2016 Giulia Negri Barolo La TartufaiaNebbiolo more |
11/8/2021 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRLifted elegant and light Barolo- la morra femininity with a gentle floral nose, medium body and some nice red fruit and goudron notes. Lovely toothsome tannins that softened with food. Drunk over 2 days- air definitely improved it but possibly also day 1 being “leaf” and day 2 being “fruit” on the biodynamic calendar. Despite all the positives of the development, I can’t help thinking something was being held back- or some element was not showing as well as it should. Good, enjoyable, but not memorable. Probably entering the tunnel as so many ‘16s are at the moment. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

2020 Maison Harbour Bourgogne BlancChardonnay more |
5/5/2022 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRI am very lucky to have bought 12 of these and to have a wine of this quality as my “house white” as the weather warms up! It’s a beautifully restrained, elegant expression in 2020- the minerality, poise, kiss of oak and long light persistence make this a delight. Not punching above it’s level but winning every bout in its class! Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2015 Thibault Liger-Belair Bourgogne Les Grands ChaillotsPinot Noir more |
11/1/2021 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRHeld up well over two days- drier tannins towards the end being the only downside I experienced. Great quality price ratio, typical NSG bouquet described very well in the notes below- I noted additionally gentle touches of girolle mushroom on day one and some soft leather on day two. Complex for its level- this is a well made wine at the perfect stage of evolution for my tastes. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

2017 Idda Etna RossoEtna DOC Nerello Mascalese more |
7/7/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRVery enjoyable- has a basic elegance not unlike a good bourgogne rouge- a little more supple than other Etna Rosso 17s - some silky tannins, a sweetness, almost candied red fruits (freeze dried strawberries) and some gentle stem tannins that add freshness. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 12/29/2020 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRNeeded time out of the bottle to blow off the alcohol heat. Tannins very soft and well integrated. Enjoyable once fully open with a full body and round mouthfeel. Finish is uneven- long on the tar note more than any other. Good without being exceptional. This is still a youthful Barbaresco- no tertiary notes at all. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 2016 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
7/15/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRBig! and has that silky rich spicy opulence the 2016 vintage seems to have embued on all the Sangiovese from Montalcino. Hoping the prominent oak will integrate more as these age as the wood gives a grainy tannin texture over the satin of the vintage. Being picky criticising the wood influence- the wine is excellent value for money. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

4/8/2021 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRAgree with notes here that this appears rough on opening. Other comments here recommend approaching it on day 2- which I'm doing currently and it much more balanced. It still has those black tea tannins so this requires food, but the fruit is more in balance with the alcohol, acidity and tannins on day two. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 2/10/2022 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRVery enjoyable- the best of the recent Spanish bottles I’ve been exploring. Moreish acidity, great fruit notes, grippy tannins and the start of developed balsamic notes. Elegant and structured. This clearly has many many years of development ahead. Nearest comparison for my Italian frame of reference would be an exceptional Barbera Superiore due to the acidity, fruit and well suited oak structure. But with more potential for complexity. Good stuff- will aim to get more of this and some older vintages. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

8/5/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRThis was really good value- a floral nose with violets, red berry fruit, fresh acidity and stem influence within the fruit. Some mild tannins giving grip but quaffable without food too. This a great everyday drop. |

12/17/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRInitial nose on opening was a touch alcoholic- but fortunately this blew off quickly and a lovely aromatic nose soars out of the glass, terracotta, roses and an expectation of red fruits. |

9/13/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRAs classic a young Barolo as one could hope for. Perfect ‘tar and roses’ nose jumps from the glass and keeps giving throughout. For €60 in a Capri restaurant this was just great. Obviously you have to be up for the bite of the young tannins and food is essential. |

3/18/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NROpened and drank 2 small glasses. Vacuvined and finished 4 nights later with C. No formal notes taken but from recollection the nose on night 1 was wonderful, the palate tightly coiled but very balanced. When reapproaching days later the nose was more muted but the palate had unwound significantly offering far more to the taster in mouthfeel. I liked this to accompany food given it’s tannin structure and acidity which was high but in balance. The oak influence is harmonious and complementary. Excellent value premier cru- potentially only at the very start of a long drinking window. |

6/13/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: 94 pointsSuperb! Astonished that it was ready to go on opening- and with already balanced oak influence. The quality of the vintage is to the fore here- I can’t beat Walter Speller’s description here “sensationally balanced and utterly compelling”. |

5/25/2022 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRHad this in the cellar for a year now- on opening the alcohol surprised me followed by acidity and a vegetal tannin that could be stem or seed. Fresh, and once the initial alcohol nose had blown off, floral and enticing. |

2020 Bruno Giacosa Roero Arneismore |
2/23/2022 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRThe nose has a quality I instantly connect to Le Langhe and a white floral apricot pit quality that beckoned me in. On the palate it races down the groove of the tongue with a fizzy spritely acidity finishing on a long lingering minor chord- not quite bitterness but a contrast to the allegro major chord the nose and mid-palate are played in, almost insisting on a further sip to bring about a resolution. |

7/20/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRVery nice light white burgundy- pale straw colour, fragrant honeysuckle, a little struck match and very gentle beeswax nose, refreshing yellow apple and star fruit on the mid palate and quite persistent finish. Glad this was recommended to me- great value and will go through the rest of the case with ease! |

9/24/2021 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRRicher, with more pronounced body and clearer wood influence (notes of vanilla particularly) than previously noted below, could be the contrast with a much leaner acid driven Italian white we had the same night, could be the wine taking on more body and complexity with evolution in the bottle? Still delicious and a great wine for its level and price. |

10/2/2022 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRLast one of the case, another good bottle. These have a good few years life with this quality of fruit, acidity and oak treatment. Sadly not for me! I need to learn from this experience and not start on my 2020s until at least this time next year. |

2/17/2022 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRAccidental cellar pull- far too nice for a regular Thursday night really. Juicy, poised, leaning more Merlot than Cab Sauv despite the percentages of each being almost equal with a bit of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot elongating the spectrum. Fresh and quaffable but enjoyably secondary notes on the nose as well. A wine that I’m informed is intended for drinking young. I agree on tonight’s showing- a real crowd pleaser with no chance of seeing what it’s like on a second night! |

9/16/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRSuperb in combination with Spaghetti alla puttanesca- a wonderfully aromatic nose- with a bit of spice on the palate. Like a mix of Pinot Nero and Lagrein. All the great LN notes you’d expect from a good producer in a good year- vibrant acidity, friendly tannins and that berry fruit/ terracotta palate. |

9/25/2022 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRBig smooth and powerful. I’m not used to these types of wines and initially found the vanilla note overwhelming although it did recede after 3 hours open. Enough acidity to drive it forwards and good length as well. |
