is the whole idea of the new wine making team.

Very light red with signs of maturation. Coconut, butter and light floral red fruit. Seems a bit mature for a 2013. Dry tannic finish.
This may put on a bit of weight and seem more balanced someday but my guess is the delicate fruit will never overcome the oak.
