No detailed notes- had across from the ‘13 as well at a restaurant dinner. Random glassware.
Presented nicely but took 90 minutes to really open up and show what it had. Drink now with a decant or hold. A little tighter and lower toned than the ‘13. Still very nice domestic Syrah.

Drank two days after shipment and over the next two days just to get a feel for the new vintage. 2nd day in a Gabriel Glas.

Impressive Grenache with 17% Cinsault and 7% Mourvèdre in the blend.

Elegant, light on its feet, comes alive with food and gains a very pleasant depth of flavor.

Akin to a light a crisp red wine, with just a little more fleshy fruit forward flavor.

Drink now with a quick splash decant or have over the next 5.

We wanted a big, fat red to go with baked ziti, and this hit the spot! Mouthwatering aromas of black fruit, herbs and earth. Solid tannic structure and developed in the glass to reveal a black cherry preserve, beautiful mouthfeel and a long lasting finish.

Im so sorry to see Kurt and Vicki exit the stage.this was a delicious wine.

Everything you want a Syrah from the Rocks to be.

Tonight this bottle seems a little closed and tight, as if it will take some time to really open up. That said, the wine is still so rich and unctuous, generous in its presentation of fruit, spice, herbs and a hint of that “Rocks” funky typicity.

There is all of the elements of a rich and bold Syrah, without going too far. It remains balanced and composed while being as hedonistically giving as possible.

Definitely delicious, if had in the next year or two, it definitely deserves a vigorous decanting to ensure it opens up and reveals more.

For what it is worth, I intended to have this over two days, to give it a chance to show more, but we looked up and the bottle was next to gone because it was so darn tasty.

Bursting with aromas of white peach, Crenshaw melon, nectarine, expressed kumquat, orange blossom, honeysuckle, and subtle notes of ground ginger, pink peppercorn, river stones, and salty minerals.
The palate shows great intensity in flavors at almost a decade old. Medium-bodied with good weight that has not an ounce of flab on it. Cut with above moderate acidity and moderate phenolics. Flavors coat the pallet with notes of white peach, nectarine, melon, orange zest, and apricot skin that are woven with notes of honeysuckle, orchard blossoms, subtle spice, mineral and earth notes play out through the long finish.
Feminine, balanced and very elegant.

For me this is still within its prime window and one of the best Viognier's you will find out there, domestic or imported - and that includes wines in double its price point.

Decanted off the heavy sediment. Still inky purple in the glass and opaque with some sexy long longs walking down the glass; eye catching and mesmerizing.
Aromas remain explosive with notes that show boysenberry, blueberry and huckleberry, vanilla, liquid violets, baking spice, sweet anise, sandalwood and lighter hints of leather, volcanic earth, toast and mint.
The palate is still lively with bright acids, firm yet polished tannins and above moderate mid-palate density. Showing a bit of freshness given the age. Berry flavors of boysenberry, blueberry, huckleberry and blackberry weave into notes of baking spice, vanilla, violet pastilles, baked pastry, sweet anise, wood tones, earth and toast. The juicy finish lingers highlighting the spiced berry flavors.

Drinking astonishingly youthful still. Everything is still so well put together. An exceptional QPR.

Wow. From the first moment, the nose promised and the palate delivered. This wine was singing last night - immediately more approachable and generous in comparison to the same year’s Petite Sirah.
Meaty, a little iron, black and blue fruits, herbs and black pepper. This bottle was just in a stellar spot on this day. Bottle variation, biodynamic day variation? Yesterday was a flower day… either way, great bottle.

No detailed notes- brought to a dinner.
Started out rather tight, showing some astringent black fruit and mostly spicy cracked pepper. Over the course of several hours the wine gradually opened up, eventually rounding out the fruit a bit more while maintaining a nice spicy edge.

Clearly, this wine can go a ways further and I now wish I’d waited 2-4 more years before opening it.
Hold and hold.

Initially upon opening the wine is a bit muted and flat, after 4 hours it finally starts to open and reveal a little more nuance.
Eventually we have black pepper on the front of the palate, some pine needles, a hint of beef and some roasted blackberries.
So many people I know give credence to the biodynamic calendar and today is not a good day on the calendar- and I initially thought this wine wasn’t showing well, but 4 hours in I am enamored of this wine. Really good showing.
I am not sure if it needs a little more time, or just to be opened on a “better” day.
Guess I’ll open another during the next year in a better day and see what happens….

This is one of the more surprising tasting experiences I can remember of late. I had tasted this wine back in 2019 and it showed a lot of promise, but was tough to drink due to the overwhelming tannins and acidity. However, even though this is a screw cap, it significantly tamed itself. My surprise, however, is how much this Petite Syrah is blind tasting like a terroir driven Super Tuscan. This had loads of plumb, red and black fruits, some black tea spices, vanilla and chocolate, all supported by an exquisite sense of place and earth. Overall, this was fantastic!

Notes based on day-2 tasting. Day-1 was good, but not near day-2 in quality.

Powerful, pungent, and a little compressed. While very tasty, this wine is still quite primary and tonight it seems like it needs at least a year or two to open up and stretch its legs into being more expressive.
Still, a very well made wine that will evolve into a great place given time.
Hold until 2024 at least.

Properly decanted this bottle and consumed it in a pairing of 2015 and 2016 Rulo Heart of the Hill and Betz 2015 and 2016 Heart of the Hill. The Rulo and Betz have different styles and both were very good. The Rulo was a bit more earthy and possibly more of a "food" wine. I really liked it and will buy more of the current vintage. Together, this tasting highlighted how good the grapes are from Heart of the Hill vineyard, on Red Mountain, when used by excellent wine producers. Good job to Rulo.
