Blackberry & raspberries on the nose. Beautiful balance of fruit, acidity and fully resolved tanins on the palate. Excellent. Sadly, the last bottle of a case.

One never knows what they'll see when they open a bottle of this. A couple have been 'wow' wines, one was dark tight and ungiving, and this one was somewhere in between. Not as light in color as the first bottle, nor as dark in color and fruit profile as one a couple years ago, this needed some coaxing for the nose to come forth, it was pleasant on the palate, but a bit reticent.

Day 1: Serviceable but nothing exciting. Earth, forest floor, cherry and mild spice. Short finish. Would not buy again. 86 points
Day 2: Not much different. Very boring with cherry, earth, forest floor, spice and mushrooms. Yes has some Pinot character but lacking in acidity and not balanced. I don't see this wine every being a winner. 85 points
Day 3: Yes I will take this to day 4 to see if anything comes out of this wine. Maybe a touch better with mushrooms, dust, forest floor, spices, and cherry. Again very short finish. Used to love Stangeland wines but this one is not working. 84.5 points
Day 4: Not good.
Recommendation: This is why I like cellar tracker because I just saved from buying this. This is not the Boedecker deal WTSO had.

double decanted and poured after about half an hour. Wow. Nothing like a bottle a couple years ago, this had an expressive nose, and was forthcoming on the palate with red and dark fruits, earth and a bit of spice. Long, pleasant finish. After a couple hours, it tightened up a bit on the palate, but the nose continued to show. I think this should drink well for some time, but it's going to be hard to keep my grubby mitts off the remaining bottles. This after disappointing showings from 2017, 2018 and a 2019 from the same vintner. Lets hope those come around like this.

Decanted and poured...ruby colored with no notable bricking...initially, there was some nose and the wine was probably at its best over the first hour....followed for about 4 hours, during which time the tannins became increasingly drying and it showed less and less on the palate. I've enjoyed the Stangeland wines in the past, but I don't have a lot of hope for this bottling.

Pleasant, if quite tight. It took a bit of coaxing to bring the nose to the fore. Good balance with a modicum of tannin. It didn't change much over a few hours. I think time will be its friend.

Medium plus red color. Brought to my holiday party at work. Didn't have much, but has the representative earthiness on the nose and palate, floral notes, some underbrush, black cherry fruits.

Popped and poured....after a 2016 Stangeland Vermeer bottle that was tight and un-giving a year ago, I wanted to check in on this. This continued to open up over a few hours, though it never really hit its stride. It showed some nose, good balance, some red fruits and earth, and the oak did not stick out. 90-ish points with upside potential

Nose: Nice and toasty with mineral presence. Palate: Solid acid levels with muted lemons and a clean, elegant finish. Such a solid finesse wine with a low alcohol level (12.25 %). Wish I had bought more than 3 bottles. Good value at $19. 90+ points.

It has been about 5 years since I opened a bottle of this. I've been holding it back to get a sense of the aging curves for later vintages, which I have a number of. Upon opening this wine was fairly expressive aromatically, it wasn't as much bottle boquet as one might hope for given the age, but welcome. The wine is still a youthful dark claret-color, and fairly sizeable on the palate. Most sips showed pinot typicity..an occassional one could pass for syrah. The wine changed litte over the 6 hours it was open. I get the sense this could have gone a LOT longer

My first bottle was flawed- this one is fine. Dry with juicy acidity and medium (-) tannins. Cherry, pomegranate, rhubarb, faint baking spice, medium (-) bodied with a medium length finish that turns a touch bitter.

Big bubbles, light mousse. A blend of Chardonnay and Viognier. Substantive yet refreshing. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for with presence and power.

Another pleasantly rustic, shading to Côte de Beaune offering from this producer. All elements quite impressive, until the back, which reveals an astringent bite, typical of excessive pressing. According to the host, the winemaker uses minimal whole cluster fermentation, and perhaps none at all in the wines I tasted. I could not escape the conclusion that heavy pip and stem presence lies at the core of the issue.

Another fine Stangeland offering, shading to Côte de Beaune, on account of its terroir-driven style. As with the producer's other Pinot Noir offerings, a astringent bite appears at the back, and lingers through the finish.

Shades of Burgundy, on the bouquet and palate. Pleasantly earthy and judiciously oaked. Edgy and biting at the back, however, a trend in all of the producer's Pinot Noir offerings. Seemingly, excessive pressing.

In a light and precise style. Shades of Old World here. Easy to like. Likely versatile with food, particularly fowl, and possibly shellfish in rich sauces.
