8/29/2016 - octopussy wrote: 87 pointsMedium crimson color. In the nose, there were small red berries and white and pink flowers, an uplifting nose, hints of volatile acidity though. In the mouth, it was good, but a tiny bit unprecise and wishy-washy, not a wine to get an easy grip on. |

9/1/2018 - octopussy wrote: 89 pointsBrownish, brass colored, looks plain oxidized. The nose is weird, but interesting and - even though quite ripe seeming - clean. Lots of honey, some caramel, ripe to overripe apricot, some lavender. In the mouth, it is full and ripe, but also quite fresh, mineralic, chalky, really fresh, chalky and lively. Drank over two weeks, really weird wine, somewhat extreme. |

2/25/2024 - octopussy Likes this wine: 89 pointsPale rosé colour, fine bubbles. Restrained nose, there's some red currant and cranberry, but this is mostly marked by wet pebble and flintstone notes. Vivid in the mouth, lively bubbles, relatively high acidity, chalky finish. Excellent. |

4/16/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: 92 pointsMonthly Bojo Night: Older Moulin-à-Vent (+ one Fleurie) and two older Vouvrays: Golden yellow. In the nose, there's yellowish/greenish exotic fruit (kiwi, mango, maracuja), some marzipan, waxy notes, it's very fresh and fine, quite fragrant, but still holding something back. In the mouth, it's very fresh, delicious, a bit austere, green/yellow fruit again, lively acidity, only hints of sweetness, more demi-sec than moelleux right now. Long finish with a nice interplay of acidity (dominating) and fruity sweetness. |

11/26/2011 - octopussy wrote: 87 pointsCuvée of Silvaner and Riesling. Light, clear yellow. Very clear and sharp nose with some smokey aspects to it as well as some minerally fizz, some Ananas, apricot and white cherries. On the palate, it starts with some sweetness, which gives way to a much drier finish. It has lots of perceived minerality and has rather a Riesling feel than a Silvaner feel. |

4/24/2013 - octopussy wrote: 86 points50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Franc. Aged 12 months in barriques with local oak (Röttingen). Shiny dark red. In the nose pleasant, very spicy, some fresh cedar wood, small black berries, some cherry. On the palate, it's slightly diluted and thin, rather sweet, yet with rather strong acidity and soft tannins. It's not bad, but also not really balanced. At the price, there's better Bordeaux. |

1/7/2013 - octopussy Does not like this wine: 82 pointsDark purple red. In the nose, this is rather attractive with elderberries, cassis and a touch of sweet cherry. Green herbal notes as well. On the palate, it's brutal, extremely dry, bitter and adstringend. Rustic tannins. Very closed down. Only for real masochists. |

10/27/2011 - octopussy wrote: 92 pointsLight golden yellow, good texture. Great nose of highest elegance and deepness with brioche, some vanilla, tobacco, yellow plum, citrus fruits, ananas and ripe peach. On the palate, it has lots of extract, a good texture, is rather generous with mild acidity, good dryness and a long and persistently nutty finish. |

12/23/2011 - octopussy wrote: 84 pointsSlightly watery cherry red. Rather fine notes with wild cherry and blackberry with strong earthy tones. On the palate, rather harsh tannins, fine acidity, not much fruit and a rather light body. More disappointing than enlightening. |

12/23/2011 - octopussy wrote: 90 pointsMedium cherry red. In the nose very fine and fragile, however rather reserved. There's some blackberry and raspberry, slight earthy undertones and floral notes. On the palate with good structure, wlel integrated acidity, silky tannins and a touch of red-berry fruity sweetness in the finish. Good, but not outstanding. |

11/23/2013 - octopussy wrote: 88 pointsMagnum Only - Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner (O's House): From Magnum. Medium cherry red. In the nose, it's compact and slightly unexpressive. There are small black berries, some funk, hints of barnyard. On the palate, it's quite tight, fairly acidic, tannic also, still already on the way to getting balanced. Needs much more cellar time though. |

8/29/2016 - octopussy Likes this wine: 90 pointsPale Bordeaux red with brick color on the rim. In the nose, this did show some signs of age, but they were not overwhelming. Strawberry and plum, some fruit left, leather, a fine spiciness, tobacco, very elegant. In the nose, this was surprisingly tannic, but also very juicy, quite structured, a bit of pencil shaving, fairly fresh acidity. |

2010 Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot Minervois Les FontanillesGrenache Blend, Grenache more |
2/24/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: 91 pointsDecanted for two hours. It has a dark blackberry colour. In the nose, there's almost the same elegance as in the 2010 Minervois La Ciaude. There are blackberry and black cherry notes, here and there also light overtones of sour cherry. I sense some Garrigue notes as well. In the mouth, it's quite powerful, but not broad, more linear and still slightly backwards. There's good acidity and agreeable freshness, even for the relatively high alcohol (14.5% ABV). In the finish, you can sense the youth of the wine as the tannins are a bit drying and furry. |

10/29/2012 - octopussy wrote: 98 pointsAmber coloured. In the nose, it has apple, apple cake, roasted hazelnuts, some yeast. Wonderful, very clear, warm and cold. Makes me shiver. On the palate, it has a very clear and pure acidity and sweetness. So expressive and so pure. Like an icy mountain stream. Equally fantastic as the 2007. |

7/21/2011 - octopussy wrote: 89 pointsDark cherry red with purple reflexes. Deep and warm-spicy nose with a lot of licorice and ripe cherries. In addition, fresh acidic berries such as redcurrant. On the palate it has a nice acidic attack which lets the wine appear quite fresh despite the rather high alcohol. The palate has cherries and redcurrant again as well as a bright and clear licorice note (danish salt licorice). The finish is a bit tannic. This could well gain a bit more with one or two additional years in the cellar. Good stuff! |

7/29/2018 - octopussy wrote: 87 pointsLight yellow colour. In the nose, this is crisp, but also a bit indifferent. Citrus fruit and crushed rock, agreeable, but not complex. In the mouth, there‘s good acidity and freshness, again it‘s quite crisp, but not complex. Nice, chalky seeming finish. A good wine. |

5/1/2014 - octopussy wrote: 95 pointsSoirée Jura (Restaurant Madame Hu, Hamburg): From two different bottles, one decanted for four hours, one just opened four hours in advance. Orange colour tending towards the brown. Quite similar from both bottles. In the nose, there's a lot of orange: orange blossom water, English orange marmelade, lots of orange peel. Peaty-earthy notes in addition to that as well as toffee and nut brittle. On the palate, this is beautiful, very fine, earthy, with shining acidity, excellent structure, long with salty notes and orange again (like candied orange with salt on it). A splendid wine, worth a search. |

1/6/2019 - octopussy Likes this wine: 96 pointsIn a great place and even improved as compared to my last bottle a few years ago. It was just very slightly oxidative, super fine, elegant, almost more fruity than nutty and spicy, but with a great underlying thread of yellow spices and the typical vegetal Savagnin aromas of Aloe Vera and white squash. Spectacular. |

1995 Château d'ArmailhacPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
9/23/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: 92 pointsAlmost 30 years of Bordeaux: Dark red. In the nose, this is dense, very fresh, there's pencil shavings, cassis, cherry, herbal notes, it's really, really fresh and cool. Plummy undertones give it some volume, but quite generally this is Sean Connery circa 1964 style. It seems a bit strict, also a bit old-fashioned, but with style. On the palate, this is linear, tight, very "male", leathery, nicely minerally with fine acidity, rather robust tannin and a tart finish. I loved this, it has a pure balance and finesse in a rather strict and restrained style. |

9/23/2014 - octopussy Likes this wine: NRAlmost 30 years of Bordeaux: Clear Bordeaux-Red. In the nose, it seems super young, a bit lactic at first (blackberry yoghurt) and rather modern. With more air, it shows more nuanced, the young, tart fruit stays, there's cassis, blackberry and black cherry, lighter (raspberry) overtones. On the palate, the wine is compact, has strong, but fine tannin, fine acidity, it's very dark overall, has good balance, but seems super young and underdeveloped. Good length, but dark and brooding and unfinished. This is hard to assess now, but has the potential to be great in 10 years time. |

10/5/2013 - octopussy Likes this wine: 92 pointsBordeaux 2001 Blind Tasting (+ two 2000s): Dark Bordeaux-red, lighter towards the rim. In the nose, this is rather "male" and marked by Cabernet with notes of musk, dark berries. It's got good balance and is shimmering with finesse. On the palate, it's very male again, slightly furry and edgy, but nicely balanced with good acidity and a long finish marked by red currant and sour cherries. Makes me wanna drink more of it. Great Pauillac. |

7/10/2014 - octopussy wrote: 86 points2005 Morgons: Purplish red. Blackberry and cassis in the nose as well as black cherry, the fruit seems slightly confected. Very agreeable, not very ckomplex. In the mouth, it's quite rich with slightly rustic tannin, hints of alcohol, medium acidity, cherry again and a nice juiciness. Fairly short finish. While this is definitely not great, it's a very agreeable Morgon that drinks well with Paté. |
