Introduction

Outstanding event and told a guest bring a different wine and he brought the Chave which proved to be all the first place votes. Great event with all main wine 92 or higher which rarely happens.

Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2013 Cieck Erbaluce di Caluso San Giorgio Spumante Millesimato 90 Points

Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Erbaluce di Caluso

Normally not a fan of sparkling outside of Champagne or California but this was solid. Chalk, lemon, mild spice, minerals and dough. Medium finish and nice acidity.

  • 2014 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 93 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

One of the better Pinots from just Russian River Valley. Cranberry, strawberry, minerals, sour cherry and wafter. Medium plus finish and plenty of life ahead. Outstanding effort. 93 points

  • 2013 Alpasión Old School 94 Points

    Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco

Ok what a great wine and my friends Tom & Bruna visiting this winery this past summer. Funky along with small berries, spice, tobacco, violets, blueberries and coffee beans. Concentrated wine and long finish. Excellent and my 2nd favorite of the night.

  • 2015 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave St. Joseph 95 Points

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph

When the community is way off on this one. I am sure many are influenced by a critic as this wine is not a pop and pour and review. This initially was not great but blossomed. Funk, spices white pepper, cherry, blue currants, coffee beans and stone. Concentrated effort and 5 out of 5 wine of the night votes which almost never happens.

  • 2012 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Excellent showing with cherry, dried herbs, blueberries, oak, minerals, oak and earth. Not a massive Napa Wine but very solid overall.
Day 3: Holding form and for sure not a over the top offering at all. Mild oak, dried herbs, cherry, blueberries, earth and a touch of spice. Medium finish. Not as good as day 1 but solid. 91 points
Recommendation: An excellent but under $70 via auction.

  • 2013 Robert Foley Merlot 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

So the hosts liked this better than us other 3 but I like both for different reasons. This is a bigger style but some modern Bordeaux character. Tobacco, oak, funk, cherry, blue fruits, spice and earth. Long finish and concentrated. Again outstanding.
