Not as light in color as the first bottle, nor as dark in color and fruit profile as one a couple years ago, this needed some coaxing for the nose to come forth, it was pleasant on the palate, but a bit reticent. |

Nothing like a bottle a couple years ago, this had an expressive nose, and was forthcoming on the palate with red and dark fruits, earth and a bit of spice. Long, pleasant finish. After a couple hours, it tightened up a bit on the palate, but the nose continued to show. I think this should drink well for some time, but it's going to be hard to keep my grubby mitts off the remaining bottles. This after disappointing showings from 2017, 2018 and a 2019 from the same vintner. Lets hope those come around like this. |

2/18/2024 - thalver wrote: NRDecanted and poured...ruby colored with no notable bricking...initially, there was some nose and the wine was probably at its best over the first hour....followed for about 4 hours, during which time the tannins became increasingly drying and it showed less and less on the palate. I've enjoyed the Stangeland wines in the past, but I don't have a lot of hope for this bottling. |

This continued to open up over a few hours, though it never really hit its stride. It showed some nose, good balance, some red fruits and earth, and the oak did not stick out. 90-ish points with upside potential |

6/13/2023 - thalver wrote: NRIt has been about 5 years since I opened a bottle of this. I've been holding it back to get a sense of the aging curves for later vintages, which I have a number of. Upon opening this wine was fairly expressive aromatically, it wasn't as much bottle boquet as one might hope for given the age, but welcome. The wine is still a youthful dark claret-color, and fairly sizeable on the palate. Most sips showed pinot typicity..an occassional one could pass for syrah. The wine changed litte over the 6 hours it was open. I get the sense this could have gone a LOT longer |

10/8/2022 - Motz wrote: 89 pointsAnother pleasantly rustic, shading to Côte de Beaune offering from this producer. All elements quite impressive, until the back, which reveals an astringent bite, typical of excessive pressing. According to the host, the winemaker uses minimal whole cluster fermentation, and perhaps none at all in the wines I tasted. I could not escape the conclusion that heavy pip and stem presence lies at the core of the issue. |

10/8/2022 - Motz wrote: 89 pointsShades of Burgundy, on the bouquet and palate. Pleasantly earthy and judiciously oaked. Edgy and biting at the back, however, a trend in all of the producer's Pinot Noir offerings. Seemingly, excessive pressing. |
