Introduction

Since a few of us were not able to get together at the dinner next week, Brad graceously offered to host a dinner at his place for four of us (BB, CV, Ml, KB). The menu was the splendid chicken and bread salad recipe of Zuni Cafe. Brad, as always, did a marvelous job with the meal. Our wines were such a nice accompaniment as well. Very fun night gentlemen.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • NV Charles Heidsieck Champagne Blanc de Blancs 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over an hour. Charles Heidsieck has been knocking ot out of the park with their NV cuvee's over the last few years. I'm seriously impressed by the definition and clarity, long and supple, toasty, pretty fruit, creamy texture, quite long. Loved it.

  • 2014 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Noirs Côte de Val Vilaine 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over an hour plus. Fresh with bright fruits, pear and cherry, crystalline minerality, lifted and precise, as it takes on weight and more toast shows over time. I like Craig's word of regal, sums it up nicely. 93(+)pts.

  • 2016 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

Medium plus red color. Decanted for about an hour. Drank a glass plus over 90 minutes plus. I found this quite delightful and preferred it to the Corcelette which was also very good. A fun comparison for sure. The Py is has this juicy red berry fruit with strawberry and raspberry saturating the palate with little by of citrus infusion, medium bodied and long with earthy undertones and an interesting almond pastry note on the nose. 93+pts.

  • 2016 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

Medium dark red color. Drank a glass plus over 90 minutes. Darker fruits, a little bitter earth, graphite and dried tobacco, with the palate showing some dried cherry, bitter cherry pit, and scorched earth with a bit more tannin to me. Medium plus bodied. While I thoroughly enjoyed both, I found the Py to be more elegant.
