Flight 1 - Apertif (1 Note)

  • 2000 Ployez-Jacquemart Champagne Liesse d'Harbonville

    France, Champagne

    Tasted blind - tiny bubbles in the flute, beautiful golden color, broad and deep flavor, big fruity nose - tastes of apple, bread, citrus, a little salty. Overall delicious. This is the style I like, as opposed to extra brut or no dosage. I guessed a 2006 big house top cuvee.

Baby Bibb Salad with Blue Cheese and Bacon, Sherry Vinaigrette

  • 2017 Eisele Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Tasted blind - on the nose, strong melon, grassy, almost cat pee at first - definite white Bordeaux vibes. But this wine has tricked me before. For my palate, air helps this, and settles it down, and the food pairing helped as well. Called 2019 Eisele Sauv. Blanc.

  • 2019 Kistler Chardonnay Cuvée Cathleen Kistler Vineyard

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

    Tasted blind - great clarity in the glass, yellow gold in color; some oak, lots of lemon; integrated acidity, good minerality. Delicious and easy to drink. Went well with the seared halibut. Guessed a 2016 Kistler something.

Flight 3 - Third Course (3 Notes)

Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Jumbo Asparagus, and Chive Mashed Potatoes; Mint Demi Sauce

  • 2013 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Tasted blind - great, complex nose of cherry, menthol, anise; decent tannins on the palate, with high acidity, and integrated oak. Host decanted 4-5 hours before dinner. From magnum. Slightly hot, but loads of cherry and rhubarb on the palate. Very good wine - I called a Washington state Cab. - 10+ year old Quilceda.

  • 2012 Odette Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District

    Tasted blind - in my experience, when an Eisele Cab is on the table, it is usually my favorite wine. So this one was my favorite of the tasting, so I thought this was the Eisele. Host decanted 4-5 hours before serving. Amazing medicinal cherry (mostly cherry) nose; deep and dark in the glass; high acid, beautiful red fruit on the palate. Delicious, and ready to go. Served from magnum. Still in a primary phase, but within the drinking window, with a long time to go.

  • 2007 Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (Stelvin Closure)

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

    Tasted blind - thank you CellarTracker for differentiating the wine closure. This one was the screwcap. And compared to the 2012 Odette Reserve and the 2013 Eisele, this one seemed so young. Like not ready. From 750. Host decanted 4-5 hours before serving. It was deep and dark in the glass, and had a very reserved nose. Huge tannins, lots of blue dominant fruit. I would love to compare this one to the cork bottle, and see if the cork has allowed actual development of the wine. I was surprised to hear the age on this one, it just didn't taste like a 16+ year old wine.

Flight 4 - Fourth Course (1 Note)

Creme Brulee in a Crust with Raspberries

  • 2010 Château d'Yquem

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Tasted blind - beautiful gold in the glass, no signs of age; honey, sweet apricot, white stone fruit. Delicious, and paired so well with the creme brulee. Called a 2005-2010 d'Yquem.
