Set off for what is becoming an annual trip with Phil and Tim to try the finest wines of the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Geelong wine region of Victoria. This was our arrival night so a lazy supper out and then some wine back home
Nice evening, interesting wines, stimulating conversation
2018 Oakridge Chardonnay Vineyard Series Willowlake Vineyard
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
This was a riper and more generous version of the Henk I had a few weeks ago; the reductive struck match character a little more prevalent but not overbearing. Nice

2016 Fromm Pinot Noir Cuvée H
New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Initially this was a bit sweet and sour so, at the chaps recommendation, we gave it a gentle decant and it blossomed. Noticeable though not intrusive whole bunch, a sense of generosity to the dark hued cherry fruit, baking spice. This more refined than shouty...I think I'll give the other bottle a couple more years though

2022 Phase Three Wines Dero
Australia, South Australia, Barossa
Plummy but fresh black fruits, a little complimentary spice, touches of fruit lozenge carbonic maceration. Fresh acidity slightly too soft though persistent tannins. Phil thought it might have been acidified but I suspect it's more triaged harvesting. Pleasant quaffer.

2019 Monchiero Nebbiolo d'Alba
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Nebbiolo d'Alba
Pretty cherry fruit, touches of fruit tea, dried flowers, super clean nose; pristine in fact. And the palate is very much a reflection of the nose backed by fresh acidity & a long, persistent, coarse rasp on the tongue. One of those evaporating bottles. Yum
