A surprisingly fruit forward, high alcohol Cabernet blend from California. Well, not that surprising.
I'm a lover of old school Heitz Martha's or Diamond Creek anything.... So when I get this kind of juicer, I know immediately it won't be a repurchase and it's often not long for the cellar.
Will it get better over a decade. It depends, but it's not going to last 20 years.

So, to me, even at it's elevated price, it's decant for 2 hours+, drink it, and forget it.
Won't be a repurchase for me.

That said, it's well made. It's soft and supple. And it's an ok food pairing wine.

Lasagna in day 1
Spicy chicken wings and fries 24 hours later.

Definitely better after 24 hours decant! However, even though this has the price of a cellar defender and the initial tannic structure, this isn't for cellaring!
That is, it will be better after 24 hours. The tannins are already nicely integrated, and.... More to come

It's young, but even with that, hardly any wood noticed

This was overall, a relatively odd/strange experience.
Will not buy it again, but it was fun to try along the road of Drinking The Rainbow!

Purple color minimal aroma. Had black olive finish, nothing stands out smell or finish wise, but is a serviceable blend . Good Tuesday wine

Decanted 90 min; Very fruit-forward, with flavors of black cherry and currants, eucalyptus, and oak and vanilla flavors on the finish. Was far more enjoyable on day 2, so may need additional time to further integrate. A fairly sweet tasting wine, this did better when paired with some food. Drink now - 2028.

Pnp. It's like biting into a blackberry bush. Fresh, juicy blackberries, the seeds, and the leaves from the bush...it's all there. Medium acid and tannin. It's not a blockbuster, but an enjoyable bottle that doesn't need too much thought...better than I expected. This can go another handful of years. Drink now - 2029. 90 points.

Full bodied, black fruit, forest floor, spices and oak. Quite dry for Napa. Grippy tannins and good acidity. More old world style than Napa. Quite interesting

What a surprise. No longer the disjointed fruit bomb that I bought upon release at the assistance of a wine shop owner. My goodness, how this has developed. Big and powerful yet not overpowering. Has significant life ahead. Enjoy!

Deep ruby in color. Non-complex earthy aromas of black-fruit, cigar, and black tea. Black current, plum flavor. Slight heat. Reasonable quality/price for everyday wine.

Might be our favorite vintage yet of this offering. Required a decant to loosen things up. At $35 this might be one of California’s best wine values. Lush and complex, this full bodied Cab-dominant blend gushes with fruit, herbal and mineral notes. Restrained bouquet, but a long finish. Might cellar this for another year before revisiting. Drink 2025 to 2034. Outstanding when you factor in the QPR.

Our last tasting of this wonderful wine was 5/3/2023. We checked our notes after our tasting of this vintage, and found that we'd given both of them the exactly same rating of 96. Absolutely delicious with eggplant parmesan and grilled ciabata bread with garlic butter.
5/21/24 - On the nose and on the palate , all the dark berries, smooth, full-bodied, long finish and delicious. Consumed with Pasta (paparelle), Alfredo sauce and grilled ciabata bread with garlic butter

The 2020 Leviathan is a very nice pour. I needed something relatively fruity for dinner, and I found the right bottle. It paired very nicely with Rib Eyes for a belated Valentines Day dinner. All of my guest's liked it, and we thought that it was fairly priced at $44 a bottle.

Three hour slow ox. Very deep dark magenta color. Cranberry, walnut, black cherry, cassis, and coffee beans. Dry, plush palate. Firm, full, lower intensity tannins on the medium long finish.

I enjoyed this wine more than I normally do in recent years. It’s rich and smoky. It’s probably lower quality than it was years ago (much like Prisoner), but still a solid QPR. My score may have a one point bonus built in for value.

Brought to Ever Andolo to share with friends before Futurebirds show. Always a pleaser. Nice ripe fruits, tobacco, lead pencil. Traditional cab style wine from Cali.

I was surprised at how good this is. I've bought it across a few vintages and always found it quite solid, but this feels like a step up in richness and concentration. It feels like the blend they have is more than the sum of its parts. Will likely seek this out even more over time as a go-to.
