1983 Hugel Pinot Noir "Hugel"Alsace more |
9/4/2012 - carlkallen wrote: 91 pointsAlmost bordelean dark ink hue with brick edging and structured legs despite noticeable crystallization. The aroma is leathery and sunny with a slight undertone of Graphite and porcini mushrooms. The taste has graduated from mere strawberry jam to complex truffel infused chocolate tart with hints of cinnamon and vanilla essence and pruned raisins to a degree seldom obseved in a pinot noir. Expressions insufficient, trial required and world class effort. The makers had it tight to create a 'Réserve Personnelle' |

6/29/2012 - carlkallen wrote: 84 pointsOpaque and cloudy Maroon with moderate tearing. Looks more like a cup of Java than it does a Pinot Noir. The aroma reminds of prune chutney and the taste is mildly choclaty and slightly jammy, reminiscent of a younger Pinot Noir. Tannins still quite impressive which has saved it from ultimate decline. This wine has definitively passed its prime, is an interesting concept that peaked in 2000. |

9/4/2011 - carlkallen wrote: 90 pointsLight transparent rust-blood/plum coloured with medium legs. Fresh, vanilla and strawberry/rasperry aroma. Berries continue in the mouth with sweetness, plum, honey, vanilla and concludes with light peppery/liquorice notes - medium palate and light tannins in the bouque |

4/5/2012 - carlkallen wrote: 89 pointsDark brass colour with good tearing/legs. Subtle aroma with hints of butterscotch and fruit. Taste accentuates the aroma with good structure, acidity and balance. A 20-second lingering taste and clean finish with a slight 'green' taste. A lovely wine and this particular bottle brought significant joy. |

12/11/2011 - carlkallen wrote: 88 pointsDark Ruby and medium legs and lower-than-expected viscocity. The cassis aroma was accentuated by the taste of licorise and hints of vanilla. Tannins are rather pronounced despite it's age. The taste is lasting and shows the potential of this wine. It is a wine for 2015-2016. |

12/25/2011 - carlkallen wrote: 88 pointsBeautiful tearing with brass straw hue. Nectary aroma, flowery smell, a light citusy element (limoncello) of straw with a well-balanced finish with mild chalk taint. A lovely wine that will drink for another handful of years |

1/28/2012 - carlkallen wrote: 85 pointsSavoy gold, honey with mixed bubbles. Little or no co2 cork release. Sherry with paprika aroma with hints of muskiness. The taste complements aroma and adds layers of butterscotch fading to home made bread and medium acidity. Nectar is concentrated and rich with velvety aftertaste that lingers for 45 seconds. This wine is in a midlife crisis and whilst being mature and of high pedigree, has acquired a profile that makes it more challenging. Would have been a clear 90 in 2008, now probably overmature for most. Good experience, notwithstanding |

10/21/2011 - carlkallen wrote: 81 pointsFairly thin, light blackberry colour with meek tears. The aroma is pleasant and fresh with slight cranberry aroma. Taste reminds of red-currants, slightly tart and flush with medium tannis. A good everyday table-wine with some finesse. Probably peaking in 2014. |

7/8/2012 - carlkallen wrote: 83 pointsPale brass colour with medium tearing. Green and moss aroma with light citrus with hint of butter. Weaving taste of cellary musk with light tartness but smooth finish. A good Chardonnay without being stereotypically maleoctic nor buttery California. Neither is it Burgundian in character and it is going its own way. Quality certainly good but questionable direction |
