I have been a long time fan of this producer and while some of the wines can be funky due to the winemaking philosophy and process, they've always been interesting. This one is actually awful and I still have 3 more bottles in my cellar, and am highly doubtful more time is going to do anything for it. It is highly astringent, lacking fruit character, and incredibly "stemmy". First time I've ever been disappointed by a PM wine, and they never should have let this one out the door. Not often I call a wine undrinkable, but this one is.

Bought 12 bottles because of good reviews on auction: looked like my kind of wine. Stored them 1 month after transportation and opend 3 days ago: Mhhhh, there is basically nothing of the described characteristic in other reviews -basically a complete flat and absolutly closed wine. On second day basically the same -no fruit, no oak, quite some acidity but also nice tannins. Other than that nothing. On day three it opend up and showed some differencies to previois days. So I think catched the wine in a deep and will wait another year or so to open the next bottle.

Other readers may want to wait a bit before they pop the next one.

OK. This was the last bottle of spoof that I ever bought. I was caught up by the score and hadn't yet realized where my palate was heading. With that said, this is archetypical modern homogenized red Bordeaux type wine that can be had on five continents, and gets really high scores from numerous myriad "professional" wine critics. My wife asked for a red wine tonight, something like a 2008 Jordan would have been perfect. Well I was boxing these for the barter holler and took a chance and thought Julie would like it. Her description:

-a little red wine
-a little cigar ash tray
-a little saltwater
-a little flour/roux to hold it together

I told her she has made the perfect description for my mind's eye Modern spoofy wine.

12/4/2013 6:06:00 PM - I think you might have got a bad bottle. I drank one three weeks ago. It's not the best wine in the world, but certainly nothing close to what you described here. The fruit was definitely there, moderate complexity, tannin was present but not harsh . The acidity was a bit high. It's somewhat similar to other 2008 bordeaux I had in the past. It's not as good as those great vintages, but nothing disappointing.
