Really short in the mouth, little high acidity too probably 'cause this is a young bottle. Nothing more than a curiosity.

Muy tímida en nariz destacando algunas notas a tiza.
En boca muy corta con una acidez algo disparada, seguramente por su juventud. Poco más que una curiosidad.

Still young and crisp; smooth honey, pears, minerals, smokiness, citrus, a stringent acidity, impeccable balance - bravo, Feller!

Alsace Masterclass (The Progress, SF): Summary: This is pretty interesting. It definitely reminds me of the ’12, but the aromatics are more in the stinkier thiol range.
Score: Around 8.5
---------------
Full Sensory:
Visual: Moderate concentration pale gold.
Nose: Elevated intensity, terpenic and stinky. Fresh rose terpenes, a whiff of burnt firecracker that blew off after a bit (reductive / sulfur compound flaw). Some bitter thiols - overripe grapefruit, skunk. Light tones of saffron (botrytis). (GKruth: botrytis erodes terpenes, so Weinbach’s wines tend to be difficult to call varietal on because of the combo of botrytis and higher RS).
Palate: A bit off dry - ~15-20 g/L RS [called this well! 19.6 g/L]. Medium plus body. Diminished acid. Bitterness driven balance.

Laterals:
-vs. Muscat (e.g. the Bechtold) - the Gewurz has slightly elevated alcohol [13.5%], lower alcohol, and the terpenes are more on the “rose” side than the “orange oil” side.

Note on Gewurz: Not GKruth’s favorite grape, but can lead to some of his all time favorite food pairings: Sausage, stinky cheese (Muenster d’Alsace), pork (actually a lot of Alsace wines are good with pork).

Lush and ripe from the get-go (uncorked for maybe 30 minutes before pouring), this was a huge favorite with parsnip/pear soup. I added smoked mussels and the smokey/saline note really worked with the wine.

Popped and poured. Medium yellow. Bouquet is subtle and belies the impact of this wine. Rich and spicy - a honeyed edge but the main story here is a complex interplay of acid and spice. Long final of honey and peppercorn. Great interest but will be heavy handed for some. I found the alcohol noticeable on the final and was surprised to see it at 14.5% on the label.

Big wine and to my tastes very enjoyable. We paired this with a cheese fondue and it was OK, although I think something with more apparent fruit would have been a nicer pairing. I could see this playing very nicely with a Massaman curry with lamb.

Alsace @ Home II: The Three Grapes (Home): bottle 64810-404 (first accessing)
@home

Summary:
Structure was classically Gewurz: Low acid, high alcohol, high phenolic bitterness, touch of RS. Nose was terpenic but emphasizing candied rose petals and musky perfume rather than canned or fresh lychees.
Overall - very nice. It’s just not speaking to me like the Boxler. Maybe it’s still a bit young?

Score: Between 8.5 and 9.
-----------------
Clear, just bright.
Pale gold with reflections of green and straw in the glass.
No gas or sediment.
Moderate tears.

[taste: some RS - less than the Pinot Gris, maybe 15g/L RS?]

Nose:
Moderate plus in intensity. Clean.
Terpenic candied rose petals dominate with ripe syrupy lychee and a bit of thiol-like grapefruit pith bitterness on the back-end. Cardamom and waxy floral oils dominate - this is more floral and waxy than fruit-driven.
No evidence of oak on the nose.
Overall waxy and floral-driven.
There’s some complexity to this wine.
It’s youthful to developing - still seems quite primary.

Palate:
A touch of RS - maybe 15 g/L
Medium plus body, Moderate plus alcohol ~13%? [close - 13.5%].
Savory and waxy with some suggestions of ripe apricot.
I was told there’s wood on this but I’m not picking up anything obvious - maybe some old barrels. [according to the bottle, fermentation is in old large casks - so it makes sense that I’m not picking it up.]
Balanced acidity but just moderate to moderate minus / diminished.
Very present phenolic bitterness at the end - moderately elevated.
The wine is balanced, emphasizing alcohol, sweetness, and bitterness.
It has a little complexity but is still pretty primary.
Finish is moderate in length.

Nice nose, better mouth, and good length. Bitter mouth with grapefruit, somewhat reminiscent of what I think of as Gewurtztraminer, though still quite Riesling in nature. A great drink.

Gave 30min air in bottle. Compared to the non-Cuvee version, this was pretty closed. Still very nice aromas but just tight -- and after 1/3 of the bottle sat uncorked overnight, by the next morning it was a completely different wine. Open and lush. Sit on this one for a few more years, or decant a few hours.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon color, with watery rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with pronounced intensity of tropical fruit such as dried pineapple and lychee, maturity notes of honey, floral notes of rose, sweet spice of ginger, citrus fruit of mandarin orange, mineral notes of waxy. The wine is developing.
Palate: Off-dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium alcohol with a medium body and medium (+) intensity flavors of citrus fruit like mandarin orange, tropical fruit of lychee and dried pineapple, stone fruit of apricot, floral notes of rose, sweet spice of ginger. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Alsace Gewurztraminer with a strong nose showing plenty of complexity, the wine is well-balanced, with good concentration of flavors on top of the nice harmony between sweetness and acidity, plus also a fairly long finish. The wine continued to show how strong even after opening for more than two days. Ready to drink now, it can be maintained for another 3-5 years.

ejat can you say but WOW. As amazing of any Weinbach that I have ever tasted. Great acids and minerals keep it floating and the sweetness blends in nicely. Every possible combination of brown scars, integrated oak like butterscotch, table molasses, burnt caramel along with the pitted fruits, candied citrus, slate, flint and florals of acacia and dried red. berries. Very, very long finish. You are sad when the bottle is empty even after a night with about 28 amazing wines.

I really love this. Did not have the overwhelming aromatics of a typical Gewurz. More restrained and focused. Palate-wise was light yet intense. Off-dry, similar to a Kabinett level German. The higher alcohol compared to a German Riesling did not stick out at all. So balanced and so lovely to drink now. Excellent!

It’s been a while since I have had a white wine that has really grabbed my full attention, and boy did this Riesling deliver. The palate impact was immediate and penetrating, citrus juices (predominately lemon) work their way into all the nooks and crannies of the mouth, leaving a powdered, stony residue in its wake. The palate weight conveys a rich and luxurious feel to the proceedings but no actual sweetness is tasted a trait that this Domaine is so skilled at producing. The acidity is strong but so evenly spread out that it avoids as coming across as aggressive, in fact, I’d say elegant is the more apt adjective. Long and very impressive on the finish. This is still a very young wine, and I hazard a guess will continue to develop gracefully for another decade and hold perhaps another 10 years after that. Superb.
