9/22/2018 - dsgris wrote: NRUnfortunately, I neglected to read my previous note to hold a few more years. Very herbaceous and primary now. Finally after a week open, it's starting to become drinkable for me. The pronounced vegetive bell pepper is starting to moderate. I like a more reserved wine and this is far from that. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (8) |

8/8/2016 - dsgris Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark ruby blackberry and cedar nose. Tart brambles, medium fruit kept fresh with the acid followed by chewy tart tannins. Acid is the focus here and very nice for those liking a tart medium fruited wine. If you are looking for luscious bacon fat, move along to a warm vintage. Us OR pinot lovers should be happy with this one. Some sorrel along with the Himalayan blackberry. A long life ahead for this wine, drink for the freshness, or hold. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (5) |

2/10/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 90 pointsDarkish ruby with a savory nose of Himalayan blackberries. Tart red berry, bright fruit with some light cane tannins. Medium fruit and body and starting to come together and on the young side. I opened several nights ago and It was pretty primary so I set it aside. Last night three it turned the corner with the edges softening, the fruit showing red currants and sour cherries, earth, leather with a bit of balsam forest notes. Much more complex than the base '14 WV Pinots that I find are drinking well now. With the acid and tannins present, I'm looking forward to the development over the years. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

Very well balanced and drinking well, some mineral with light bitter in a positive way. Good to go on the PnP. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

1/17/2018 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsMedium ruby with lilac nose. Dry, restrained, light acid and fruit with out being austere, having a good balance veering toward the AFWE spectrum. Raspberry, rhubarb, red currants and pomegranates along with forest notes of balsam, sorrel, finishing up with some chewy bright berry fruit and cane tannins. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 2014 Vincent Pinot Noir Eola - Amity Hillsmore |
10/1/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 92 pointsmedium ruby with a flinty nose of red berries. Dry, some flinty mineral, light fruit, medium acid and light tannins. Bright red berry with fresh fruit, red currants, balsam and pine. Fairly restrained for a warm vintage and should improve over time, but drinking well now. Night two, a little lemon zest acid is developing which balances the lightly chewy fruit, some raspberries and well integrated tannins contribute to a very good wine. This AVA becoming my favorite in the WV. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars Pinot Noir Willamette Valleymore |
11/17/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsLight garnet with some lilacs on the nose. Off dry with a lightly sweet fruit, light body and tannins, well balanced with a soft mouth feel of slightly metallic stony mineral. The fruit has a bit of cranberry, rhubarb, pomegranate fermented leaving some rs to temper the acids and tannins. OK, overnight a transformation into a more recognizable Goodfellow style with some bright fruit and while not austere is getting to reserved territory, nice acid and rs has left, just some nice soft fruit with a hint of cane tannins to give a good balance, a whiff of tobacco on the last glass. Drinking very well and up a couple points overnight. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2/10/2018 - dsgris Likes this wine: 90 pointsInky dark purple with a nose of cedar and cassis. Dry, bold fruit and body, showing some restraint with age. Candied cherries and leather, earthy and showing some prevalent acid and chewy tannins for a good balance. Started out a bit primary, but evolved after a couple of days into nicely drinking on the bold side fruit forward though not jammy red wine kept in check by the acid which would pair well with beef, lamb or duck. A lot of room for further development with time, should last years more. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

5/22/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 87 pointsInky dark purple, light savory nose, some blackberries. Dry tart savory blackberry with tobacco and leather. A bit of raw bitter for starters and needs some time to mellow a bit. Went well with braised pork chops and grilled veggies. I do not find this as offensive as most of the posters, so if you want to ship yours prepaid, I will accept all you want to send. They will get good with more age. 87 pts on night one. 1/15/2016 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsOpaque purple red, it was the last glass and I stirred up some sediment. Cherry nose, dry with herbaceous tannins, bold tart fruit which gives a counter balance to the relatively bold body resulting in a full flavored more earthy than fruity wine. A bit young and has the stuffing to develop with some more age, just a bit of bitter detracts from a remarkable wine at present. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2/10/2019 - dsgris Likes this wine: 92 pointsLight golden towards orange tinge, Kiwi fruit nose. Slight off-dry with light acid, medium fruit and a good balance of the rs and acid. Drinking very well with a lovely mouth feel, some candied lemon rind and lighter limoncello. Super good sipper, need to try with some spicy Asian. Drank with some Tak-a-Way hot and sour soup, should be good with some Pok Pok hot wings. Getting some Mandarin orange and white peach notes on night two, smooth and velvety. 12/5/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsTransitioning from liking the restrained to a bolder style with the onset of colder weather and the last bottle of this was so good, I opened another and it did not disappoint. Becoming more restrained overnight with tart red berry, forest notes of balsam and sorrel to the fore. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

12/25/2016 - dsgris Likes this wine: 92 pointsMedium garnet with a bright red berry nose. On opening there is a good smooth acid leading into soft fruit and light tannins with good mouth feel, great balance for a restrained though not severe wine with enough fruit to satisfy many with a good balance and drinking very well now. Medium body and fruit of currants, cranberry with some earthy components and forest balsam notes. Very enjoyable. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

12/26/2015 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsDark opaque ruby red. Dark red berry nose. Dry raspberry with chewy tannins, medium body and fruit, pomegranate and red plums with some stone fruit tannins, blood and leather. The acid leads the fruit with the tannins not far behind. Drinks well now with food and shows potential for further improvement with more time to smooth out the rough edges. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

11/28/2014 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsMedium ruby, earthy nose with a little rubber note. Open over night, dry with bright berry, tart mineral. Interesting rubber phenol mineral notes, must be the dirt showing. Nice tannins to complement the acid and the fruit which is still showing primary flavors of tart blackberries. Just starting to drink well with a lengthy future. Getting some nice roast beef and cranberries on night three balanced by the bracing acidity. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Restrained on the AFWE side. Very enjoyable and well balanced on the PnP. Lighter style that goes well with summer fare. Drinking well now. A couple of nights later this is sublime, but then I love the '07s. 3/31/2017 - dsgris Likes this wine: 90 pointsMedium ruby with a bricking rim. Opened and poured a glass and left on the counter for an hour. A little funk on the nose. Light body and fruit with a metallic flinty mineral note. Rather light acid and tannins, the fruit has a ripe plum in a restrained fashion. There is a good balance, but some open time is beneficial. It becomes better with more open time. This is not your CA or WA Syrah, but bespeaks an OR style and is akin to cool climate versions in the WV, restrained and gets better as the night moves on. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 8/19/2018 - dsgris Likes this wine: 92 pointsDark ruby with red cherries on the nose. Dry with some tart tannins, medium cherry fruit, just a hint of stone fruit bitters which adds complexity. Open for several days, getting better with open time and drinking very well now. Good on it's own, but calls for some food as an Italian syle wine should. WA Sangio is one of my favorites of the region. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
