2005 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valleymore |
1/26/2019 - PortFanatic wrote: 94 pointsDark color. Looks young for a 14 year old wine. Double decanted, corked and the served a few hours later. WOW! This is really excellent. B lack cherry and plums. Maybe slightly monolithic. A big wine, but the structure just seems to be just right. There are some subtle, but fine tannins that come in late and the acid gives it a lift. Very balanced for such a big wine. This is in a really good spot. |

5/7/2013 - PortFanatic wrote: 91 pointsFinally this has come around. Better than I hoped for given its poor showing on release. Definitely a good dose of American oak. Not really mature yet, but was drinkable and has a ways to go. |

10/8/2012 - PortFanatic wrote: 89 pointsThis was very good, but not mind blowing. Still some unresolved tannins, but I also felt that the fruit was fading just a bit. The alcohol was totally under control Was certainly better with food than on its own. |

2/13/2016 - PortFanatic wrote: 91 pointsClearly Shiraz. Old school style with American oak. Not over-blown at all. Needs just a bit of decanting. Went great with steaks. Drink now and over the next 3 years. |

5/3/2015 - PortFanatic wrote: 89 pointsPurchased on release. Some oak in the nose still, but actually subtle and quite inviting. Good body, rich palate. Long finish. Not a big overblown wine, but has good balance. If you are expecting Northern Rhone you will be disappointed. Very nice for a 2001 Aussie. This has held up quite well and is not over the hill. Probably at peak. Drink up -- unless you like your wines very old. Paired with a grilled Coulotte steak, which worked very well. |

5/21/2008 - PortFanatic wrote: 89 pointsImmediately I smell bread on the nose when the cork is popped. Pouring it out, it's VERY foamy. I suspect soap in the glasses... but no... that's just the way this wine is. A nice, polite Champagne. Could use more backbone, but the flavors are nice and finish is not too sweet. |

5/27/2008 - PortFanatic wrote: 90 pointsA little foamy. Lots of yeast on the nose. Very tight with a good mineral core. This did open up in about 30 minutes to show much finer apple favors and a good acidity in the finish. Very obviously Blanc de Blancs in style. I think this needs at least a few months in the cellar to settle down. A very nice Champagne. |

6/1/2009 - PortFanatic wrote: 91 pointsVery light color. Very fine bubbles. Some subtle yeasty notes. Nice fresh fruit with some lemon acid that adds lift. Obviously French to me. Very well balanced. Nice wine! A bit more complexity and stronger acidity would take this to the next level. |

12/15/2010 - PortFanatic wrote: 91 pointsI was shocked how good this was. This bottle was poorly stored on the floor of our kitchen for a decade. I opened it as a pop-and-dump because I was certain that it was bad. Wow! It was great. Wine of the night! Not over the hill at all, smooth and delicious - without the dreaded Brett. |

11/25/2009 - PortFanatic wrote: 95 pointsPeople said the 1999's need drinking up... so I decided to open one of these up. Nice ruby core. Does not look super extracted... just the very slightest bricking. Honestly this looks younger than a 1999. Dusty, complex nose. Really draws you in to the galss. On sipping - fruit envelops the mouth. There is immediately some very fine tannins. I was concerned that they would interfere with the fruit, but just when I became concerned they mellowed. Very European styled. The fruit and structure are really in balance. Awesome acidity. Long finish. I'm left with an impression of Grenache fruit and olives... with just a touch of lemon. No worry about this wine going bad any time soon. Certainly one of the more impressive wines I've had this year. |

9/16/2009 - PortFanatic wrote: 94 pointsWonderful wine! Very alluring nose. Wow... the palate is just seemless. There is structure there, but there is also tons of pure fruit covering it. This is not thick or over the top, but has great balance. Beautiful stuff. |

9/3/2009 - PortFanatic wrote: 92 pointsBeautiful color. Dark purple with ruby rim. Nose is fairly closed. Big fruit on entry....decent acidity...some tannins interfere with the finish. A very clean and well made wine. I get a strong, young syrah component in this. Right now it's a sipping wine and not one that you want to drink a lot of. The wine is very good, but is missing some excitement of other 2007 Chateauneuf's that I've had recently. All the parts have not come together yet (no surprise). I suspect that two years will be necessary for this wine to become more enjoyable. Personally, I preferred the Giraud and Janasse. |

1/2/2010 - PortFanatic wrote: 95 pointsVery impressive wine. Still quite young and unformed. Medium-full bodied. Really packed with red and black fruits. Some intruding tannin in the finish. But this shows more terroir and balanced structure than many 2007 CdP's. Needs at least a couple of years to get it's act together, but I believe that it has a lot of potential. This beat out a 2007 Clos St. Jean VV for WOTN. 95+ points. |

12/1/2009 - PortFanatic wrote: 94 pointsDark ruby color. Nice clean red fruit nose. A little closed in the bouquet dept. Oh my! This is impressive in the mouth. Truly three dimensional. Very suave. I don't see a lot of oak influence. Long finish. A very impressive wine, even just pop and pour. I could drink this all night and be satisfied. A very clean, well made wine. The structure certainly shows up the next day. I don't know if this will make old bones, but it will certainly drink well in the medium term. Buy more. |
