10/22/2022 - Janthkin Likes this wine: NR(October, 2022). One of the older petite verdot bottles in our cellar. Delightful balance - a little fruit up front, a little tannin to finish, but not too far in either direction. Served with tri-tip. |

9/29/2022 - jhack1961 Likes this wine: 90 pointsPnP...Interesting, like a lean, herbal cabernet, maybe a little 'franc'-ish. I had this in their tasting room years back, remember it w more fruit, tonight it's green but in a sophisticated way, not underripe. Maybe not for everyone but very good, especially w NY Strip and mushroom/truffle risotto. |

7/18/2022 - jhack1961 Likes this wine: 90 pointsPnP - very expressive nose, blueberry and other dark fruits jump out of the glass, really delightful if not overly complex. Easy drinking, tannins fully resolved, probably at peak but not in danger of fading anytime soon. |

Tonight I was rooting around in my wine collection for something to go with tonight's steak & mushrooms. And I found my last bottle of this wine. I must have tasted it a decade ago, but I had no recollection of it at all. That fact is significant. |

1/17/2022 - Senso-beak wrote: 90 pointsOpened and poured. Jammy and purplish....a surprising amount of fruit still on this 20 year old...I would even say it's fruitier than many much younger wines. Plenty of blackberry and jammy grapey plum and sweet blueberry. Still has some acidity to keep it fresh, and almost puckering. Went quickly. Not sensational, but just darn good. |

It was a little rough at first. Strong alcohol taste. Four or five hours later, though, it got better. Alcohol taste faded and there was still some life in this old bottle. Started to taste more like a 25 year old wine should. A little fruit blast and a little oak. Not the best but it survived ok. |

We are drinking the history of California wine, of course, and that's an added bonus. Despite the prominence of Concannon's Petite Sirah as their quintessential wine, this Cab was probably decent when made and now, 39 years later, it's got something to show -- great color still, silky mouthfeel, light body as expected for age, and lovely integrated tannins and fruit (which it still has!). |

9/4/2021 - BRR wrote: 92 pointsThis was an auction purchase a year or so ago (winebid). Fill level was into the neck. Upon removing the capsule, there was a good amount of mold around the cork. I forgot my durand and used an ah-so with corkscrew, yet still broke the cork. If was nice and most still and didn't appear to have allowed any seepage. Upon first pour, the color was surprisingly ruby red with minimal bricking and no browning. The nose was subtle but great: dried cherry, tobacco, a nice hint of rose hip. The palate was mature yet more youthful than I anticipated with flavors of cherry, dried plum, earthy humidor, and the tannin was still slightly present. The wine actually gained some heft by the second glass. Really fun to drink and a great showing. Had I not known, as I often read, I would've pegged this as a Bordeaux variety(ies) and not Petite Sirah. |
