This second bottle was also in great shape. Best as it warmed to near room temp. A substantial and complex new world Chard that is more than just a summer sipper. I can't afford Grand Cru White Burg, but I imagine this probably delivers something close, and at only $6/bottle from auction. Thoroughly enjoyed these two bottles, but now they are gone :(

Again, another Tercero white that blossoms as it warms to room temp. This Roussane was loaded with flavors and textures, a fascinating white that deserves attention and delivers enjoyment as well. These off-the-beaten-path Tercero whites are a journey for the wine lover who is tired of the "usual" varieties.

Very elevated VA on this bottle, well beyond my tolerance threshold. Maybe this was better in its youth, but the fruit has probably receded and this point and this is undrinkable. Maybe the other bottle will show better.

Seemed pretty tight on the pop 'n pour and it fleshed out a bit as the evening went on. Still, this never really fully unwound, even the next evening (I saved about a glass under vacu-vin). Compared to the 2015 version I tried a few days earlier, this seemed more structured, with less fruit presence, but still Au Bon Climat-like. As I described the 2015, this seemed like an Au Bon Climat Pinot with a RRV flavor profile (which it is!). And that's a very good thing. I still think this needs a bit more time to flesh out. Note to self - wait until 2027+ to open the next bottle.

Really good Barbera character showing through, but with California sunshine ripeness on display. Nice balance, no rough edges - a crowd-pleasing easy drinker with enough interest for the wine geek. Good Cal-Ital are hard to find, but this is one of them. Too bad they decided to end production.

Opened this after a bottle of the 2006 Keefer Ranch RRV and this absolutely outclassed it. This is aging beautifully and displays the attractive side of RRV Pinot, with excellent balance, good depth of fruit, and even some "freshness". Great mouthfeel and focus as well. The Keefer Ranch seemed clunky and disjointed in comparison. So sad to have had only this one bottle. RRV Pinot done right.

This wasn't terrible, but I think this is good example of RRV Pinot that is not aging well. VA is elevated and a little distracting, the candied fruit character is not particularly attractive, and the alcohol sticks out a bit. Opened a bottle of the 2006 Small Vines RRV right after this and the contrast between the two was stark - the Small Vines has the same RRV flavor profile, but has aged beautifully and just does everything better.

Generous fruit, more easy-drinking than I anticipated -- seems to be in a good place right now. Seems much younger than 12+ years old. Don't have much experience with Aglianico, so I was expecting more of a Tuscan type red, but this was more new-worldish and didn't seem distinctly Italian like Sangio and Nebbiolo tend to be. Still, a very good red in a good spot right now.

Perfect cork condition, with the staining only at the very bottle of the cork.
Interesting take on Napa Cabernet. Still very young tasting - I blinded my wife on this and she thought it to be a recent vintage. Indeed, this does not show much aged character at all. Acidity is higher than usual for Napa Cab, but not screechy. Felt slightly out of place, actually, with this level of ripeness, but was integrated pretty well. Heat was not a problem, but body from the high alcohol was clearly on display. No overt oak that I could tell - much appreciated - just a pure fruit display. Not the most complex, but the flavor profile was Napa in a good way. Actually went very well with tortellini in a rich cream sauce with pancetta. Did not last long between my wife and myself.

Love what Larry is doing with this variety. I loved the 2020 and this 2021 is very similar. Ripe enough to not be too "green", but not enough that the Cab Franc character is ripened out. Good balancing acidity, some tannin - great structure to help this develop for a good long time.

Exactly what one would expect from Jim Clendenon and RRV fruit - very much like Au Bon Climat Pinot but with distinctive RRV flavor profile. Was pretty restrained at first but blossomed as it was exposed to air, showing some lovely Pinot fruit with medium ripeness. Plenty of structure from the ample acidity and more-than-usual-for-Pinot tannin. A winner that should continue to develop for many years to come.

Saw a 3-bottle lot of these for nothing at auction and figured I'd pick these up to see what 21 year old cheap Bordeaux under screw cap (white plastic liner) would be like. I think the screw cap did its thing pretty well, as this was tasting much younger than one would think for a wine this age. This tasted like cheap Bordeaux, with some tannin and light fruit lacking depth. Was not bad, actually, and paired acceptably well with a Panda Express meal. Held up well the second evening after storing in the wine fridge overnight with just the screw cap back on. Nothing to get excited about, but a fun experiment for < $4USD per bottle.

Dark, deep golden color - almost orange. Not very appetizing, really, but I digress.
This was a deep and rich chard, complex, long, and balanced. Integrated in a way that only age can bring. Not what would I would call youthful, but not exhibiting its age in a mature way. This should hold for a while yet.

Recent auction purchase (1 case, split between my brother and me).
Very hard cork made the extraction using an Ah-So a very strenuous task. Took a lot of elbow grease, but finally got it out in one piece, with staining only about 1/5th up from the bottom of the cork. In any case, this bottle showed mature Sangio fruit mostly in a tertiary stage at this point. More savory than fruit notes, with silky mouthfeel. Depth was a bit lacking, but it did seem to gain some weight with continued air exposure. Probably slightly past peak based on this bottle, but a very nice drink that should pair well with many pasta dishes. We'll see how the other bottles show.

This bottle was drinkable, but seemed well past prime. Elevated VA on the attack, but then some dull Pinot fruit that wasn't terrible, but wasn't very enjoyable either. Kind of dull and flat. Probably a good idea to drink these up if you have any left.

Flavorful, crisp acidity, good weight but not heavy. Kind of a citrus flavor profile - probably on the grapefruit spectrum with some bitter phenolic notes. This was very good at fridge temp but showed more at room temp (70F) and was still refreshing. My wife and I are really enjoying going through all of these interesting Tercero whites.

This bottle showed a vestige of seepage from long ago along the sides and top of the cork (and a little along the side of the bottle, too). This bottle did seem more advanced, but not oxidized. The "Rutherford dust" seemed to be more pronounced, with less fruit. In any case, this was very enjoyable with Pizza.

Fairly light and bright, but with a good focused core of fruit. Sneaky depth. Nothing notable about tannin level, as it's not sticking out in any way but is there if you're looking for it. Acidity is elevated, though I wouldn't know if it has been "acidified" as a previous note suggests. Flavor profile is not very distinctive other than it being kind of "red-fruited". There is some Cali sunshine to this wine, but this is clearly more of an old-world style. This was Okay on its own, but is really more of a food wine. Should go very well with many different dishes - this bottle went very well with mashed potatoes and ham Easter leftovers.
