Seemed ready. Decanted for an hour and it did open up a bit more. Red fruit, but well-balanced by acid, so not overly sweet. Could hold it another 2-3 years. All four people liked it, so I didn't feel bad about the "splurge". We had it with various cheeses. I think it would have been even better with Beef Bourguignon or Coq au Vin, as noted on the label.
"Vintner: will perfectly pair with meats in sauce as beef bourguignon or coq au vin, red meat as prime cut of beef, leg of lamb, as well as strong cheeses: Munster or Cîteaux."

United Cellars Grand Cru Pinot Noir tasting (The four seasons hotel, the rocks, sydney): Medium plus intensity aromas of black cherry, plums, earthy notes, touches of sweet spice, a little mineral note and a touch of gameyness. Juicy, red and black fruit, again a little sourness, woody, chalky tannins prove tight, alcohol warmth intrudes slight on the finish, too young but also a little out of whack. not for me.

This wine came across as a rather closed effort to me, pretty massive, but not all welcoming. It had some nice openings on dark fruit and mokka, but i sensed this overdone by earthy notes and a somewhat hostile acidity. Would i have this in the cellar, i would probably try to forget this for another 5 years.

Surprisingly expressive, almost bold. Intense red fruit, liquorice, dark chocolate, sous-bois, toast, sweet spices. Can easily go another decade.

2017 Vintage: Nose Light-Med strawberries, plum, leather some spice, great balance and complexity. Palate: forward fruit, tobacco, minerals, more acidity and tannins in the middle and long finish. Quite fresh at the start but then a little syrupy boiled fruits trail off the finish. I hope this wine will smooth out with more time.

Old-fashioned, yet somehow new-fangled Burgundy. Heavy, fancy (did I say heavy?) bottle. But this is Burgundy not Alto Moncoya—no need for the 1.5kg trophy bottle. Opened an hour ahead of service. The robe is a dark ruby/with a fair amount of bricking on the rim. The nose shows some residual wood influence: a touch of brûlée, some espresso and cream along with some old school funk and stank. There’s some black fruit and cherry pit, iron filings, as well as Bovril, beef broth, and a little tar. Nothing too bretty or flawed, but the at crux of sous-bois and decay. Meaty, beaty big, and bouncy to borrow from The Who, emphasis on meaty. And given the remaining fruit there’s balance here, though the degree of extraction, cooperage, and that dumb bottle are all worthy of discussion. I don’t hate this, but I can’t say I would pour it for anyone either. It’s a one-off bottle purchased on release and may have gotten a breathy score which inspired its purchase and cellaring. That said, I kinda forgot about it in storage. And though there’s a lot of damning with faint praise in this note, my sense is that opening earlier would have revealed far more new wood élevage that I prefer. Maybe there are fresher bottles out there, or ones where the cooperage isn’t so evident. Re-buy? No. I don’t mind the stank, but the winemaking seems to trump soil signature and doesn’t do the remaining fruit any favors. And I know it’s Nuits-Saints-Georges (by the label) absent the affectation, I’d be grooving on the rusticity.

NobleRottersSydney - Burgundy (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 14%} [Gordon] Youthful, big, juicy, jubey, black-fruited wine. Blackberry on the palate, with sweet roses. Gentle but rich oak. Medium-plus in weight, medium/high acid and medium/high chalky tannins too. Even palate, medium length finish. Not subtle, but lush and lovely and sweetly-finishing. A burg for shiraz-lovers.

Excellent typicity; lacks complexity of a great 1er cru but very enjoyable nonetheless. Will hold here near or at peak for another few years I would think, and those who enjoy at least some early secondary notes will be pleased if this is held another 3-5 years, though I fear some unwanted dropoff in the fruit by 5 years' time as well. Kept at 55F since purchase in ~2017.

Had with fondue at home cooked in in red wine and vegetable stock with mushrooms and green onions. A fantastic pairing.

Monday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Will have to do a little research to understand the "B. Mugneret-Gouachon et Fils" on the label as well. The nose is unmistakably a riper-vintage red Burgundy, with plenty of autumnal notes and some sweet fruit. Missing any spice notes here; I definitely missed the Vosne call. I figured it was something like a Charmes-Chambertin with its bit of iron. The state of the fruit and autumnal notes here had me thinking this was an 1985. A wine that would be vastly better with a roast chicken than straight up.

Coravin fun - Burgundy (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Spicy, earthy, black hued fruits grow with time in the glass and also shows an almost dried out raisiny note, touch of caramel and slightly metallic. Juicy, fleshy, black hued fruits, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth, a little tannic burr, those more savoury, earthy notes in support joined by a little mushroom. Probably time to tidy this up...

NR cuz this felt kinda closed, but it didn't appear to have the brutishness that I often find these days with '05 red burgs... this had some nice acidity and seemed like -- if / when it opens up -- that it might be a little on the elegant side (especially for '05)... maybe 91-93 pt potential?

An inviting nose of musk, smoked meats, pine needle sap and earth. There's a hint of leathery development and a core of something sweet and vinous. It has a silky texture and is not deep or long but is engaging and finishes fresh with a fine line of minerally acidity.

First sips were strawberry, watermelon, stone, with a bit of tart.
This quickly gave way to silky, smooth, buttery goodness, with a long finish.

With its brick red colour and russet fringe, this Bourgogne looks ready. The nose doesn't show a particularly ripe vintage, but there is more than decent ripeness evident, albeit in a nicely barrel-aged good generic Bourgogne manner. The palate is rather acidic at first, but it shows adequate sweetness with food after about half an hour, and continues to drink nicely over the next hour and a half thereafter. The tannins are pretty much fully resolved. Generally, very good plus. It is a real prospect that this could see 30 years.
