3/25/2023 - Quiller wrote: 89 pointsOpened, poured and let sit about 40 min. Then: Cool blue fruit on the nose and on the first sip. Tannins not noticeable until about 1/2 hr after first sip. Acidity OK. Mouthfeel somewhat soft/mellow. Taste stays with cool blue fruit; doesn't change, fairly monotone. Fairly short finish. At noted, about 1/2 hour after first sip it gets a little grippy and shortens the finish a bit. No particular cabernet profile. Pleasant wine and sort of like the blue fruit for a change, but expected more. I have several more of these and based on this bottle, will look to drink them more near term. |

9/15/2022 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 91 pointsPNP but consumed over two hours. Predominately black cherry, leather and tobacco flavors delivered on a medium mouthfeel with a silky texture. Classic Montelena presentation with many years of life ahead. Recommend a two hour decant if drinking currently.

2012 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private ReserveNapa Valley more |
12/19/2020 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 94 pointsDecanted for two hours and consumed over the following three without significant change over the evening. Dark and inky in the glass with aromas of dark fruit, toasted bread and violets. A striking number of flavors were present including black fruits, chocolate, baking spice, caramel, cocoa and rosemary. Rich and brooding with supple and well-integrated tannins. Sophisticated, lush, appealing and polished with a generous, expansive finish. Mature, but with many years of life remaining. Exquisite!

4/21/2021 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 92 pointsI generally like to age Arrowood cabs, but so glad I made an exception in this case. Slow ox for two hours and consumed over two days. Deep, dark purple in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits, violets and toasted bread. Flavors of black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and licorice. Thick, round and full mouthfeel. Polished and reasonably balanced at this young age with a smooth, memorable finish. This wine competes with cabs at twice the price and outshines many.

2016 Purlieu Cabernet Sauvignon Le PichNapa Valley more |
10/13/2019 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 93 pointsRated 94 points by RP. Wonderful cab served at my BD dinner with family. Decanted for an hour plus and consumed over the following two. Dark, almost black in the glass. Violets, toasted bread and rose petal aromas with elements of plum, cassis and chocolate weaving through. Flavors included both blue and black fruits, vanilla, anise, dark chocolate and cinnamon delivered on a round and rich mouthfeel with no rough edges. Polished, silky, elegant and appealing texture finishing generously and lingering for 30+ seconds. The complete package and an excellent QPR.

2017 Franciscan Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Monterey County Napa CountyCalifornia more |
12/3/2019 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 88 pointsDecent entry-level cab with the majority of fruit sourced from Monterrey County with a smaller amount from Napa County. Slow ox for an hour. Garnet red in the glass. Aromas of petrol, violets and licorice that carried to the palate while adding a distinct raisin element along with tart cherry. Reasonably well-balanced and approachable with a short to medium finish.

2013 Whitehall Lane Cabernet Sauvignon Leonardini EstateNapa Valley more |
10/19/2019 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 92 pointsClassic Cali cab. Decanted for an hour and a half and probably should have doubled that time. Initially palate was dominated by anise and baking spices before revealing some layered complexity three hours after opening. Black pepper, chocolate, black and blue fruits with just a hint of cedar. Medium-bodied, polished, elegant and refined with a moderately-long finish. Has a long life ahead. Great wine!

4/1/2018 - Tahlequahdave1972 wrote: NROh, to know when to open a wine or to continue to let it rest. This bottle was allowed to slow ox for an hour before being poured. Looking back, should have been decanted for several hours before drinking. Wonderful, classic nose of dark fruits, cassis, vanilla and fig. Restrained flavors of cherry, plum, chocolate, cedar, coffee, dark pepper and cocoa. Light, sublime mouthfeel as none of the elements had come together, leaving the impression that the wine was watery, unresolved and didn't have an idea what it wanted to be. The last few sips were much more cabernet-like, leading us to believe we didn't give the wine a fair chance by consuming so quickly. I'll hold off rating this wine while recommending that additional bottles lay down for several more years. There must be potential here when rated 93 points by JS and 95 points by AG.

2012 Chateau Montelena Petite SirahNapa Valley more |
6/16/2017 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 91 pointsRuth's Chris Taste Maker Dinner paired with a chocolate dacquoise torte. Seldom promoted as a Montelena varietal, this wine was a fitting and tasty end to a night of great food and wine. The petite sirah presented a nose of sweet perfume and a hint of butterscotch. A mouthful of plum, black cherry, fig and dark chocolate was followed by a short, smooth and fully integrated finish. Yummie!

2/2/2018 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 92 pointsThe wine was decanted for an hour and consumed over the next two. Aromas of red fruit and licorice, eucalyptus, cassis and floral notes. Flavors were expressive and included cherry, black fruits, coffee, dark pepper and hints of raspberry and tobacco. A medium mouthfeel that bordered on rich with an appealing, silky texture that was fully resolved and balanced. Finish was sustained, smooth and lingering. This wine is in a very good place and the drinking window is open. An exquisite, lovely offering. Excellent Cali cabernet. 92+

8/24/2017 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 93 pointsNo doubting the quality and drinkability of this offering. Aerated but not decanted. Pale yellow color. Tropical notes on the nose with additional lemon, pineapple and honeysuckle elements. Flavors follow the nose while adding green apples, pears and wet stone nuances. Medium full body with a pleasing, flavorful, lingering finish. In my never ending search for quality California chardonnay, this straight forward entry checks all the boxes. Agree with James Suckling: 93 points. Wonderful! I'll be getting more...

2014 Oberon Cabernet SauvignonNapa County more |
4/17/2017 - Tahlequahdave1972 wrote: 88 pointsPretty light for a Napa cab, I could not pinpoint any obvious flaws or extreme praise specific to this wine. The nose was appealing, the flavor profile was balanced with good fruit, some acidity and solid tannins. Easy drinking, almost silky in texture. Not an overpowering "big" cabernet but approachable and pleasing, especially at this price point.

2009 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Countymore |
6/28/2017 - Tahlequahdave1972 Likes this wine: 92 pointsI'm probably going against the flow when it comes to this wine, but this cabernet, I believe, was the last produced by Dick Arrowood at his namesake winery in Sonoma. The wine was aerated and decanted for an hour plus. Color was deep dark purple, almost black. The nose offered aromas of pepper, blackberry, plum and floral notes. A full mouth feel with cherry, boysenberry, raspberry, earth, vanilla and graphite on the palate. All elements came together after 30 minutes in the glass. Beautifully balanced with sufficient tannic structure, oak in the right measure and alcohol residing quietly in the background. This wine reminded me of the reserve bottlings from this producer that are made to age 20 years. Wonderful! Ready to drink.

3/25/2023 8:48:00 PM - Agree with the need for patience with Dick Arrowood red wines. 10 years minimum with longer waits for premium cabernets. Would love the 1993 cab today a real winner!
