WOTN in an impressive lineup.
Garnet color and rich nose raised expectations and this wine did not disappoint. Dark fruit with a massive cherry bomb, a hint of cocoa and a sweet, long finish.
Lots of life ahead and a two hour decant seemed about right.

Mild on the nose, but the fruits certainly come through. On the palate, you get a jumble of fruits flavors with the berries coming through. Perhaps a little sharp on the acidity- could probably do with waiting a year or two.

active and vibrant the first evening
but a big contrast to the 1970'-1980's that we had before
nevertheless pretty darn good
2nd day not much happening so i will begin to drink up earlier vintages

Fully mature notes of leather and cedar alongside rich sweet ripe dark fruit. There are pronounced but pleasing oak and vanilla here. The structure is quite soft, though it masked by the massive fruit. Great wine. Long with moderate complexity. Drink now, though will last another 5 years or more.

14 months since my last bottle. This continues to drink at peak with incredible balance. Up front striking bright citrus fruit that is well judged and focused. The finish is long. For me, this is one of the best white wines made in North America. Has anyone tried Screaming Eagle’s sauv blanc as well? This probably will drink well for a decade but I wouldn’t push it. Best consumed within the next 4-6 years. Revisit 2025

Deep cab made by Philip Melka and he’s again done a great job making a fruit forward, delicious wine. BlackBerry, cherry, with some floral notes but the balance here is phenomenal as usual. Wish I had more of this one.

Fragrant nose of red licorice and kirsch. Voluptuous and saturated without feeling too heavy. A little bit of heat but it quickly fades into the background. Chocolate ganache and stewed blueberry flavors. Medium complexity and medium finish. Enjoyable

Cherry to the rim. Notes of black fruit. After one hour not much in the way of fruit or finish. After two hour decant huge black and red fruits drying as it crosses the palate to a medium finish. For those who like a fruit bomb drink now. I will wait at least 3 years to allow the fruit become wine and the tannins to subside. Also hoping the finish will improve with age

Decanted in Reidel Cabernet decanter and consumed over 3 hours with dinner. Stunning complex bouquet immediately after pouring into the glass. Gobs of black fruits, licorice, dark chocolate and spices. Seamless rich texture on the palate with almost no perceptible tannins. Long, mineral and spice tinged finish. Exceptional the first 30 minutes before it quickly fell apart and leveled off the rest of the evening to show more alcohol and simpler notes with disjointed acidity. The table agreed. Highly recommend not decanting. At peak, IMO.

Marvin (WineBurrowingWombat) Visits Minnesota; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Jason's House): OK....so trying to decide what to open, and Marvin suggested a Dana.....because Lotus is my favorite, and 13 is one of the "older" vintages, I decided to try it! I confess some apprehension due to how tannic the 13 vintage was, and thought rough tannins and possibly still closed down. However, I was pleasantly surprised!

TN: Lots of blue and black fruit on the nose with some white flower, chocolate and tobacco, coupled with notes os mocha, graphite, earth and cedar. Palate exploded with blue, black and red fruit in a cornucopia of flavors, add dark and milk chocolate, some vanilla, some earth, sweet tobacco and hints of leather, pencil and oak, and you have an awesome tasting experience! 95+ and certainly no hurry...in fact, it should improve as tertiary flavors become more pronounced and more balanced with the fruit (which dominates at the moment!)

Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: Ripe and rich black currants, a core of deep earthiness, pleasantly new spiced oak, and big ripe blueberries. With some time, gracefully aged characteristics of the fruit show a bit more (not stewed or plum notes, but more of polished integration), along with a gentle milk chocolate.

P: Ripe, layered dark red fruits, similar black currants from the nose, a light silvery graphite coating on scattered tree bark on a landslide of dark earth. Shiny minerals with a touch of savoriness on the finish. Better integration with some time, making for a pleasurably soft and smooth textural feel on the palate.

Drinking well now and should soften up any rough edges that this wine may have now. May also be better if served closer to cellar temp.

From my own cellar. Decanted over cocktails, which was good become it took a bit of time to open up in the glass. A delicious blend of plum, currant, and black fruit. Beautifully balanced and integrated tannins. Long, long finish. Will age well for decades to come.

Decanted over cocktails. Superb Napa cab with well-balanced yet intense dark fruit. Umami notes add usual with this winery. Great viscosity and mouth feel. Bravo!

Stunning and beautifully balanced. Intense with fine tannins and long finish. I guess with tine the tannins will further soften but I’m not sure it’s worth the wait as so good now

Pretty decent PnP. Well integrated oak. Rich not gawdy and plenty of fruit.

Mid-bottle was mostly miss. The oak tasted off or the sweetness was off the charts.

Last third of the bottle all flavors (oak, spice, fruit) came to a beautiful peace. All the bad qualities of mid-bottle went away and only the best qualities remained. Very nice. Effortless balance.

Cork was fine, and decanted for about 2.5 hours, and drunk over the next 3. Three drinkers, all had the same opinion.

It doesn’t strike me as a Sauvignon Blanc. Rich and lush and borderline sweet. To be fair, there’s a lot of peach and Anjou flavor but the fruit is borderline over ripe.

However, this along w the Lotus are so over rated. Nice and mellow, but a bit too monolithic and hollow for my old world palette. Not my style but somewhat easy to drink, 92/93 depending on my mood.

The ABV of 15.2% is obnoxious. Same w the Lotus. Didn't make me feel good, and that for me is what wine is about. Feeling good! And of course consuming with good friends and loved ones. Certainly one glass is plenty and to be shared, I would not recommend drinking more than a glass for fear of a hangover that will last a week!

Morlet tasting visited after blew this off the table.

Coming off self imposed hiatus—first reds in over a month, decided to do old(er) and too young to test my taste buds. 08 Dana Lotus & 19 Addax Lynne.

Popped and into the decanter, trial sips with a small pour at 30 min for an early impression. Some bricking already apparent, initial nose was more earth than fruit, black tea, dried tobacco, menthol, peppercorn, on the palate, a bit of dried black fruit, red berries, sour red cherry, more black tea. Tannins still provided a pucker on a medium finish, though it seems air may help, time will tell.

Over the course of 4 hr drinking window, the notes remained constant, somewhat simplistic, but the air did indeed tame the tannic bite on the back end. This was a well made wine, just not in my wheelhouse. Nevertheless, this was outclassed by a ‘19 Addax Lynne with 4hrs of air.

Tasted blind. Fruit of gooseberry, lychee and a boatload of peppermint and finely integrated oak. Soft texture with just a bit of tannin adding structure. Otherwise round and intense with crisp, fresh acidity and incredible presence. Once again an outstanding bottle with hardly any perceptible aging progression over the last 4 years. Could be a Pavillon Blanc-like wine for the decades... We paired this against a SB from Lail (PNV Henry VIII 2016) and the Dana outshone that easily, in my view.
