2008 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Le Puits SecEola - Amity Hills more |
6/14/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRTasted over 4 hours. Devloped and ready to drink, though still showing some youthful vigor IMO. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, cherry skins, bakers spice, damp wood, rose petals and wet stone, with hints of cranberry. Deep, tight and beguiling at times, with potential to develop with more time and/or air. Medium body, with good penetration, balanced acid and fine, dusty, mildly palate coating tannins. I assume this will develop and drink well for at least another 5 years or more. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2016 County Line Pinot Noir RoséAnderson Valley more |
9/3/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRI agree with most of the previous reviews. Solid rosè. Food friendly, with good synergy between the delicate flavors of roasted chicken, squash and polenta. Textured, balanced, direct press mouthfeel. Clean, delicate, melon and cucumber water nuances, with subtle mineral and floral notes. Refreshing, without being overly acidic. Overall, well made, with good texture, balance and mouthfeel, with elegant/delicate aromas and flavors. A new addition to my top 5 for the year. 2 people found this helpful, do you? 3/6/2011 - Personal Opinion wrote: 92 pointsIn my opinion, a classic styled Napa Cab... on the rustic side of the fence with hints of worn leather, though with a beautiful integration of new oak and dark ripe fruit.. good, balanced, concentrated mid-palate, with chalky, unfiltered substance, without over-extraction (thank goodness), and a solid medium-plus finish with dusty tannin... dark current, cassis, pencil lead, subtle coffee, and lovely spicy cigar box carry from the nose through the creamy finish... consistent with previous tasting months ago.. recommendable.. loved it! |

8/9/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NREnjoyed over two days. Layers of black cherry, beet root, mild charred oak, caramel, spice, cola and earth. Very representative of Carneros fruit. Medium-medium bodied, with balanced acid and fine, dusty tannins. Lingering, warm finish of red fruit, spice and stone. Respectable example of region. |

6/10/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRGood aroma and flavor when first opened, though texture was disjointed, thin and tannic. After 3 hours of air, everything came together well.. filling out and smoothing out. Classic Bordeaux aromas and flavors of black current skins, graphite, and perfumed wood spice, with notes of worn, black leather, black cherry, resinous herbs and gravel. Medium-full bodied, with balanced acid and fine, dusty, dry tannins. Enjoyable. Highly recommendable for price point. Decant. Pair with savory red meat. |

2011 Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon Oak Knoll Districtmore |
9/30/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRDecanted for 1 hour. Very well made! Showing the more savory, Bordeaux-esque side of Napa Cabernet. Beautifully integrated layers of black currant skins, black olive, licorice, bell pepper, mint, graphite and pencil shavings. Balanced, round, smooth, medium-plus bodied. Ready to drink, though I'm sure this could handle 5+ more years, easy. Paired excellent with Filet Mignon topped with Blue Cheese and Garlic Potatoes. |

6/28/2022 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRSome bricking. Developed. Aromas of warm fig paste, tapenade, dried herbs and grilled meats. Integrated and complex. Gaining some power and depth with air. Soft and round mid palate, with balanced acidity in finish. Fine, dusty, integrated tannins. Medium bodied, yet penetrating and mouth coating, with a looong, savory finish. Lingering flavors of tapenade, dried herbs and grilled meats. Drinking well. Impressive! |

9/25/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRSolid wine. Drank well over two nights, with little degradation.. although more enjoyable on night two. Dark red fruit, ripe strawberries, florals, loam and classic anise layers highlight this wine. Medium bodied, with dusty, fine, dry tannins and balanced acid on day one, which softened and became smooth and easy on day two. Good value. Ready to drink, though likely ageable for the next 5 years. |

7/20/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRDrinking well now. More Bordeaux-esque, then Californian overall. Aromas and flavors of black currant skins, dark fruit, pencil wood, graphite, wet stone, and loam, with subtle nuances of purple florals and savory black olive. Medium-medium-plus body. Balanced acid. Fine, dusty, dry tannins. Well made. Enjoyable. Classic Sonoma balance and Bordeaux-esque profile. Good stuff. Paired with Filet wonderfully. |

2011 Red Car Syrah Sonoma Coastmore |
4/29/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRDrink or hold. Still youthful. While drinkable shortly after opening, a long, 3 hour decant, significantly helped flesh out the fruit and texture. Silky, smooth, round, texture, with subtle, soft tannins. Layers of balanced ripe, darker fruit and savory nuances of olives, crushed stone, mild black pepper, charred wood and meat jus. Elegant overall, with good concentration, depth and refined texture. Lingering finish, without feeling heavy or cloying. A well-made, Northern Rhone inspired, Sonoma Coast Syrah. Paired perfect with Filet, Demi-glacé and garlic potatoes. Overall, impressive style and grace. |

5/19/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRDelicious! Classic old world Rhone style. Smooth, round, medium-medium-plus body, with fine, resolved tannins. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, florals, spice, wet stone and worn leather. Everything I love about Southern Rhone wines. I assume this has a handful of years left, though drinking well now. |

10/18/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRLong 8 hr decant. On the savory side of the fence. Black coffee, black currant skins, green olive, mild eucalyptus and graphite. Smooth, integrated mouthfeel. Medium-medium-plus bodied, with softened tannins, balanced acid and elegant, lingering finish. Paired very well with filet and blue cheese. Drinks above its price point. Should continue to age gracefully and develop more savory characteristics with time. |

2008 Bodegas Nekeas Garnacha El Chaparral de Vega SindoaNavarra more |
7/8/2011 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRseems to be less acidic and less pepper nuances then I remember from prior bottles a year or more ago... with focused ripe black raspberry, raspberry seed, candied red licorice, and oak dominating the nose and palate now... with subtle notes of spice and pepper in the far background.. an enjoyable weekday wine... nothing to complain about.. decent qpr... probably would have been a little more juicy and pleasing for it's profile, if a touch more RS was left in the blend (IMO).. I don't think there is any need to wait to drink this wine, as it will only lose the most enjoyable part... the ripe fruit... drink up |

3/21/2011 - Personal Opinion wrote: 91 pointsRain water is a good description.. b/c the wine is definitely mineral driven with heavy notes of wet stone and seashell, though that is not all.. some subtle developed tropical nuances mingle under the surface, with notes of crisp apple lingering in the finish... a wonderful pairing with sauteed prawns.. refreshing, medium-medium plus bodied, though not as lean as one might expect, though by no means fat... i guess that means there is good balance... and it does have a nice mouthfeel.. very enjoyable, a great wine to have on hand for shellfish and seafood... I'm very happy.. recommendable. |

8/5/2017 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: NRFull disclosure, this bottle was stored improperly at variable temperatures, including multiple periods of higher temperatures, for 2 years... though to my surprise, it was drinking well?!?!? No overtly obvious flaws, due to improper storage. Open and ready to drink. Dark, ripe fruit, sweet tobacco, integrated pencil shavings, graphite and earth, with subtle notes of bell pepper in finish. Classic Bordeaux similarities. Well made. Smooth and balanced, with a fuller bodied mouthfeel. Integrated 14.9% alc. Surprise, surprise... much tougher then believed.. |

2/28/2011 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRI noticed this on day 1 in a blind tasting.. kinda meaty, mineral, a slight leather quality, and dark fruited... I liked it.. I thought it stood up well against the 2005 LaGrange.. and unmistakable Bordeaux nose and palate... though on day three I really found this wine blossomed... dark fruit, dense black cherry, black olive, old leather, sweet cigar/tobacco, mineral... classic Bordeaux markers... although the finish IS rather short, it's only $27 for a 2005, which from my perspective is a relatively good value.. b/c it doesn't lack concentration or character... it's a good QPR.. especially for the patient.. open at least a day before enjoyment, or simply give it more time in the bottle.. |

8/26/2022 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: 94 pointsStill enjoyable.. if not impressive. S bottling. Opened 10 hours without significant degradation.. only positive changes IMO.. full of Brett in the best way possible.. floral, spicy, sappy, concentrated, balanced.. full of character, texture and body.. Not sure where this is going or how much life it has left in it, though after 11 years and 10+ hours open, I’d say it’s still holding strong. Recommended ;) |

2010 Fidelitas Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valleymore |
8/5/2012 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRAnother example of the cooler 2010 vintage... Leaner and structured upon opening... Dusty, ripe strawberry, creamy vanilla and mild cedar, intermingled with subtle herbs.... Medium-medium-plus bodied, with solid acid backbone... needs time to flesh out... most enjoyable on day 3... only becoming creamier, rounder and softer with time, while still retaining a freshness of ripe, dark, red fruit... a good candidate for time in the cellar... in fact, I would recommend it. Good QPR. Just needs time. |

3/26/2022 - Personal Opinion Likes this wine: 91 pointsInteresting and enjoyable, though past its prime for my preferences. Bricking. Earthy, savory, sous bois, cranberry nuances on the nose. Resolved, very fine tannins. Mild-medim acid. Med bodied, transparent palate. Savory, sous bois, earthy, mildly tart, red fruited and cola nuances on the palate. Acceptable pairing with shiitake teriyaki salmon. Should have opened a few years ago, though definitely not bad.. still enjoyable.. more of a personal preference of age at this point. Drink now. |

7/23/2012 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRSimply beautiful... Elegant, mineral laced dark, ripe, red fruit, with layers of florals, black pepper, anise and exotic, ground spices... Medium body, with dusty, dry tannins and a juicy acidity... No slouch in the structure department... Drinkable now, though would be interesting to follow this wine for 5 years or so... The 33% Carignan included in this wine is evident and pronounced. I love it!!! Classic Roussillon... Yum!!! Great QPR! |

7/16/2012 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRI was a huge fan of the 2009, though now unsure about the 2010 vintage. It open with aromas and flavors reminiscent of a light, inexpensive Chilean Cab... with pronounced green nuances :( After two hours, some ripe fruit did emerge, though the green earthy component still lingered in the background. Maybe it's just going through a phase or this bottle is off... the texture was pleasant, with medium body, balanced acid and light, dusty tannins... very different from the 2009... just my opinion though, maybe some will like this better... I'm undecided at this point... time will tell... maybe it just needs some serious air to come together at this point? ... the last glass was best, with mineral and lead pencil emerging... |

8/2/2012 - Personal Opinion wrote: NRPure, dark fruit, with overtones of iron, pepper, herbs, spice, dried scrub brush. Lean, medium bodied, with solid acid and good texture. No evident use of heavy oak. Simply pure, dark, spicy fruit. Enjoyable and a great match with herb pork sausage. If served blind, I would think this was a Southern Rhone of some type. Cheers. |
