Brian Bangs, John G and I got together once again to taste through some current wines in the Pat Kerns book. I cannot say enough about Brian's ability to find unique, value wines (particularily Italian) to offer to the Twin Cities marketplace. He is quite gifted in this regard. A good time was had by all, and as always, the tasting was very educational for me. Thanks Brian!

2006 Fattoria Le Poggette Canaiolo Umbria Rosso 90 Points
Italy, Umbria
Nose: Plums, violets, and some orchid. Palate: Up front acid and a saline quality that was less prevalent after air. Flavors of cherries and plums. Nice.
Addendum: On 2nd night this wine really opened up. The orchid nose was gone but in it's place were big violets and lavender. The violets and lavender were on palate as well. Great wine for the dollar! Based on day two...91 points.

2008 Uvaggio (L'Uvaggio di Giacomo) Vermentino 90 Points
USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi
Nose: Very clean and mineraly (somehow reminds me of an unoaked Chard). Palate: Clean with melon and soft citrus flavors. Good acidity levels (not sure what some previous reviewers were thinking stating low acid ~ 1800kidney got it right). I like this wine for the dollar.
