Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2021 Domaine A.-F. Gros Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

    (1/2/2024)

The nose is gorgeous here. Wisps of vosnee spice and rustic notes, fresh fruit coming through.

Medium to medium-minus weight. Lingering finish, wild strawberry and hint of raspberry. Vosnee spice basket is second to the fruit here

Really nice longer finish with the fruit holding up among the tannins which did have a bit of drying effect

This will age well, very enjoyable now but some years will do it justice to mellow out the grip of the gripping and chalky tannins

Served out of a Bordeaux glass
    Pale rose / straw color
    Delicious red apple
Lot of tiny delicate bubbles - more like sea foam
    Mineral, chalk oyster notes
At one point lemon zest on the nose

Pinot noir / from ~1.5ha / ~100-400 cases per year (depending on source)

  • 2006 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

    (1/25/2024)

    Tasted blind

Nose: plenty of old world, burgundy rusticness. But had more bright, dense fruit if you focused (I missed it at first)

    This was fantastic.

High alcohol for PN, close to 15% as I recall

  • 2020 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Château 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

    (1/26/2024)

    Delicate soft and fine tannins

Subtle spiciness, this was much more delicate on the palette with delicate darker berries providing the freshness. medium to lighter than expected weight. Less complex finish

One of the more enjoyable and versatile wines I’ve had in a long time. This is exceptional - light and fresh

  • 2004 Château Margaux 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    (2/2/2024)

Excellent. Wonderful velvet texture with nice and supple tannins that are wrapped around rich dark fruits - currant, cassis, blackberry.

Wonderful - with some tertiary notes emerging but still nicely vibrant and enjoyable without the tightness or strength of a young Bordeaux. Tertiary notes were wood like - cedar perhaps.

    This is very well balanced.

79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc.
