Popped-and-poured, this seemed moderately mature to start, but seemed to then freshen up. Rich and powerful with a broad array of concentration berry character throughout.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
All red fruit with very savory spice, faint earth, and good+ weight and length. Very enjoyable and well composed right now. Tasted double blind, the profile made me think this to be Vosne 1er from around this period, then the destemmed character led me to correctly identify it as Méo-Camuzet.
Powerful black fruit with a richness and full mouth feel of textures. Perhaps mature for its age, but that is the 2007 vintage, and the age has brought forth so many glorious Leroy nuanced elements. Tasted double blind, I did not very well, thinking it Gevrey grand Cru base don its meatiness (not a terrible assessment for Pommard) and Grand Cru based on density (not a terrible assessment for Leroy).
From magnum. Amazingly fresh, even with cork soaked through. So much black fruit with braised meat, layered spice, and mushroom touches. Near perfect balance with very good weight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Mature red cherry and berry aromas and flavors with a touch of the sweetness of many good 1998s. Wonderfully balanced that just manages to show its Grand Cru density, with sneaky good length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
I was shocked at how great this wine performed tonight. Layered and complex with so much red fruit, sweet spice, and elegant textures. I last tasted this wine nearly a decade ago and tonight's bottle gave much more than in 2016. The finest Savigny I can ever recall tasting.
