Old World nose of damp earth and wood. Dark plum. Menthol. Tasted over 3 days and it just keeps going - definitely in need of lengthy decant as it’s showing on days 2 and 3 were exceptional. A band of spicy red fruit - strangely, more like raspberry than anything else I can identify. The Old World nose doesn’t carry forward on the palate as much - I think a few more years and it will. Lengthy finish with a final top note of mentholated plum. Engaging wine.

The first bottle of this wine I had (about 3 years ago) was stunning with perhaps a 2-3 hour decant. Then I bought a case, with very different results. I now think that this wine needs to breath a LONG time (at least a day) and should probably be cellared for several more years before opening. Night 1 (January 1, 2021): I opened a bottle with dinner and poured a small amount. Very acidic and little flavor. Continued to pour and taste small amounts over about 5 or 6 hours. It did not improve. After drinking about 1/3 of the bottle I corked it. Day 2: I poured a small glass with a late lunch. It was delicious. This after the bottle had been open about 20 hours. At 24 hours, though the fruit was lovely, the wine was still very acidic. Night 3: The wine has a lovely flavor, but it is very rough. Lots of acid, some tannin, alcohol. It will probably take many more years in the cellar for the wine to smooth out and reach its potential. It could be enjoyed now if opened the day before drinking, but will probably be much better in a few years.
