  • 2016 Château du Retout

And here it goes again, such a lovely Haut Medoc which punches himself up on a higher level! First of 12, on opening p&p a bit closed but followed over the next 7 days! (Vacuum and fridge - as l always do) Got better and better and still on last day no sign of tiredness. Have to admit from intensity, its not the blockbuster. But I like the puristic way of this CS driven wine. Hold or give a loooong decant

  • 2017 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

I gave 93 points to a (basic) Barbaresco of a semi-good vintage from Italy where I have like 40 pc in my cellar - compared to 1000+ btl of bordeaux. I rarely score over 92, thetefore only if it touches me. And this does. The nose is full of strawberries, herbes and roses, the acidity is quite present but goes so well with the tannins and fruit, there is a nice berry sweetness so together there is a incredible balance and even energy. Incredibly energy with minerality and berry sweetness, this is it!!! How even was 2016?!?
Its getting better with age? More than happy if so, but really ready to business. Hold or drink. No!! drink now if enough bottles :-) Only 4 left

  • 2015 Château du Retout

From this wine I have the most bottles in my cellar. Never disapoints me (04, 05, 10, 15, 16, 18) so far and probably will (20, 22). All what I expect from bdx left bank is here and for a price which is more than fair, even cheap. Has the potential to age in general and becomes even more attractive with the years for me as I like those aromas. And du retout develops them really nicely and delivers every time. Actually it needs cellaring.
OK; you can not expect this refined, sophisticated and memoriable experiences as from Pauillac, St. Julien or St. Estèphe Grand Crus -but hey, quite close. For me more than Exceptionnel (it is "only" Cru bourgeois supérior)
