Very lean in terms of fruit but great structure. Better on the second night so put the rest aside for a while. Excellent potential and great QPR

Nice slurpy red with notes of cherry and red currant. Light-bodied, fleeting tannin, perfumed nose. Would be a good candidate for chilling. Pairs well with light pasta dishes and focaccia.

More floral than the '22, with a bit more lift to the aroma. Dark cherry and plum fruits. Full and textural, spicy and long. Terrific build. Developing nicely with plenty more in the tank.

Perfectly ripe blood plum fruit is complimented by some ironstone and licorice. It is a wine that is creamy and rich at its core, and savoury and detailed at the edges. It is silky, with beautiful acid balance and a very long finish carried by ample tannins.

I thought Gary Walsh of Winefront summed this wine up very well:

"Blueberry and blackberry, with a sort of thyme and lavender perfume. It's light to medium in body, crisp yet meaty, something of a cranberry crunch to it, fine peppery tannin, sappy acidity, a garrigue mouth-perfume, lacy and bright, pippy boysenberry/mulberry flavours and a crisp and spicy finish of good length. Plenty of energy..."

Apparently, the vineyard is adjacent to the Te Mata Estate Bullnose vineyard. Like that wine, as a young thing it can be a little shy and if I had a criticism, at this time, it would be that the wine lacks a little presence. However, it is a very good take on the Northern Rhone style epitomized by Rostaing, for example, and I think it infinitely better drinking than the Rostaing Ampodium.

Very enjoyable and comfortably in the 'Excellent' category. Under cork and as this a heavily whole bunch fermented wine, I would be cautious about cellaring beyond 5 years without sampling further.

This 2021 is a beautiful wine. So understated, yet so engaging. Great purity of raspberry and cherry fruit and suck wonderful floral spice. Silky in the mouth, layered with flavour and underpinned by gravelly tannins. It builds through the palate and then fans out and drives on and on. World class!

After one of those incredibly rare mornings in courtus interuptus, where everything seems to go right, I decided to take the afternoon off. I wandered into a local bottle shop and as I stared myopically at the produce and thought 'not much to see here' the owner came in, very excited with a 6 pack of wine and invited me into the office.

'This' he said, staring at me like John the Baptist about to dunk a vacillating spirit into the water, 'is very hard to get. It might change your mind about Grenache.'

I am always one to engage with another's enthusiasm, although there is about as much chance of changing my mind on Grenache as there is of me giving up my ferocious programme of self-abuse and alcoholism. When you are onto a good thing, you stick with it (if one will pardon the pun).

With only 2,800 bottles made, I can see why the Grenache fanatic felt excited to get some. This comes from a part of SA that is really establishing itself as Grenache new Jerusalem in Oz. Lots of makers trying different things and inspiring each other and pushing to new levels. Even as a sceptic of the variety, you can sense the excitement when something is really moving. Blewitt Springs also seems to make for good Grenache tannins - fine and ripe.

From the moment the cork comes out (why? Why do they do this?), this is very good stuff. It is inviting - plush but with structure and it combines some lovely Grenache aromatics with more serious, earthy notes. Lots of layers. Great tannins. Gary Walsh asks if this is the best Grenache in Oz and scores it at 97. I don't know what the criteria is for 'best' but it is clearly a very superior example of the variety and even for me it is really good wine.

I have scored this as Excellent, but if you love the variety, I think you could easily justify scoring it as 'Outstanding'. I mark it down from this rank because I find there is some sour acidity that speaks of a cold, wet vintage that came good in the end and I also detect just a touch of weed lurking in the finery. I really do believe that vintage will out. These aspects may really not trouble you and that would, probably, be the difference between ratings.

It turned out my day managed to get even better after court and yours might too, if you can find a bottle of this.

I remain a doubting Thomas, but I can't fault the Baptist for his efforts.

A monster tasting at Laszlo's: Blind. Blackberry, bright violets and plum on the nose. Palate is sweet and densely flavoured, while maintaining a fresh edge to it. Full length and feels like it has strong potential to develop well.

First of three, would say it is just entering the window with years left in the tank
Sublime length, fine structural tannin keeping everything tidy, dare I say it but quite Neb like
Sensational, cant wait to see where this goes, next one in 3 years or so

DIAM. Highly aromatic. A bowl of red liquorice and pastilles. Palate is new season red cherries, raspberry and black tea. Acid is medium+. Slightly drying fine-grained tannins on the tongue. Alcohol levels feel slightly elevated, 14.3% on the bottle. Much brighter with more definition than the 2020. There’s a lot of savoury red fruited purity, nothing woody or heavy about it. I always go for these McLaren vale Grenaches chilled out of a pinot glass, where possible. This follows closely on the heels of the magnificent 2019 and 2016.

In the decanter an hour prior to drinking, drank over the next 3 hours. Pretty wine, purple flower and fruit driven, which faded slightly with time open. Think i enjoyed this more with the initial brightness and freshness, so will drink my remaining soon. Nice wine.

It’s been a couple of years and this wine hasn’t changed
Made in small barrels , foot crushed ! Then one year old Slovanian oak foudre, where fermentation both primary and MLF took place. Elevage continued in foudre and a couple of old barriques, for almost a year prior to being bottled without fining or filtration

Lots going on here
Colour deep lemon crystal clear 15/15
Nose citrus lemon, lime and grapefruit ,lemon zest , Green apples and apple cider ginger spice leesy 28/30
Palate med bodied spritz on the tongue lovely textural mouthfeel , plenty of acidity, long dry finish 42/44
Overall I had this with a bowl of chunky beef soup and it went brilliantly, after the food was finished the acidity come out ,so best with food enjoyed this 10/11

Sits so beautifully in the glass, glistening like a jewel. The nose draws you in immediately, with is pretty red fruits and violets. The palate plays in that perfect space between sweet and savoury. It is so fine and lacy but possesses great depth and latent power. Structural elements are buried yet supportive, with tannins simply occupying a space. The finish drives on and on. Elegance personified and one of the great Australian Grenache wines.

Loved this wine. Medium red colour and slightly cloudy. Just delicious red fruits - red berries, cherries, whole bunch influence (I’m guessing), hints of spice. Medium bodied with bright acidity and medium plus length. Just the enjoyment factor and slurpability are so high.

Perfectly ripe briary red fruits. There's some ironstone lurking. It has mid-palate flesh, but is contained. There's an earthy/savoury edge to the wine, gravelly tannins and perfect balance. It is a fresh and joyous wine to drink, with moderate chew to the long finish.

This has a delicious core of red fruits. There are savoury elements too, with some earth and gravel. With air, the delightful scent of violets come to the fore. It is silky but has real build. There's freshness from perfectly ripe tannins and it has remarkable balance and poise. A great Grenache and great dry red wine.
