2010 Fratelli Brovia Barbera d'Alba Sorì del Dragomore |
2/25/2015 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NR13.5% abv. Dark ruby/clear. Cherry cola nose. Medium bodied, grippy tannins and bright acidity. Shorter finish and noticed some residual sugar. A bit too sweet allround for me. |

2010 Vietti Barbera d'Alba Tre Vignemore |
2/25/2015 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR13.5% abv. Dark ruby/clear. Subtle, earthy nose with cedar, eucalyptus, and spice. Nose reminds me of a young bdx. Medium bodied with mellower tannins and acidity. Slightly sour finish. Quite long. Drinking nicely now. Don't think this is one to cellar. |

8/27/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR13% abv. Ruby. Hint of brett initially, slight band-aid, but then developping into attractive aroma of dried flowers, cinnamon hearts, and a hint of new oak. Have read they use barriques depending on vintage, so not sure if this was a barrique year. This wine seems bigger than other Chinon/Bourgueil, and more akin to a BDX. Grippy in the mouth. Will certainly improve with age. |

4/20/2017 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR12.5%. Nose is a bit gamey, as well as stoney. In the mouth, young and fresh. Silky body. Crunchy red fruit, bright acidity, grippy tannins, lingering finish. |

10/9/2014 - DrakkarNoir Does not like this wine: NR13% abv. Very cloudy/murky. Murkiness reminded me of freshly pressed apple juice. Nose was subtle, earthy, funky, a bit of pine. Acidity still present. Not worth the experience at ~$70. |

10/28/2014 - DrakkarNoir Does not like this wine: NR12% abv. Purple. Subtle nose of tart blackberries and tobacco. Smoky and perfumed. Light bodied. Acidity was a bit too much for me though. Tart and sour on the finish. |

8/5/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR12% abv. Ruby red. Fruit on the nose, concord grape juice, a hint of cream soda. No brett like some other recent Loire wines. Medium bodied, with tannins on the rounder side and tart acidity. Well balanced, clean and vibrant. Will benefit from 5+ yrs. |

12/8/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR13% abv. Purple like a young bdx. Nose of cigarbox, earth, and some florals. Dark fruit, but subtle and more on the tart side. Medium bodied with tannic grip. Young now but enjoyed drinking it. One of the more complex and balanced cab francs i've had. |

2012 Catherine et Pierre Breton Bourgueil Avis de Vin FortCabernet Franc more |
7/29/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR12% abv. Ruby red. Tart blackberries and cherries on the nose, wood + spice and fresh herbs as well, mint. Light bodied, no tannins, mild acidity, slight tartness - quaffable. Was drinking this chilled. Very refreshing. More like a light pinot noir than a cab franc. |

9/1/2014 - DrakkarNoir Does not like this wine: NR12% abv. 100% cab franc. Ruby & transparent. Nail polish remover on the nose was overpowering. Hints of raspberries under the VA. Lighter bodied and tart acidity in the mouth. |

6/9/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR12.5% Red with slight bricking. Very appealing nose of dried flowers, strawberries, and rhubarb. Light-medium bodied, tart, and noticeable acidity, but all nicely integrated. This was singing after an hour. |

4/23/2015 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NR12% abv. Ruby/clear. Mixed feelings.. Nose is funky to begin, becoming floral, leathery, but with some nail polish. Slight aroma of decomposing fruit. Light bodied and acidic. Herbaceous on the finish. |

5/3/2017 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NR14.6% abv. Eucalytpus and cedar dominate the nose. Full bodied, with grippy tannins and fresh acidity. A bit sweet on the finish... wild blueberries on the palate. Alcohol is nicely integrated. Unique, straddling new/old world. |

7/2/2014 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NR13.5% abv. Ruby. A nice nose of blackberry and cigar box. Medium bodied, with a slight greeness to it that reminded me of cab franc. Acidity stood out. This was surprisingly long and drinking nicely right now. Great value. |

6/26/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NRCalifornia Mavericks @ Five Sails: 13.0% abv. Floral nose, some spice, cassis. This seemed much more alive than the same vintage Dunn Napa Valley. Tannic grip still there, as well as the acidity... Drinking nicely now, but will easily last 10+ more yrs. |

6/26/2014 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NRCalifornia Mavericks @ Five Sails: 13.0% abv. Drank alongside a Dunn HM, and felt this was a meaningful step down. Nose was earthy, but muted. Soft in the mouth, with noticeable acidity. Much less tannic than HM. Dunn commented that they used 10% from Beckstoffer vineyards, with the rest HM, either estate or neighbors. I was hoping they would taste similar for value reasons, but the HM was much better in my opinion. |

3/30/2015 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NR13% abv. Dark crimson. Still a riper nose despite the difficult vintage, cassis and plum. Medium bodied, with acidity dominating in the mouth. Green tannins. Short. Reminds me of colder region new world cabs which cost a fraction of the price. |

2005 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountainmore |
5/26/2015 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NROpened this out of curiosity. This is young still, much too young. Nose a bit reticent, but it's dark, rocky, liquorice, some cut flowers and hint of new oak. Tannic beast still, grippy and long. A bit of a brute. Wait.... |

2001 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic HillDiamond Mountain more |
6/26/2014 - DrakkarNoir Likes this wine: NRCalifornia Mavericks @ Five Sails: 13.5% abv. A spicy, perfumy, floral nose. Tart and tannic in the mouth. I read given the ash in the soil and south facing vineyards, these can be dense and powerful, and while this was certainly leaning that way, it was still balanced. Preferred this vs the 01 Red Rock Terrace, which was quite different despite being only 60ft away. |

6/26/2014 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NRCalifornia Mavericks @ Five Sails: 13.5% abv. Wasn't getting much on the nose... Oak and some floral. Slight tartness. Wasn't a very interesting wine tonight. Iron in the soil + steep/north facing vineyard supposed to result in a more elegant wine, which might explain why it was overpowered by the Volcanic Hill drunk alongside. |

2007 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Lot No. 1 Napa Valleymore |
10/16/2014 - DrakkarNoir wrote: NR15% abv. Purple with a fair bit of sediment. Blueberries and cedar dominate the nose. Tannins very subtle, but some zippy acidity made this taste quite fresh. I think the acidity saves this wine. Better than I expected given the high alcohol. |
