1/18/2012 - Bellissimo wrote: NRDecanted and tasted over 4+ hours. Nose while initially tight opens to show light herbs, bell pepper and red fruits. Taste lacks punch of acids up front, imparts a greenness and leaves your mouth coated with slightly bitter tannins. Granted we don't drink a lot of Cab Franc but this disappoints. |

1/2/2018 - CWilliam wrote: 91 pointsNeeded to open up for 30 minutes. Very herbal / green pepper on nose - almost to the point of thinking the bottle was corked but this blew off with 30 minutes of airtime. Cherry, blackberry and green tobacco on nose. Similar flavor profile on palate although the fruit on the palate was much bright than the nose suggested. Good structure - medium+ acidity, medium tannins and long finish. Very enjoyable and would buy again. 91-92 range. Acquired at Southern Season in Chapel Hill, NC. |

7/4/2010 - Arcturus wrote: 90 pointsDecanted 4 hours. Classic, straight forward, delicious reflection of cab franc. Enough dark fruit to balance out a solid foundation of tannins. The lack of big fruit distinguishes it from a cabernet sav. This should age well but enjoyable now. 90+ |

10/23/2010 - Bellissimo wrote: 89 pointsPopped and poured, consumed over 3 hours. Nose shows some nice herbal and graphite components. Taste is dark red fruits that are nicely restrained and some herbalness. Really nice balance between the restrained fruit and the acids. There are some sneaky firm tannins that carry from mid to a long finish that are more noticeable at hour three than at the beginning of the bottle being opened. Excellent. |

1/3/2015 - goodvitis.com Likes this wine: 91 pointsNose: mild aromatics. Cherries, orange, thyme, mushroom, stone minerality all flying above a note of oak. Palate: smooth, grainy and drying tannins, with loads of cherries and red plums. Oak is medium strength, acidity is nice but not domineering. Nice little pepper kick. Finish: the fruit is dominant, but the earthiness of the wine that is hidden on the palate emerges in the finish with classic bell peppers and celery seed. Overall a really nice wine sitting in a really nice place. |

8/23/2013 - Bellissimo wrote: NRNight one very after sitting in a glass for 45 minutes. Very aromatic: coffee, dark fruits, vanilla, campfire--wow lots going on. On the palate, dark brambly fruits, black tea bitterness, loamy wet earth. Nice and wet up front but drying tannins on the very long tail. Get a sense of the alcohol at a weird point way at the tail end. This needs a few years but I have no more. Will try to revisit tomorrow. |

7/15/2019 - wilypod Likes this wine: 90 pointsFragrant Cab Franc with pipe tobacco, dried cherry, sage and savory notes. Fruit and savor in equal measure in the mouth, some nice dark chocolate, too. Well made, free of funk or flaw, and a delight to drink. Has the tannin and fruit to go out another 3 or 4 years. Probably ideal now. |

6/18/2010 - Bellissimo wrote: 89 pointsOpened bottle and let sit open for a couple of hours. Deep dark colors with purple hues around the edges. Nose is black raspberry, tobacco, and allspice. Taste dark, tart fruit with a bit of pomegranate undertones. There is a hint of herbalness or greeness in there as well. The wine is more on the dryer side with just a little noticeable alcohol that creeps up just before the finish. All in all a very well made wine. |

2/6/2010 - Bellissimo wrote: NRFirst time having a counoise on its own; didn't really know what to expect. Color is a deep murky color with lighter edges. On the nose I get hints of strawberry up front with strong white pepper soon overtaking every other aroma. First taste thew me as to how much tannin there was. After it decanted an hour or so I'd characterize the wine as having pretty bright red fruits up front with good acidity. Mid palate is dominated by sweet tannins. Finish is LONG due to the mouth drying tannins. I don't get a lot of nuances but rather there are strong individual components. Highlight for me might be the nose; it is pretty intoxicating. |
