Medium to deep ruby colorless rim. Intense aroma of violet, ripe blackberry, graphite, sweet spices, liquorice, toasty wood, some espresso and leather notes too. Supreme concentration yet perfectly balanced by its refreshing acidity. Great focus and long. 98+

Nice wine here. Pop and pour. Nose of dark fruit, blue/blackberry, espresso, and some soil. Palate is lighter in feel but not from being elegant. Just seems the midpalate is lacking a bit. Nice Finnish. Firm tannins. May be a bit hot on the finish.

10/18/2018 8:48:00 AM - Didn’t strike me as a long term ager. Tannin and midpalate just didn’t seem so. Still very good wine, so don’t take that as a diss. I’ll probably let my other 5 bottles sit for a few years.

Zurich Supper Club Rides Again...in London (CVA, Andrew, Paolo...missing Benoit...) (67 Pall Mall - London, UK): One of my contributions for the evening, drank next to 2005 Hundred Acre Kayli Morgan as the California flight. Decanted and rebottled prior to coming to the restaurant, was open about 2 hours prior to drinking. A sentimental favorite, had my 08s lost in a "cellar accident", these bottles were purchased directly from Bruce Phillips (a gracious offer..) as replacements. Good to open this bottle with a great group of friends.

Dark ruby color. Elegant and expressive nose of dark fruits, cassis, graphite. Palate showing black raspberry, plum, pine/forest floor, herbs, licorice. Silky texture, secondary notes of mocha. Tannins are smoothed. Full bodied, long finish.

Classic California Cab, as good as it gets...I have waited on these bottles as VHR (in my experience) is tannic in its youth, the age has softend the wine as expected. This was the inaugural vintage, one can speculate they are going to keep getting better over time. At 10 years old, this is great, will go 20+ years if wanting to cellar. WOTN for some in our group - our London somms loved this...not may bottles of VHR make it to Europe...

Too bad there is not more available.

2013 Christopher Tynan Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines Meleagris Gallopavo

Napa Valley more

This wine has certainly lived up to my expectations! Dark black and blue with purple and fruits that match the color profile, including Black and Blueberry, and plum with a spice I can't put my finger (or nose) on. Earth and mineral notes mid-palate and a finish that goes on and on. This is a pure example of Cabernet at its best. Interestingly, with a short decant, it was open for business. Throughout my tasting, this was such a pleasure to drink.

Chris Tynan's signature masterpiece Cabernet from The Meleagris Gallopavo Vineyard has its own style, its own profile and its own taste and it is amazing. This is very different from other wines that I like, and this has it all. Too bad there is none left to purchase!

Was going to open the 2013. How long should I decant this? I imagine pop and pour would be short changing this wine's capability.

    Thanks.

2013 Abreu Rothwell Hyde

St. Helena Red Bordeaux Blend more

Big fan of Abreu wines and haven’t touched my 13’s yet, but was curious how the Rothwell Hyde wine would taste from such a great vintage. I’ve had the 12 Rothwell, which was good, but not as food as the 2010. I decided to decant this for 6 hours prior to consuming. The palate flavors and structure were all Abreu. Loved it! But the initial aroma on the nose was a little too pruney for me. This is always a nose profile that is off-putting to me. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed in the overall experience... so much so that I didn’t finish the bottle. The following night, I didn’t expect anything much from the last glass. Hold on! This was much better. That pruney note was gone and the tannins were a bit more mellow. This is a great wine now! Much happier. Will buy more.
