Smoke, apple/pear, herbaceous, box bush, flinty and mineraly notes on the nose. On the palate very concentrated - apple and elderflower, a bit of pith, more smoke. Med + acid, juicy long finish, saline at the end. Unique and rare!

Despite decanting for over 2h, the wine was extremely thin on the nose - a shadow of what it could have been. The palate was overwhelmingly acidic, reminiscent of citrus acid. Quite unpleasant. In my view, a flawed bottle.

1/5/2020 3:46:00 PM - I am extremely familiar with Musar. It ranks amongst my favourite producers, rated 100/100 (2002, 2003 for example). My review was a polite way of saying it was not much better than a salad dressing. You are very lucky your bottle was more fortunate!

For me, this wine is perfect. Straight after decanting: nose of sour cranberry, meat and game, olive, sweet spice and a hint blackcurrant. Palate balanced but intense, with noticeable acid and and an undercurrent of ripe fruit (heat and distinctive jammy edge at the end), med+ tannin. After about 2h - what a transformation. Nose evolves into strong blackberry and prune, violets, cedar, smoke (cigar box?) and a punch of spice (black pepper, star anise). On the palate, still balanced and with that jammy edge but with big chewy tannins. Persistent but elegant fruit. Rich, ripe, spicy, a really sexy wine. Pure hedonistic pleasure. Can’t remember enjoying a wine like that for a long time. Couldn’t be improved.

4/2/2019 9:55:00 AM - Double decanted - first taste tried at this point (I liked doing that). Left the rest for about 1.5h before having another glass - the later glasses obviously got more time. Was still just as good the next day. Amazing wine, enjoy!
