3/28/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 84 pointsGreat QPR. Simple nose. A palate mainly of green apple with hints of peach and nectarine. Short, inoffensive finish. Best with food, too dry with dessert, almost cloying alone. Overall this sparkler presented a novel and unique treat in a different style than champagne, and was better quality than US sparklers at the same price point. |

4/9/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 96 pointsA magnificent dessert wine tasted over several nights. My notes are consistent with a friend’s. The perhaps perfect nose is incredibly complex, with primary notes of black cherry, raisined fruits, and burnt caramel, accompanying secondary and tertiary notes of anise, flowers, charcoal, pumice, and who knows what else. The palate of great balanced acidity begins with similar black cherry and fig flavors before moving to raisins. The only noticeable flaw is the almost cloying finish, which is all but completely subdued when matched with chocolates or other sweet desserts. Nevertheless, the finish lasts for nearly a full minute. Overall, this wine comes highly recommended, and who knows what complexity years aging will bring? AMAZING. |

4/14/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 88 pointsLittle on the nose with a rather one dimensional palate that simply cannot be pinned down as a specific note of flavor. Even with 11 years of age there are still excessive, unrounded, mouth-coating tannins. Nevertheless, this wine has a certain seductive characteristic to it derived from its subtlety, finesse, and sensual mystery. |

4/19/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 92 pointsNose of raisins, walnuts, and heavy alcohol. Palate of raisined fruits and nuts. The gripping and sharp acidity did well to balance the nearly overdone sweetness. I was initially not impressed with this sherry and suspected a corked bottle, but after a few minutes any questionable odors wafted away. I soon warmed up to it but will reserve judgement until I taste it again on another night. 90-94 points. |

7/6/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 88 pointsLight straw in color. Characteristic pinot grigio aroma of green apple, peach, and pear. Light bodied, slightly creamy palate dominated by unripe apple, with some strong rocky mineral character. Enough well balanced acidity to stand up to food and a short finish. Overall a very pleasant quaff. |

7/15/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 83 pointsClear, light pink in color. A weak nose of red fruits. Light bodied palate of overripe strawberries and raspberries. The off-dry style of this white zinfandel was almost fully backed up by its racy acidity, making it acceptible with food. The short to medium finish was a bit offensive due to the overwhelming acidity. |

7/27/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 92 pointsPopped and poured from 375. A bit a funk and VA blew off after 10 minutes. Nose of marmalade with a hint of nuttiness, perhaps due to the recorking in 2005. An explosive palate of orange zest, pineapple, tropical fruits, and creme brulee, with balanced acidity. The long finish was not at all cloying. |

8/19/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 93 pointsA pale golden color with a fine bead. The nose was closed on opening but gained some notes of yeast and apple with time. The palate was not terribly complex on attack, but had mature yeasty flavor along with youthful notes of pear, green apple, and citrus fruits for the well balanced midpalate. It gained weight with time. The near endless finish completed a wine of great poise and finesse. Not a blockbuster, but quintessential mature champagne. Not intellectual, but highly hedonistic, leaving one yearning for more. |

8/30/2006 - bpj87 wrote: NRMore of an old sparkling wine than a mature one. Closed on the nose, and an aged palate of nuts, madreized notes, and a bit of fruit remaining. The finish was the saving grace of the wine as it had evolved into something reminiscent of a Sauternes, with beautiful marmalade, orange peel, and tropical notes. There was also some light carbonation remaining. This wine was certainly over the hill, but still fun to drink as an intellectual curiosity. |

9/1/2006 - bpj87 wrote: 86 pointsAwkward and acidic out of bottle, but after a vigorous splash decanting and about an hour in the decanter, this smoothed out and the moderate tannins integrated. A nose of black fruits and pepper. Little on the attack with a light bodied, somewhat dilute midpalate of plum and overripe cherry. There is a bit of noticalbe alcohol on the palate and short finish. Overall not as poor as the tasting note sounds, for as a whole this made for a nice quaff with a london broil. |
