One of my bottles, poured next to a 2007 Clos de Papes. Both wines showed fantastic today with the Papes showcasing muscle and power, and the pegau showing allure and sexiness. This bottle outclassed the powerful 2007 de Papes with ease as it effortlessly pranced along to its own beat of terroiristic snobbism, displaying just the right amount of barnyard and smoldering tobacco that is associated with a serious wine. The finish was beautifully re-emerging, brining back more barnyard and a cashmere like warmth. I preferred this by 2 points over the 100 point Clos de Papes, making this 102 points. But all jokes aside, for my taste the Clos de Papes comes in at 94 and this in comparison, was an easy 96. Drink!

To me, the 2009, 2010, and 2011 are the 3 glory years of Pegau.

    Thanks

Hors classe. Tasted this several times in France, now in more quiet conditions at home, this does not disapoint. Minerals galore, stony with fresh kirsch, very elegant, light on it's feet, yet with backbone and some tannin. Exceptional.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 13 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 87/100

Color: Velvety light red with a subtle orange-brown discoloration Aroma / bouquet: Lavishly perfumed and extraordinarily attractive bouquet, soft sweet impression of refined wood and dried plums, sweet tobacco. Remarkably, after some aeration, the bouquet no longer seems to become expressive, but flattened out. Not a good omen. Taste / Aftertaste: The first impression in the mouth is buttery soft, but is immediately followed by a somewhat rough (oxidized) acidity that, in combination with the tannins still present, creates a somewhat unpleasant 'angularity'. Long finish. Overall / potential: Too bad, this is not what I had hoped for. An 'exclusive' Ch9dP should be a 'fireplace wine', eating and drinking at the same time. Not 'food wine'. In combination with cheese crackers (Cheese Twists ;-)) this wine still offers plenty of drinking pleasure. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Taste / Finish: 13 + Overall / potential: 8 = 87/100

A slightly confusing wine from opening to later on and really is a wine that needs a decant and some air (suggest 1hr +)
Initially it does show a bit of that 2003 trait but not overly so. It had a really somewhat unpleasant bitter and metal taste that made things difficult early on despite decanting into bottle earlier.
Another 30 mins and it softens and gains some weight turning into something you would expect. With some cheese and food it really took on wings. At this point we finished the bottle rather too quickly and maybe it deserves a higher score . I’ll spend a bit more time and aeration on the next bottle.

Exceeding all expectations. Some barnyard upon uncorking, but that blew off after a half hour decant. Black and blue fruit, smoky meat, garrigue, pepper and cedar on the palate. Well-rounded tannin still prominant, and lively acid with a long finish. Superb.

I was a bit shocked to see that the wine poured to a burnt orange color on rim of glass. Couldn’t pick out any distinct aromas other than mild red fruits. Tastes of strawberry were evident, but there were no layers of anything else that I could put my finger on. This wine is obviously getting great reviews, only based on this actual bottle I can’t figure out why. I will get another and try again. I would say this is drinking well right now and won’t hold any others too much longer.

Every bottle of Pegau is a crapshoot. Took a while to figure whether this was funk or cork. Cork won out, just enough to ruin the wine, which I tried over a few hours.

Popped and poured at cellar temperature, this was very reticent. Decanting for an hour didn't help this much. Medium-dark crimson color. Faint aromas of graham crackers, but not much else on the nose. The palate is tannic but lacks body and character. I tried this back in 2009 and assumed then that the overall underwhelming impression was due to youth; unhapily, I can report that this seems to be an inferior vintage relative to the expressive, enjoyable 2003 and 2004.
