My fourth tasting of this wine and vintage; 12 mm of wine penetration into the cork, which, by the way, has a lot of spice in it, like cinnamon, cloves and cardamom; there is considerable yeast in the nose; opened, vinturied and tasted within 10 minutes at room temperature, in this case 25 degrees C; the body of the wine is medium to full and in some respects it tastes more like a pinot than a cab; the sweetness is tolerably well integrated, although it has a way to go; the long finish retains its slightly bitter Nachgeschmack (aftertaste); the earlier recommendation of pairing with red meat or cheese remains; even though Costco marks this particular wine/vintage down consistently, you can get decidedly better Cabs for the same money

Solid CF, nice pepper notes in the nose and on the palette.

Decanted about an hour. Deep ruby color. Black cherry and oak on the nose. Expect this to be a little hot. Med acid, med plus alcohol, black cherry and cocoa coupled with still firm tannins. Long finish. Drink dates indicate wheelhouse is now but I think I need to leave my last bottle for a few more years and see.

This bottle at least, has entered the Hibernation period. PNP through Venturi, very closed. Austere. Some gravel, cigar box and hints of black raspberry, but far more acid than fruit. Capped with Argon, second day still closed. Third day ever so slightly better, some blackberry and black cherry eeking through, but based solely on this bottle, I'm afriad we're in for a long winter (decade). No rating.

12/24/2020 8:17:00 PM - Update, Day 4: Poured through a Venturi again and it reminded me, in a vague way of the Cos I used to quaff in grad school in the mid 80's. It's obtained slightly more black fruit, but none of the luscious cassis that defines the ripe Cos.
The irony is that when I was working my way through grad school, towards my Comp Sci Masters, with programming jobs in the summer, I was able to afford the under $20 bottles of Cos, Lynch Bage, Pichon Baron, Ducru, Sociando Mallet, etc. But now that I'm an accomplished SW Engineering Executive, I can't afford the $250+ that those Super Seconds demand now. Sigh.

It has a lovely smell of forest, bark, and brand new fresh batteries. But, the taste is very short lived and not very complex. Reminds me of a simple girl that smells really nice but lacks conversation intelligence.

Started in mineral and finished fruit forward. Not as complex as anticipated or wanted. Nice tempered dark fruits and schist minerals, short finish. There is better to be found at the level this bottle wants to play.
