Very dark wine with a wonderful powerful nose of black fruits, honey/vanilla and nuts. Slightly sweet fruit with hints of bell pepper, nice acidity and black cherries.

2005 Lapostolle Cabernet Sauvignon Cuvée Alexandre Apalta Vineyard 88 Points

Very dark with soft jammy plum and cherry fruits. Nose was nice but muted. Hints of bell pepper and chocolate. A nice soft and smooth wine.

The nose was not very complex and had simple candied cherry fruit. Balanced but simple cherry fruits with some briary characteristics. Dry.

2005 Chimney Rock Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District 90 Points

Huge nose that you can smell from a foot away. Smells of dark fruit and maybe tobacco. Smooth and soft wine with vanilla, chocalate and black fruits. Nice wine.

2005 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor 92 Points

While the rest of the group was oohing and aahing over the nose on this wine, I was getting something really funky like petrol or rubber. I don't know what it was but i didn't like it. After swirling the glass for a bit it blew off and I was able to get black pepper, bell pepper and smokey fruits. In the mouth it was really nice. Black fruits, coffee, good structure and lots of complexity. I would like to try this again.
