Actually a wonderful wine. (especially for the price, but even beyond that). Pineapple and other tropical notes, a touch of honey. The faintest note of butter in the finish. A bit more body that works well. Fresh, Bright and acidic. I'll look for it again.

Noticeably a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc: pale lemon color; pronounced and pungent aromas and flavors of gooseberries, asparagus, tart grapefruit, cut grass, and sour green apple, underscored with a salty vein of minerality; fresh acidity; and a mouth watering finish. Balanced, lively, and intense with a wide range of complex fruits and mineral influence.

pale lemon colour, shiny; good. nose: citrus notes - lemon, lime plus vegetal aromas grass/asparagus. some minerality. taste: high acidity; some R.S. present - gives more body. ripe lemon, nectarine; some herbal - geranium notes. medium (+) finish. Too much sugar. but drinks well anyway.

I enjoyed this NZ sauvignon blanc. Don’t agree with the 80 rating from someone else on cellar tracker. I’ll agree with wine searcher’s range of 85-89. The wine is nothing special but perfect for a warm summer afternoon with friends. Well priced.

Grapefruit juice with alcohol masquerading as wine. Great for a cocktail party but not for the diner table. And it was 20 bucks. Avoid. ADDENDUM: Three days later. This is (only) slightly better as some of the acidity/sourness has softened slightly, although my assessment is unchanged.

On a cloudy afternoon, one monochromatic label grabbed my attention-brutally representative of my current mid-work-week mood: Gray, morose, achromatic, banal.

I screwed off the bottle cap with the same gusto I exhibited only minutes earlier when closing my final conference call for the day, and away I went— pouring my daily dose of a self prescribed flaxen anxiolytic.

I prayed, “oh Dionysus, please let me forget about my sins—my rhythmically repeated use of the word ‘um’ during the 2pm meeting with senior leadership…the document I agreed to review before 7am tomorrow…the glaringly obvious typo on the first slide of my presentation”…

As I sipped to interrupt my rumination, I couldn’t help but to exclaim “oh, this is yummy!” Yummy-a word I hadn’t used to describe any elixir since my first sip of a Mai Thai at a younger age.

Dionysus at the wheel of my fanciful ship, had answered my prayers with a trip -a needed vacation- to a tropical island filled with citrus trees growing from the white peach-fragranced sandy beaches. A beautiful island native, wearing only a necklace made of gooseberries, smiled as she welcomed me with gifts- a fragrant pineapple in one hand and a Mai Thai drink in the other.

Unbeknownst to my conscious self, my
vacationing psyche had already consumed more than half of the bottle. “This needs to be my last glass” I justified while pouring more of the acidic fruit punch. Sadly, It wasn’t.

As the final sips of the bottle magically found their way to my welcoming mouth, Dionysus appeared again, this time with his manipulative sister Persephone. Together they urged me to open yet another bottle and return to the ship for more adventure. As I pondered my destiny, I was awoken by familiar sounds in the distance—were these the songs of the illusive Sirens? Compelled to investigate, I moved closer to the ringing.

Unexpectedly, I exited the tropical dream world and rapidly reentered the harsh reality of the current; I had been lured by the modern day Sirens—coworkers frantically pinging me on Microsoft teams—trying to lure me to a late evening adventure of another sort.

Well done grayrock reserve, for you had transported me to a dreamy short vacation on a far off tropical island, only to be pummeled back to reality by the mid-week, morose, gray rock prominently featured on your label.

Well-balanced and mostly dry, with notes of pear, apple, grapefruit, and melon. Acidity noticeable, but not overly so. Floral, but not too fruity, not too sweet. Good value.
