Deep purple color. The nose is delightfully spicy, with these paprika, red pepper flakes and black pepper dusted over a host of fresh blueberries and tart red plums – and it works so, so well. The tangy acidity sets the stage, dusty but structured tannins offer structure and grip, while the balance and freshness are on point. Tangy blackberries and red/black currant fruit mixes with lots of violets, clove, black pepper, with loamy earth and a hint of barbecue sauce and grilled meat. Spicy, fresh, floral, delicious, this will do wonders in the cellar, too. 15% whole cluster fermentation, includes 2% Viognier, aged 26 months in 450-liter puncheons, 13.8% alcohol.

Medium yellow color. Classic deep Viognier aromas, but it has a lot of unique twists and turns that are a delight to follow: banana, kiwi, white peach, with honeycomb and raw almond, notes of chalk dust and sea salt. On the palate – wow! – the acidity is racy and fresh (thankfully) which balances well with the deep, waxy texture and juicy papaya and pineapple fruit (a drizzle of lime in there, too). The floral tones are perfumed but nuanced, and tones of chalk dust and saline are welcomed. Creamy but fresh, a delightful Sonoma Viognier worth seeking out. From a cool, west-facing site that really shines through, this is 13.8% alcohol and aged five months in neutral oak.

This took a little while to open up, but once it did it was worth it. Nose of underbrush, dried thyme, graphite, dark macerated berries — the savory components really lead. The palate is fresh with nice med+/high-ish acid, more graphite, blackberries. It’s doesn’t have quite the palate intensity you’d hope for based on the nose, but there’s still a nice sense of direction.

Insanely good for a Grocery Outlet find.

Simple decant, 3rd and last btl.
Slight bricking, this just seemed closed down, it was good with food not great,
I just wanted more from this wine and it wasn’t there on the fruit side, short finish.
Possible a cooler vintage?

Drinking beautifully right now. Balanced and very old world in style--a wine of finesse rather than power.

Probably the best showing of a few for this wine, there was a bit more of a nose, and it wasn't quite as tight. More savory than fruity. A bit drying on the finish.

Had side by side a 2013 Rhys Syrah. Different styles and I think we slightly preferred this one. Fleshier fruit, a little vanilla note, a little more of a green, bramble aspect. Not quite as structured as the Rhys. Made a better food wine with tamales. Probably safe to age a few years longer.

Second bottle, and there's still not much to it. There's a hint of blue fruit, but it doesn't have the tannins or the acidity I'd expect. Meh.

Garnet colored with cherries in the nose. Smooth tannins, with great balance and long finish. Not a typical Pinot but very enjoyable.

This is really doing well.
Typical heavier Syrah notes, not over extracted or Oaked. Great with a nice steak.

I think these are primed up.

Tight and not showing much. Swirling helped a bit. Ok balance of acid, tannin and shy fruit. I'm inclined to see what a couple+ more years will do for it

Vinturied into decant, a middle of the road Syrah, the acid needs to calm down, a tad raw on the finish.
I’d hold this until 2020, thru 2024, for best results.
I should have read my previous notes>hold!

It's better, after having sat in the wine cellar for a while, and I do love Syrah. I might have been willing to just let it sit for another year, except that it hails from 2012, and has had the foil removed (perhaps it never had foil). I consider the protective foil over the cork to be important, since I live in a desert. It's a decent enough wine, and worth the money.

(bottle provided from Casemates for review)

This Cuvee is quite light on the nose with no noticeable alcohol hit. I get lots of cherry cola/floral/light smells. Maybe some light caramel as well. I like the color, which i would say is medium purple with good concentration.

Tasting for the first time i got a hit of eucalyptus, but that disappeared on subsequent tastes, for what it’s worth. Generally it’s a soft wine with good acid but not a lot of tannin. The part that blew me away was the finish — suuuuuper long. It just kept sitting there and tasting good for what seemed like a full minute.

Six months ago the SoCal gathering was syrah focused, and i could see this bottle sitting in that group. We had the Baker Lane Estate Syrah (previously offered), and i would say this Cuvee is a different breed.

It was less than successful in pairing with food. A hamburger with all the fixings overwhelmed the wine. After dinner we finished the bottle without food which played to it's strengths.

Overall, quite delicate and light and good without food.

Nice wine. Deep garnet color with a nice, soft and somewhat fruity aroma. Taste is nice with a savory & spice mix. Nice balance with medium (and smooth) tannins and nice acidity. Not my favorite, but to be fair, I’m not a huge Syrah fan. Still a Nice QPR for the price.
