5/17/2020 - DoubleMagnum wrote: 89 pointsFull bodied, dark fruited. Like a CdP but still tannic 15 years later. The fruit is still present but the tannins are outshining it now. Given the elevated alcohol, I don't think this will age too much longer or gracefully. Not all wines live forever. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2/28/2009 - KeithAkers wrote: flawed"Classic Values" night (Phillip's apt, Chicago IL): this bottle was a real mess. Highly disjointed on both the palate and nose with some weird black fruits, bad black licorice and a whole lot of burnt plastic tones. There is nothing but tannins and out of whack acidity on the palate. Something just doesn't seem right about this wine and revisiting it later in the evening only made it worse. I'm with holding judgment until possibly trying a bottle in the future Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

1/15/2012 - katgod wrote: 93 pointsThis was bottle 14896 of lot L8113, as some others noticed this is a Bordeaux like wine in that it was dry but the tannins were very smooth and mellow. This had some burnt rubber on the nose initially but like many wines I like to give my wines a couple hours of air in a decanter or glass. The nose had dark strawberries, walnuts, caraway seed, and some tobacco. Palate had spice and nice acidity. I had one of these many years ago and enjoyed it also. I only recently heard about the problems with this wine and wondered if I would agree that it was bad, but fortunately both of these bottles were a great deal. I would gladly buy these wines again if they were available. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

8/3/2010 - microbox wrote: 89 pointsbottle# 33284, Lot 8193. medium ruby, translucent, no fading. nose: red currant, blueberry, boysenberry, licorice (indeed), pimento, eukalyptus, dried weed, vanilla, pencil shavings. palate: meduim body, tannins are not aggressive (anymore), but substantially masculine, the buttery note of wood tannins seems to neutralize a bit. 25 Caudalie. a bit too much oak for my palate, but still a decent wine. next bottle in 2011. |

8/26/2010 - jvogel wrote: NRWildly ironic: This ingestion marks the second time this wine has been served to me blind, and I fuggered it all up AGAIN. Substantially more forward and new-worldy than the last showing of this little lady, with lots of caramelly oak wafting from the glass. The spiciness remains--lots of it, in fact--and the flavors seem more cordial and open than they did last time, coming across more loudly in the black fruit spectrum than the reds of the last bottle. Vanilla and violet are married nicely on the nose and the palate, buttressing some streamlined notes of earth and graphite, though it's easy to miss these subtleties in the rush of fruit flavors. The color is starting to brick, indeed quite noticeably at the rim, and the tannin structure has integrated brilliantly. My thought is that this wine is peaking, and that its pre-2010 showings may have been mildly (in some cases, not so mildly) disjointed. My stab in the dark as to this wine's identity: 2006 Le Serre Nuova from Ornellaia. A disastrous pick from the get-go given the signs of age in the wine's color; however, never having seen nor tasted the '06 LSN, I rationalized that it could in fact be a non purple-ized wine, a true Tuscan, and could have softened in color as have many of its 2006 Chianti cousins. |

On the palate, gobs of blue and black fruits, gamey smoked meat, melted black licorice, spicy oak. Finishes with sturdy tannins and juicy acidity. Drink with a long decant or continue to hold. Great value. |

10/25/2010 - Eric Guido Likes this wine: 88 pointsOn the nose, I found ripe dark fruits, hints of nail polish remover, dusty rock and minerals with a hint of Pecorino cheese. The palate was tight, more restrained than I expected from the nose, with a high level of acidity showing sour strawberry, cinnamon and a bit of animal musk. The finish was fresh with faded red fruit. |

Interesting vine, still in development. High acidity, much fruit, herbal, intensive minerality, and cristal clear. If this one really matures and becomes smoother, it will be a top vine. |

12/12/2010 - paletti wrote: 88 pointsDecanted (poured into empty bottle and back) 5 hours before drinking. Nice deep red color with plenty of legs. Great nose with intense dark fruit (cherries, blackberries, cassis) and the oak was much less than expected, reminded of pencil shavings. A lot going on on the nose, will get a great bouquet in future I reckon. Slightly hot but with food not too noticable, has 14% though! Taste was good, nice long finish, and very nice mild-medium tannins, much better than expected after reading the notes here on CT. Can put away easily for another 10 years, nice bottle. |

2/6/2011 - Eric Guido wrote: 88 pointsThis bottle showed rich blue and blackberry fruits on the nose with spice, cola and vanilla. On the palate, I found concentrated sour red fruit with cedar on a tight acid forward frame with a hint of alcohol showing through. The finish is medium long but drying. |

8/15/2011 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRNot overly impressive. The wine is above average... though simply an over-ripe, oaked, dark fruited wine. Dried red fruit, raisins, chocolate, vanilla and spice immediately come to mine... med-med-plus body, with balanced acid, which keeps it from being syrupy.... a decent mouthfeel... and a decent finish... which lingers a bit on the palate... though I'd simply compare it to some California Zins... though would actually prefer an average Zin at this moment.. and I think an average Zin would actually be more enjoyable...OK, OK.. Maybe it is a touch more elegant then a Zin, though definitely not worth $40, and barely worth the $20 I paid.. the problem I find with this wine is that nothing sets it apart from the majority of new world wines today... sure it's a unique blend, though it's simply ok.. nothing is wrong with the wine, though nothing is overly impressive... there are definitely more impressive wines on the market for this price point... and definitely plenty of wines on the market that are half the price and more impressive... I would not recommend buying... though if you already own, drink up and move on... it's nothing to put your hopes into... sorry.. |

8/23/2011 - GalvezGuy wrote: 92 pointsHere is a testament to the durability of Mourverdre/Monsatrell. This bottle was left in non-airconditioned space the entire summer, with temps often in excess of 90F. I found it in a box with some liquor bottles. Popped and poured. Nose of blueberry, black fruit, smoked meat, anise, plum, baking spice. On the palate, blueberry, black fruit, licorice, spice, smoked meat. Finishes with smooth tannins and balanced acidity. Based on the storage I would say drink with a long decant or continue to hold. |
