6/3/2013 - Zonk wrote: 95 points40th Birthday Dinner at NoMad; 6/1/2013-6/4/2013 (NoMad Hotel, NY, NY): Great fill well into neck. Cork came out in one piece but soaked. The sommelier brought this over looking a bit disappointed, and seemed to think it wasn't really showing many signs of life. By the time it hit the table though, it was literally exploding with a bouquet of cherries and violets. really complex with some hints of tobacco and earth and maybe a bit of soy. really showing explosive fruit for 40 year old bottle, but it faded significantly over about 30 minutes. paired exceptionally well with beef tartare. An eye opening experience with Rioja as old as me. |

6/3/2013 - Zonk Likes this wine: 95 points40th Birthday Dinner at NoMad; 6/1/2013-6/4/2013 (NoMad Hotel, NY, NY): Richy creamy texture. Light steady mousse. Lemon flavors with just a touch of acidity balancing the smooth texture. Some apple flavors as well. Outstanding mature champagne, really hitting its stride. Particularly nice complement to lobster. |

1/23/2015 - Zonk wrote: 94 pointsvery silky and the alcohol was not particularly noticeable. Tons of cherry and lots of spicy undertones (cinnamon?) Showing no signs of fading and really hitting its prime I think. A great bttle of wine and one of the best I've had in a while. My only complaint is it comes off as a bit "heavy" for a pinot. |

7/20/2010 - Zonk wrote: 94 pointsWow! Pale gold color. This has an incredible nose of fresh rye bread (so much so that my wife said it reminded her of getting a pastrami sandwich at her grandparent's place in Brooklyn as a kid). The mid palate has sharp meyer lemon and maybe a some green apple that fades into creaminess with a bit of toasty oak. Medium to long crisp finish. This is a knockout and really could compete with some champagnes at a much higher price level. |

1/4/2018 - Zonk wrote: 94 pointsOak notes on nose along with honeysuckle, apricot, apple and maybe some pineapple. Much lighter on the palate with only the lightest note of well integrated oak. Light-medium body. Apple and pear, less tropical on palate. Would drink in the near future. |

1/2/2013 - Zonk wrote: 94 points90 minute decant prior to1st glass. Huge nose bursting out of the glass mostly of cherries. Lots of red fruit on the palate with maybe a bit of blackberry as well. Somewhat restrained but definitely California. Definitely in a good spot right now. The best Cali Cab I had this year. |

1/21/2010 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsWow!!! Tons and tons of fruit without moving into the syrupy sweet range. No heat at 13.9% Black cherry and maybe some plums on the nose, same on palte but with more red fruit, rasberries in particular and some spice. great example of what Cali Pinot in my opinion. |

9/19/2013 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsSlow ox for about an hour than drank over the course of another hour. Nose of lemon zest and some floral elements. Medium-weight. Oak was noticeable but something short of vanilla. lemon and some weightier tropical flavors. Really nicely done but definitely more fruit and less mineral than I would have expected (my 1st Rhys Chard). Probably better in 3 years when the oak has receded a bit further. |

12/9/2011 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsDrinking really well. 15 minute decant. Obviously fruit forward, but I definitely wouldn't call it "big." Red fruit that had a bit of a candied element, but no cola and certainly not syrupy, and even had a good note of acidity. I think this is a nicely balanced wine, although I could definitely see how some people might shy away from the fruit forward profile. I really think 07 marks the first KB vintage that made great strides towards more balanced wines. |

10/7/2009 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsLet stand in bottle for 90 minutes before pouring. Hadn't had in about a year and surprised how much it had changed. I know that people seems to feel that Kosta Browne doesn't improve much in the bottle, but this has definitely mellowed a bit, and in a good way. No heat at all in this. Tons of cherry with a bit of spice. Medium finish. |

11/14/2014 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsReally great complex wine. Has a lot going on. Pop and Vinturi into decanter. Nice red fruit, herbal with a bit of green pepper (much less pronounced then a few years ago). Also some olive notes. A beautiful wine and the best cabernet based wine I've had this year. |

8/29/2011 - Zonk wrote: 93 pointsPop and pour drank over 4 hours (during a blackout). Some cherries to go along with some really rich darker fruits. Decent acidity and while it is noticeably tannic the tannins are very smooth making this great to drink now. Surprisingly lush and open for mountain fruit. FWIW I think this one is a notch above the Rivers-Marie from the same same year at this stage. |
