Introduction

This was my first foray into Danial del Prado's new gem Porzana which is a Argentinian Steak House. That descriptor does not do it justice as Porzana is so much more. WE had a group of 6 this evening with a mix of BdM, Spain and Champagne (DM, SS, CS, ML, KB, BB). the food was outstanding across the board and we had some wines to match that stature. Can't wait to go back.

  • 1991 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Bosconia 95 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Medium dark red color with subtle bricking to a 1mm clear margin. PNP, drank a glass plus over an 2 hours. It's been almost 2 years sonce last having this. This bottle is a wow, showing great. The nose display a perfume of dried flowers, pencil, wonderful wood spices, dried forest floor, pine needles, and dried dill weed. The palate is classic, medium plus bodied, Burgundian, earth, leather, pencil, pretty red fruits abound, shellac, lacquer, black raspberry syrup, very long and soft. I loved it. It did fade some after an hour showing more dill and weediness. 95+ to 96pts.

Flight 3 (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna del Piano 97 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Vary dark red color. PNP, drank a glass plus over an hour plus. This blew me away tonight. The nose was stunning; intense and explosive aromatics, high toned and off the hook, cassis, balasamic strawberries, menthol, scorched erth, mint, English saddle leather, graphite. The palate is equally impressive with an amazing penetration, layered and so bright; cassis, strawberry, viscous, dried herbs abd garrigue, a mix of red and black fruits, graphite, full bodied and a velveteen texture with plush tannins. Wow, this was thrilling.
