3/11/2024 - Eudemis Likes this wine: NR

It is Méjean actually. 13.5% alcohol (I wonder if it is not a tad more). M 80%, CS 20%. Stylish bottle with semi sloping shoulders, pretty heavy too. Decanted an hour ahead. The colour is fairly dark with no sign of ageing.
Very pleasing nose, definitely dark fruited with fresh plum and a hint of leather. The mouth is immensely seductive with a juicy quality not that frequent in Bordeaux; I suppose that it is Merlot handled well. No hard edges, but not in any way spineless, and there is a lot going on in the finish, which is supported by superb acidity. The winemaking is modern in the best sense of the term, and the oak is unobtrusive (just as well as it could otherwise have pushed the wine over the edge for me).
Bordeaux Merlot at its best, ready to drink now.

Light in color, the touch of spice adds to the soft-textured, bright, red berries and espresso core here. You can enjoy this with ease on release and over the next few years. Drink from 2024-2028.

Deep ruby red colour. Dark plum, leather, raisins and black pepper on the nose. Taste of dark plum, black cherry, black pepper and leather with hints of tobacco. Long and dry finish with hints of leather and pepper. Goes well with cheeses, beef, game or lamb.

Medium-bodied, soft, fresh, polished and bright, with a core of tobacco-edged currants and cherries on the nose, mid-palate and all over the easy-to-like finish. Drink from 2023-203.

Medium garnet, beautiful bricking at the rim
M+ Intensity nose, a bit reticent but pleasurable aromas of
Red and black fruit (red and black currant) with violets and slight note of tar, baking spice particularly cinnamon, eucalyptus, mushroom, still presenting young to the nose
M+ acid attack in balance with high, gritty tannins
M+ Body, M alcohol, this Mejean is light on its feet
Medium finish (will this develop)
VG Wine with clear further aging potential given fruit still present and strong acid/tannin structure, even likely to improve

I would not hesitate to drink now but decant for at least 1hr (My tasting was closer to PNP)

The touch of smoke that comes along with the green tobacco leaf, spice and red berries on the nose and palate are quite nice. Medium-bodied, soft, fresh and fruity, this will be just great to enjoy as soon as the wine hits the stores. This is a superb, Bordeaux value wine from the Graves appellation. Drink from 2022-2030.

89 vvPunkte (80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14%.

My Grade: EX. Tannic and somewhat unapproachable when young, this wine still showed a lot of promise and good aging potential. 10 years on it is into its drinking window. Great color: deep opaque purple with some rim- bricking, subdued but complex nose of cassis, blackberry, tar, vanilla, baking bread, shoe polish, forest floor. Very focused, intense, sour black fruit on the palate with burnt-toast, cranberry, tobacco and cedar. It still has great structure with fine-lined acidity and well-integrated, firm tannins. Very long, complex finish of sour cassis and cranberry. Unquestionably Graves in character. Great winemaking, which you don't expect at this price point and from a great vintage too! Hard to find in US.

85-87 vvPunkte (80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1/3 neues Holz, 1/3 1jährige Barrique, 1/3 Stahltank) Reife, leicht gekocht wirkende Nase, würzige Noten, Schlagsahne, Kirschtorte, Schokolade. 2023-2030 (April/Mai 2021)

Tobacco leaf and cocoa topped dark cherries are on the nose. On the palate, the medium bodied wine is round, sweet, earthy and open with a touch of cigar wrapper in the mid-palate and ripe, dark red fruit finish. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. 88-90

Nice dark fruited nose that, thankfully, is not at all Port-like in its ripeness. Touches of savories, along with tobacco, asphalt and earth blend well with the fruit flavors. Nice balance on the palate. Lovely wine, if lacking just a bit in complexity of mouthfeel.

Decanted for two hours. Concentrated and polished, this colossus of a vin could use a few more years, however, is quite long and evocative. Crushed rock, currant, lilies and fresh tobacco; very Graves in so many ways. Quite modern. Drink 2019 - 2034.

Medium bodied, forward, and ready to go, with its smoky black and red cherry personality. From a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is not a wine for aging. Instead it's well priced and fine for uncomplicated quaffing today.
