2022 Martín Códax Albariño Rías Baixas Burgánsmore |
4/26/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsVery nice fruit forward, easy on the palate smooth drinking white wine. The color is quite yellow that makes us think of peach, of which there is plenty. Continues with poached pear and sweet apricot. Very civilized acid leaves a cleansed bit rich feeling on the palate. The peach and other fruits linger softly on the satisfying finish. Very complete and tasty wine. |

2022 Domaine des Deux Moulins Les Deux Moulins RoséAnjou-Saumur Cabernet Franc more |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 89 pointsMade from traditional Loire red varietals, at first sip this tasted a little young and tight, not yet sharing its stuff without some swirling. Sharp acidic grapefruit and lemon style entry. Some taste of the skins. Of course refreshing, kind of like a 5 PM thirst quencher. Swirling and air release some Cab Franc mineral graphite earthiness, and a touch of mild red fruit. |

2021 Morgante Sicilia Bianco di Morgante Contrada RacalmareNero d'Avola more |
4/26/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 90 pointsA very lovely wine, this Bianca is almost as clear as water. Super clean entry with way more flavor and character than the absence of color would indicate. There is a vibrant, expressive lemon with sugar that is so smooth and civilized. Definitely some taste of the broken skins. Fantastic hood with the palate cleansing acid that is not overpowering. Need to hold it in the mouth a few seconds for all the little nuances to express themselves. |

2022 Daou Vineyards Sauvignon BlancPaso Robles more |
4/26/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 90 pointsMade in a California more elegant possibly leesy style. It feels rich as it crosses the palate with a broad combination of tropical and orchard fruit. Maybe even some melon. There is very adequate balancing acid but it hits you on the mid palate rather than attack on the entry. Orange and tangerine flavors and aromas. Even some banana. Mild golden color. The pure and expressive tropical fruit lingers for minutes. |

2013 Rodney Strong Pinot Noir Russian River Valleymore |
3/15/2016 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsMore austere than expected. Quite tannic from lips to finish. Subdued but correct ripe cherry and blackberry on nose and palate. Plenty of oak. Really opens up in the glass with some air. Some metallic mineral flavors with some wet tree bark. Kind of grows on you with a mouth coating almost menthol or evergreen flavor that lingers with the earthy cherry. |

4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 90 pointsThis is just delightful. More orangish than rose. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, you know it will have some body and character. This is the whole package. Rich and big but still so soft and approachable. Touch of tannin. Very civilized well integrated acid. Complex shale and minerals with orange flavors and some salinity. |

NV Juvé y Camps Brut Rosé Pinot NoirCava more |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsThis kind of a fun wine perfect for that first glass at approximately 5 PM somewhere. It’s Pinot Noir, and from Spain, which is a little unusual. Reddish in the bottle, orangish in the glass. Smells like red raspberry, tastes like red raspberry. A crushed nutshell flavor and feeling. Welcome little wonderful bubbles. There is some accompanying apricot, orange and tangerine. |

4/15/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsThis is my second taste of this in the past 6 months, this time with a lightly spiced cheesy dish. Still get the impression it’s a little rustic and still tasting young. It is pretty heavily extracted with dark purple color and still young integrating acid. The fruit is pretty intense dark cherry, plum and mulberry from nose to finish. It does lack that layered, mushroom earthiness. A bit tart on the finish. |

4/13/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 91 pointsBrutally intense dark ripe prune and black cherry nose. Dark purple as wine gets. Full bodied. Plenty of legs. Stains the teeth. Rich and solid. Big dose of oak. Spice and eucalyptus. Mulberry finish. Some how it all balances. Kind of the Prisoner of Paso. Overall dominated by big ripe blackberry and plum. |

2/20/2018 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 91 pointsAt first my palate thought it senses a little sweetness, especially since the viscosity is rich for a Pinot. But further research categorized this as one of those wines so balanced it does seem to be sweet when totally dry. There is a lot to like here. Some Christmas spice. More wood than usual. Crisp upfront cranberry, red raspberry and cherry. Some metallic flavors. Black pepper and exotic spices and herbs. Just brings layers and complexity.showed a pretty decent pizza who was boss. |

2022 Kelley Fox Wines NerthusWillamette Valley Rosé Blend more |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 92 pointsOh wow, we really have something interesting and distinct here. Not exactly a rose, and definitely not very pink, but just a mouth full of flavor. Several well chosen pedigreed vineyard varieties vinified separately with full malolactic. I get scuppernong, muscadine and clementines. There is an earthy taste of grape skins. Something like roots and wood. Rich but smooth. Spicy apricot on the finish. |

4/24/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsVery light, but really pretty good. The nose has reduction behind the the caramel and sweet cherry candy. Light magenta color. Barely medium bodied. But, basically complete and balanced. Nicely integrated fruit, acid and alcohol. Nice lingering black cherry. Improves with a couple of swirls. Some ripe plum on the finish. |

2022 Rainstorm Pinot NoirOregon more |
4/24/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 84 pointsNot so good. Last time we ran across this Pinot was the 2010 vintage, and we tried to be diplomatic about what we discovered. This 2022 seems to have mostly the same characteristics, so we are assuming this is their desired style. We did review on day one, just to give Mother Nature a chance to bring some overnight air help. Just barely. It is really very thin. There is violets and crushed raspberries and plum, but not a lot. The color is a gorgeous magenta that light even for a Pinot. Not quite medium bodied. There is some tart cherry skin, black and maraschino cherry. It is really soft and kind of shy. But, the problem to me is just raw acid and tannins that kind of overpower everything. By day 2 the expanding marischino cherry is joined by some tangerine and considerably less influence from the raw stuff. |

2018 Bowers Harbor Shiraz ReserveOld Mission Peninsula more |
7/20/2020 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsAs it first entered my palate, I wasn’t so sure about this one. It’s definitely unique and somewhat hard to describe. It has the kind of purple color we expect. The nose is a bit suspect because of some brown sugar even burnt rubber aromas, that continue on throughout the palate. I suspect some chaptilization. Not as overtly fruity as we expect from a wine labeled Shiraz. Given time as we sipped away things livened up with some decent black cherry and lead pencil in a rich mouthfeel. |

2022 Kirkland Signature MalbecMendoza more |
4/14/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsWe are not surprised that Costco does it again with their value priced Kirkland brand. Very adequate and quite typical of Argentinian Malbec as we know it. Quick hitting expressive red fruit. Smooth, soft and approachable, almost delicate across the palate. Very fruity, but not much past the mid palate. Still very tasty. Minimal tannins. Fruity light finish. |

12/10/2016 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 88 pointsThis is just delightful. So light and soft it just dances across the palate. Some really nice pineapple, tangerine, apple and lemon. As balanced between the fruit and acid as a sparkling wine can get, given a slight amount of sweetness. Light golden color. The bubbles and acid so thoroughly cleanse the palate. Honey with apricot on the clean finish. |

2022 Intermingle Pinot GrigioCalifornia more |
4/14/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 86 pointsThis seems to be the first time Intermingle has released a Pinot Grigio. They more or less captured the expected flavor and aroma characteristics, with a dose of ripe California sunshine. Crisp fruity and acidic entry. Tropical fruit with some green apple. Pinot Grigio flavors and mouthfeel. Mostly complete and balanced. More green apple and oily lanolin with lime on the finish. |

4/21/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 86 pointsWe are learning not to be afraid of trying wine from the can. This is nothing special, but it is authentic. Really cute magenta color. Entry tastes much like a Mount Morency cherry. Easy on the palate. Integrated enough that everything works in harmony. Decent Pinot viscosity. Oregon style bright fruit. |

2022 Martin Ray Pinot Noir Monterrey-SonomaCalifornia more |
4/2/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 87 pointsWe have a long experience with Martin Ray showing real Pinot stuff, especially cherry and raspberry. Not necessarily a high scoring wine, but generally authentic, this current combination of Monterrey and Sonoma fruit raises the bar a bit. Barely medium bodied. Correct red but not opaque color. Minerals and mushrooms. Mild tannins dark cherry finish. |
Rosé |
2023 Borealis Vintners Pinot Noir Rose Oregonmore |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 89 pointsHas that soft almost feminine softness to the entry. Nice Pinot Noir bright cherry. Very civilized acid. More than just cherry the mid palate has a touch of mineral earthiness. It is a bit shy at first, takes a minute to open and exhibit some more apricot and tangerine, with some depth and character than when served chilled. |

2023 Bodegas Olivares Jumilla RosadoRosé Blend more |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 90 pointsJust as smooth as silk. The Grenache is doing its job. No harsh hit of acid on the entry. Lots of properly presented raspberry and maraschino cherry. Everything is soft, smooth, balanced and integrated. Some intensity, like acidity and a couple of secondary flavors like limestone or shale sneak up by the finish. |

4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 92 pointsThis is really nice. Just a complete package of balanced fruit, acid, alcohol and a few supporting flavors and aromas. Ridiculously fruity, soft, approachable and balanced. There is no upfront hit of bright acidity. Perfect pink color. Nice hint of roses on the nose. Completely integrated strawberry, cherry and raspberry. Just glides across the palate. |

2022 Field Recordings Wine Cabernet Franc Pet Nat RoséPaso Robles more |
4/20/2024 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 89 pointsLots of unusual here, but all of it for a good cause. A rose of 86% Cabernet Franc and 16% Chardonnay. Broken skins with just a few hours of contact. Fermented with native yeasts not quite dry then finished not quite dry in the bottle. And, it is just barely pink. Very sharp acidic entry. Has an unusual amount of orchard fruit flavors for a rose. Neat little bubbles. Might be a touch sweet. It’s spicy, refreshing and definitely unique. |

12/8/2017 - Mike Kopanski wrote: 82 pointsNot so good. This is more thin and diluted than i recall from earlier vintages. The color is more purple than we expect from Chianti. The nose has way more plum than cherry. Very thin entry with very minor fruit. Just a touch of tannin. Seems to be very heavily filtered. Fortunately no off flavors, but also no flavors. |
