Introduction

A private dinner with thai food menu prepared by celebrity chef Sam Leong's wife - Arayana (Forest) Leong. Very nice homely thai food set in an equally comfy home setting with a perfect view of Jurong and its offshore islands. I liked the starter (some thai cabbage with pinenuts, dessicated coconuts, dried coconut and vege) and the chicken dishes were excellent (good soft succulent chicken meat). The dessert was a special concoction served in a coconut husk with pumpkin puree, vanilla ice cream, black glutinous rice, mango bits and coconut flesh.

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

We started with a sparkling moscato which label i forgot but it was actually quite refreshing and crowd pleasing.

Wet oak and fresh mushrooms on the nose. Controlled butteriness and more mineral and citrus than the normally big style that napa uses. Kinda lacks structure but a gentle wine to enjoy. Moderate length.

  • 1999 Finca Villacreces Ribera del Duero Crianza 81 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Lots of moist moss growing on rainforest tree. Still showing lots of powdery tannins and roughness on the palate , this seems more well integrated than previously tasted with classical dark berry / cherry fruits that showed much more than previous and was even a bit alluring. A second wind? Short finish though.

  • 2000 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 28 Kalimna 83 Points

Cool cedar oak, eucalpytup mintyness and a controlled expression of cool climate shiraz fruits. Slightly spicy only and very well balanced. With hints of meatiness, this is not really not too bad and drinking well within its window.

  • 2005 Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch (Müller-Burggraef) Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 87 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Clean slightly petrol nose intermingled with nice pineapples. This is really minerally clean and sparkling dry finish though there is a lovely balance of acidity and ripe lychees / pineapples on the palate. Excellent length with perrier like sparkling clean finish. Lots of slate minerality and cold stones. This is an excellent wine with impeccable sense of balance. Not the normally fatty rich auslese and some might call lean but I think this is superbly balanced.
