sadly, this was tappo. Too bad, too, as the fruit (aromas) in the background seemed quite pretty.

    I hope all is well.

Why the lack of tasting notes these days?

We really missing them. I particularly miss your notes on Tuscan wines.

    All the best.

Exactly as the last bottle from one year ago, this (LB20) was fizzy, sour and had a rubber flavor. Montesecondo has been a big disappointment for me.

PnP, well-crafted balance of savory finesse, place and freshness. This has the stuffing to improve a bit from here (for my palate). I will drink my other two bottles before Jan'24. Very good partner to food.

From the winery: "50% Abba Vineyard Grenache / 50% Del Barba Vineyard Mourvèdre
50% Whole Cluster - 12.8% Alc. - 1,500 bottles produced

The intention of the Foot Tread Rose' is to rotate the vineyard source. In addition to being one of the most fun wines we make, it is an opportunity to experience such a playful expression in a variety of new and exciting flavors.

This years edition, is a take on a very classic rosé blend from the south of France and, no surprise, it works . . really, really well. 100% Whole cluster Old vine Mourvèdre and de-stemmed Abba Grenache were foot tread and left on the skins for 24 hours. Like previous vintages, the 2021 is explosively packed with flavor and energy and lives somewhere between rosé and super light red wine. It feels more focused than the 2020, and may very well be in the running for best vintage of this cuvée. "

Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese more

6/21/2021 - Callum's Corkers Likes this wine: 95 points

Bought Excel Wines, Perth UK, £20.50 May 2021

Decanted 3 hrs before tasting at ambient temp' in a kitchen.
Riedel Pinot glass.

N....rich fruit, shedloads of savoury, dusty old barrels, dry summer herbs, pencil shavings, damp autumnal leaves, sweaty rolly baccy, medium+ intensity. Exciting.

C....looks medium body, clear deep red, no signs of age on edge.

T....gorgeous red wine, powerful long flavours, in a very good drinking window at 5 yrs old but clearly has many yrs left to properly mature; savoury, baccy, dry leather, liqourice, smokey oak, some choc-mocha; medium-dry style rather than properly dry; soft floury tannins, some warming spice, smooth and silky mouth-feel. Heaps of class, elegance and balance here.

VFM/QPR?.....Utter bargain. Costs £20.50, drinks like a £50 wine, further confirmation of the stellar 2016 season in Tuscany. Off to buy more.

Glad you enjoyed the wine and well done to you for buying on the recommendation of a stranger! I've tasted many of the 2016s and am yet to have one that doesn't have more potential than this wine, I've got a stack of these in storage and look forward to tasting how they evolve over the next 20 years.

    Cheers,

    Brett

10/24/2021 11:47:00 AM - Hi Callum, I’ve got another recommendation for you if you’re game(!), it’s a white this time - Gini, Soave Classico, La Frosca, 2016 (12.5%). On at Justerini & Brooks. Whilst I like whites in the height of summer I don’t often get excited by them, but this really blew me away. To my taste good Soave surprises to the upside, I had a Ca’Rugate Monte Fiorentine 2002 (average vintage) recently and thought it one of the best dry white’s I’ve ever had. Good Soave ages for ever and this La Fresca is just hitting its strides. I’d thoroughly recommend it to you and anyone else who is interested in good quality and great value whites that can age.

Slow ox decant for 4 hours. Decent color. Nose of olives, some floral. Mid palate still present with oak peering thru. This wine needs air and food. Not bad. Just kinda blah. Still have 4 more to go. 6 bottle lot from Spectrum for next to nothing......

I went all in on Chianti Classico 2016 and I found your tasting notes far superior to the “experts” and for the most part they completely aligned with what I seek in Sangiovese.

Excellent QPR, this wine is better than it needs to be. Lovely cherries, dark fruit, sweet spice, and a surprisingly assertive mineral backbone that pulls this together. I bought a case; I wish I had gotten 3!

Bought The Wine Soc' UK £19.50 Feb' 2021

DOCG Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Decanted 4 hrs previous, tasted at kitchen temp'

Lovely complex and interesting Tuscan red, superb mouth-feel, loads of flavour and plenty of charm. Worth every penny of £19.50, in fact punches above it's weight. Seems everything I'd heard about the near-perfect 2016 vintage in Tuscany is true. Not mature but drinking very well at 5 yrs old anyway, wonderfully balanced right now. My guess is it'll hold together for another 5 yrs.

N....Exciting and seductive, we're off to a great start: ripe red/black fruits and smoke and baccy, some interesting summer barnyard/hedge character; med+ intensity. A hint of salty licorice.

C....light-med body, fading a bit on the edge; light red.

T.....soft and rich but with acid and gentle tannins to give solid structure; super easy to drink and has oodles of charm; lots going on here, it's 'busy'; sustained flavours, a touch of coffee and bitter choc, classy fruit profile, some leather and a touch of smokey tar, finishes medium-dry.

VFM?.....costs just less than £20.00 but drinks like a £45.00 Tuscan red. Bargain. 2016...what a year in Tuscany.
