It is much better than my original note on 3/1/13 and the effervescent quality has been gone from every bottle since then.

Pretty much the same as last time 3/1/13 but the effervescent quality seems to be gone (at least in this bottle).

This wine was very strong and aggressive and really needed to be decanted and left standing. In the beginning it had a slight effervescent quality which I do not like in a still wine. I tried it the next day and found it had completely disappeared, so I will keep the case I just bought but I think this needs several years. This was very fruit forward with medium legs. The bouquet was tree fruit like cherry and a little plum. It was light/medium in body and the color was a beautiful ruby with good clarity. Mid palate was more cherry, plum and a little black currant. It was a little coarse in texture but by the next day it was a lot smoother. The wine finishes Medium.

2009 Conterno Fantino Barbera d'Alba Vignota

Jan & I tasted this at home. This 2009 was a very big wine with a high alcohol content of 14.5%. The bouquet nearly attacked your senses and I could feel it tickling my nose. I think it is still a little bold and a tad harsh (nearly a little brawny), so it probably needs a few more years to age. The legs were very impressive, again usually a good indication of the high alcohol. The color was a beautiful deep purple and it was very fruit forward with strong tree fruit flavors of dark cherry and ripe plum, along with strawberry jam. Mid Palate there was a fairly good balance of tannins & acidity. The finish was mid length and more of the same, but was much more subtle than the beginning. We will wait a while before we try another one to see how it ages.

Red berry, lavender and sweet basil come pouring out of the glass delighting the nose which is followed by spices and dried herbs. The front and mid-palate flow with more red flavors like cherries and raspberries. This is a well balanced wine with just the right amount of acidity and tannins. The finish is mid length and more of the same.

It is a well balanced wine with just the right amount of acidity and tannins. The finish is mid length.

This is very young, but it is going to be incredible in several years. I decanted it for two hours and left a little in the bottle to try the next day. It was even better as all the tight characteristics morphed into a nicely structured complex full bodied experience. Our kids may be enjoying some bottles of this in a few decades if we leave any.

I can’t believe I am giving this a high rating. Traditionally, this has not been one of my favorite Cabs, but always decent for the discounted price. Since we are trying to go through our old wines and cull them out, I opened the bottle expecting to find it was ready to pour out. Imagine my surprise when it looked good and tasted even better. I do not know what happened to the wine, since this is one that has never been stored properly at our Fla home over the years, but everything came together. The color was a dark purple with no bricking and it had no “heat jam”. There was dark cherry, mocha, and plum on the nose. It was medium/full bodied and the palate still had tannins, cherry, chocolate, plum, and a little coffee. The finish was medium with dark cherry and spice. This did not taste like I remember my last J Lohr (mid 80 pts).

We had this at a Chaine des Rotisseurs wine dinner. It was a deep dark cherry red with dark fruits on the nose and herbs and spice on the front palate. It had a little tobacco, leather and crushed rocks with the dark fruits mid palate. It was well balanced with a nice blend of tannin and acidity and had a good mid length finish. We enjoyed this very much.

I was surprised, it was drinking really well, but the cork completely came apart and I had to decant it. The color was a dark purple. The nose was dark fruit and tobacco. Mid-palate it was fairly balanced. The finish was short.

Jan & I just bought a half case and we had to try one. It was an excellent bottle. It was dark violet and plum and I wish I read the notes before hand. I double decanted it which it did not need. The nose was beautiful- very fruit forward. Dark cherry with plum and jam. Very well balanced and mid palate it was full of more plum, cherries, chocolate and a little vanilla. It had a very nice long finish. The only fault I could find was I like Cabs a little more full body.

This is the second bottle we tried since March 2013. I did not fully double decant this like the first one. It was excellent- dark violet in color and very fruit forward with plum and blackberry on the nose. I slowly poured it back in the bottle to take to the restaurant with us. All in all, it was open about an hour before we started drinking it. Paired very well with Brick Chicken. It was as well balanced as the last one and mid palate it was silky with cherries, vanilla, a little chocolate and leather. It had a very long finish and seemed to be more full bodied.

This is the third bottle we tried since March 2013. I think it should be drank now since this bottle seemed to be at its peak. I probably should have decanted it. As before, it was excellent- dark violet in color and very fruit forward with plum and blackberry on the nose. It was as well balanced as the last one and mid palate it was silky with cherries, vanilla, a little chocolate and leather. It had a very long finish and was full bodied.

First time we have had a bottle in a while. It was excellent, but probably need to decant it next time or open it an hour or so in advance. That is what happens when you randomly pick one from your cellar without planning on enough time before consuming.

This was a nice Walla Walla Valley 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grape. It was dark purple with dark cherry, blackberry and plum on the nose. There is also a little pepper and earth. The front palate showed tannins and acidity thru the back palate. It is medium bodied with a medium finish.

This was one of nine wines we took to K-Paul’s in New Orleans for New Year's with family and friends from Nola, CA, TN and France. The meal and service were excellent and we shared a number of wines with our server. Since it was young for one of Corison’s wines, we decanted it. The color was a medium red/purple. The nose was cherry, black cherry and plum with slight floral hints. Mid-palate showed its tannins with earth, green pepper and a hint of spice. The finish was medium and this wine will just get better with age.

We really enjoyed this wine, but I dropped it a point for the clarity. The wine was a beautiful dark ruby red, nearly garnet in color and very full-bodied, but lacking in clarity. Its nose was full of black cherries and a little plum. The lip was a light cherry showing it had a little age on it and the legs were thick giving an indication that the viscosity was relatively high which also proved to be true- it was a nice full bodied wine. The palate also picked up chocolate in the beginning and a nice acidity. It was well balanced and by mid palate you started picking up the drying sensation of the tannins which lingered through the long finish.
