2023 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Altenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken #7Mosel Saar Ruwer more |
5/27/2024 - pemazel Likes this wine: 91 pointsYes, yes, you are right: much too young, infanticide. But also youthful spring in a glass, makes you happy and haven't we all bottles in our cellar which are too old? |

User friendly, energetic, delicious, with plenty of acidity but not rip your enamel off. From the 2018 vintage this is still very Falkenstein in style. Plenty of acidity and energy despite the hot vintage. I could drink these all day. |

5/24/2024 - bkomisar Likes this wine: 93 pointsSlight apple, citrus, and wet stone notes on the nose. Mineral, peach, and loads of citrus on the palate. Light body that finishes zippy and dry. Very dynamic flavors and easy drinking! |

5/18/2024 - aagrawal wrote: 94 pointsCoravin. Pale lemon yellow; aromatic, lemon-lime, minerally, citrus oil, white flowers; palate is richly textured but with very high acidity which gives this great freshness, lemon-lime, some richer white fruits, low 7.5% alcohol; long finish. Exceptional riesling, very fresh auslese, almost with the purity and concentration of an Eiswein. Really lovely. Obviously these will age forever, but I drank all of mine young... 94 |

5/11/2024 - coremill wrote: 90 pointsAP #4, which I think makes this Onkel Peter, even though Falkenstein hadn't yet started including the site names on the labels yet. Juicy, light, zippy, hardly any feel of extract but a good intensity of tart fruit. Noticeable sugar, seems a bit more Kabinetty than Feinharby. Better on Day 1 than Day 2. I don't see this being a long ager due to the lack of density. Paired nicely with asparagus soup. |

My first time trying this rare bottling, side by side with the Meyer Nepal. This has slightly higher acidity and more minerally, less lemon than the Meyer Nepal. 93-94 |

5/9/2024 - Richard P Howden wrote: 93 pointsPear, and what is that - plum? on the nose. A little lemon and honey as well. Arresting. Medium weight, bright pear peach fruit on the palate. Starts with some sweet pear but that quickly slips to tart lemon. Long finish. Better balance and more acid that I was expecting for a '22 but this is Falkenstein after all. Wow, this is delicious. A big step up from the Schaefer and Ludes. |

5/5/2024 - HU wrote: 94 pointsI have yet to taste it. Mosel Fine Wines rates it 94 ( which I copied here ) and writes: "The 2022er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spatlese Feinherb Palm (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from different small parcels on the western side of the vineyard and was fermented down to off-dry levels of residual sugar. Slightly reductive at first, this quickly opens up to reveal beautiful notes of vineyard peach, Conference pear, minty herbs, and stone fruits. The wine proves incredibly creamy and refined on the delicately smooth and beautifully refined palate. The finish is more focused as zesty elements come through. Aromatic and fruity flavors are wrapped into fine spices and herbal elements in the after-taste. Drink: 2027 - 2042." |

4/30/2024 - viniferatu Likes this wine: NRpeppery, herbal, brothy... petrichor and scallops, lifted flowers, peach and apple, underripe melon... this coats and grips, shimmering minerality and mouthwatering salinity are so engaging... bracing, dense and mineral finish, this is so distinctive. Not for everyone, that's for sure, this is very trocken. Should be worth following at least another 5 years. |

4/30/2024 - viniferatu Likes this wine: NRiris, stone dust, crunchy apricot, apple, peppery herbs... gorgeous fruit attack, this is probably the most fruity Mutter Anna I've ever tried, but it quickly turns to intense acidity and stones, this is classic Falkenstein trocken, which means maybe too trocken for some. I love it. Should be worth following at least 5 more years. Get some oysters? |

4/26/2024 - CADomer Likes this wine: 94 pointsI have been thinking of my friends in the Saar a lot lately, but none more than Lars Carlberg and the father and son duo Erich and Johannes Weber. The frost damage there has been significant these last few days and they are left picking up the pieces of what was looking like a very promising vintage. There is still plenty of time to make special wines in 2024, but the quantities will be severely reduced and logistical complications will surely arise. |
